details such as soft-close doors and drawers, fullextension
wood dovetail drawers, and solid backs in
every cabinet. Cabico has a stringent environmental
policy and all of their products are CARB2 compliant
as they also ship to California. The upper cabinets are
push open for ease of use, with handles just on the
lower ones.
To complement the cabinets, the couple selected a
white quartz with grey veins for the countertops,
and grey wall tile for the backsplash. Where there is
exposed wall, they chose a flannel grey colour. Maple
hardwood flooring, which adds warmth to the area,
extends throughout the kitchen into the main floor
with a finish that Art says is virtually invisible and
looks like sanded wood and is good to last between
15 to 20 years. Alex from Meistercraft Wood Flooring
repaired and re-finished the floors.
“Steve did a beautiful job,” continues Art. “All of the
tradespeople he brought in were expert craftsmen
and totally skilled at their jobs.”
In the previous kitchen, the microwave was too high
and hard to reach, as the couple are both “height
challenged”, so the new placement suits them better,
mounted below the cabinets. It’s finished in a burnished
stainless steel, as are the new fridge and stove.
“Steve and Tammy put a lot of thought into designing
this beautiful, unique kitchen, which we absolutely
love. They were so good to work with,” says Art.
“It turned out to be spectacular - it’s so much more
efficient now, with lots of storage space.”
