Good afternoon everyone, welcome to the Martin & Conley stadium.
Today is Buildbase FA Trophy day. After seeing off Isthmian South Central league side Uxbridge
in the last round we play another South Central League side, Tooting & Mitcham United, in this,
the first qualifying round. Welcome to their Players, Officials and Supporters. A welcome also to
the match officials.
Tooting & Mitcham United are very much a form side in the Isthmian South Central League. They
remain unbeaten in their league having won six and drawn two of their seven league fixtures this
season. Tooting & Mitcham did well in the Emirates FA Cup beating three teams, Faversham
Town (1-0), AFC Vardeanians of the Southern Counties Combination League Division One (3-1)
and Dorking Wanderers (1-0). They were beaten by Poole Town in the third qualifying round (0-
2). Tooting & Mitcham were drawn at home in all their FA Cup matches. In the Buildbase FA Trophy
preliminary round our visitors won at Whyteleafe 3-1. So far this season Tooting & Mitcham
United have only lost two competitive matches all season – the FA Cup match against Poole
Town and a Surrey Senior Cup match at home to Frimley Green. Tooting & Mitcham played a
completely changed team in the match against Frimley Green to their normal league side. So,
you can see we will have to play at our best to get a positive result today.
On Saturday we had probably
our best result of the
season. Our opponents,
Hythe Town, have completely
changed their team since
they changed managers. Ex
Margate manager, Steve
Watts, is now in charge at
Hythe with our ex Assistant,
Nathan Elder now the assistant
manager at Hythe. They
have signed some very experienced
players, some at
National League level. To
beat Hythe and keep a clean
sheet was a great result. It
just goes to show that experience doesn’t always bring success. This was followed by an impressive
performance against Phoenix Sports on Tuesday in the Velocity Trophy when 2 Sid Sollis
goals, plus goals from Kane Phillip gave us an emphatic 4-2 victory.
The winner of today’s match will receive £2450 and the losers, £800. If there is a draw today the
replay will be at Tooting & Mitcham United’s Campus Society Stadium (Imperial field – Morden,
SM4 6BF) on Tuesday 29 th October (19:45).
