Scouts provided the boys with some great times and I enjoyed my time helping out. Once
we up the Goulburn River with them. We helped them build canoes out of fibreglass. We
got sticky stuff all over us. But they built them, then off we went. They canoed themselves
down from Alexandra way down to Seymour. We had to camp overnight on the bank of
the river. They had their gear in plastic bags and they took plastic rubbish bins and all that.
They had to have a buddy, because they were two-man canoes and Rol and Tim always
worked together. It was good and they enjoyed it all. I’m sure they still have good
memories of it. As well as all the friends they made. It’s a great thing the Scouts.

The Guide group had come into existence. They had
been meeting in somebody’s house in West Croydon.
Then it must have got too much for them so we
decided they could use our garage. I had facilities and
everything there. They used that and then when the
main scout building was finished, they were
incorporated into that. Lynne and Julie were Guides, but not for very long. I think it was
too slow for them!
