The programme this week has all the regulars plus the three series of articles that we have
been running which are Paul Martin’s special games, the history of programmes and Grant Wilbur’s
scrapbook—this week he looks back to this month in 1995 when John Ryan’s side played
Worcester City and Burton Albion in the Beazer Homes Premier Division. The side featured
such names as Efrem Ebbli, Lee McRobert and many more that a lot of you will remember.
How life ebbs and flows, Worcester City are now in the Midlands Football league, a step below
us in the pyramid, whilst Burton Albion of course are in the EFL league one.
I don’t remember going to either ground however the Sittingbourne FC website under the archive
section, includes my reporting on two games v Worcester City, the first on 15th December
1997 and the second on 14th March 1998, both at Central Park. We lost the first 0-1 and
drew the second 0-0 when we were both in danger of relegation. Lots of Archive games going
back to 1996 are on the website archive although with many changes of web hosts some links
no longer work and those reports appear to be lost...although I am looking for them.
I’ll be on holiday when you read this (shocking I know) and as I went last Sunday I didn't see the
Ramsgate game either. Certainly plenty of disappointment at Ramsgate that under Nick Davis
they struggled, even though (if the stories are true) their budget is high for this step of non
league football. The problem is of course that more often than not high budgets can’t be sustained
and there are other clubs, namely Billericay Town, who must be at risk after the money
men leave. At least we have no money Men (or Women) so that shouldn’t happen to us.

There are some interesting developments going on behind the scenes that could be promising
,however those of us who have been around the club for a long time know that you can’t
count your chickens before they hatch.
Finally I do urge you to come along to our Q & A with our Men’s first team manager Chris
Lynch together with a race night. Proceeds will go the club and one of our youth players, Charlie
Taylor, who is fighting a recurrence of Leukemia.
