Q: I’m looking to put in a new
dock at my cottage, what kind
would you recommend?
A: ““It depends on the shoreline, size of the lake, and
other factors,” says Jeff Ball, owner of Kawartha Docks.
“We will provide a no-obligation site visit to inspect your
property and make a recommendation as to what type
of dock would be best for you.”
Kawartha Docks has a range of docks for their customers,
including custom-made wood floating docks. The
company is the exclusive dealer in the region for the
On the Water Designs docking systems, offering custom
built aluminum pole and tower docks. Other products
include boat lifts, PWC lifts, marine railways, and more.
Q: What safety and security features should
I keep in mind while selecting a new
overhead garage door?
A: “New garage door openers and doors have many more safety
features than in the past,” says Ron Beausoleil, owner of the Overhead
Door Company of Peterborough. “They are much more sensitive and
have a reverse system should they come in contact with an object, pet
or small child while going up or down.”
New electronic units come equipped with photo-eye sensors that
have a reversing mechanism, a feature that has been mandatory since
1996. And new doors are “pinch proof” which means that your fingers
won’t get jammed between the door panels if you’re lifting or closing
it manually.
In terms of security, Beausoleil says new electric operators have a
remote system with a rolling code which can’t be duplicated, and
that new garage doors are constructed of heavy duty materials that
deter burglars. Even if the doors have small windows, he says that
it’s uncommon for a break-in to take place through a garage door
window. If you’re concerned about security, you can always have
frosted or tinted windows installed.
In business for 38 years, the Overhead Door Company of Peterborough
supplies, services and installs a full range of prefinished insulated
steel sectional doors, electric operators and custom wood doors for
the regions of the Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, Clarington,
Haliburton, Hastings, Durham and Peterborough County.
“All of our docks are manufactured using the highest
quality materials,” says Ball. “Our frames are made of
marine-grade aluminum and are single piece welded
construction. The primary decking material is Western
Red Cedar. With innovative designs and light-weight
construction, we make the seasonal transitions smooth
and manageable.”
Kawartha docks are constructed locally in North
Kawartha and have a new store front location on
Highway 28 in Woodview, ON.
