This week in 1995 Sittingbourne had to
make two long journeys, the first to
Worcester City and the second to Burton
Albion hoping to get at least a point in
each of the Beazer Homes Premier
Division fixtures.
At Worcester City Sittingbourne manager
John Ryan tried a 4-5-1 formation against
a team sitting in second place.
Unfortunately
Sittingbourne were
two goals down
within thirteen minutes
thanks to
strikes by striker
Whitehurst and
midfield dynamo
S m i t h .
Sittingbourne with
just Lee McRobert up front never really
looked like scoring.
In the 59th minute Whitehurst scored
again with a near post header then nine
minutes later midfielder Cottrill fired a
shot past Ebbli from the edge of the
penalty area. Sittingbourne did improve
following the introduction of substitutes
Buglione and Ullathorne but were unable
to score.
All things considered the match against
Burton Albion was a very disappointing
affair for the Brickies who slumped to
their seventh defeat in ten games and it
was also their third successive game
without a goal.
Sittingbourne deserved at least a point
but their inability to score goals coupled
with their ability to concede them meant
they got nothing from the game. The 7th
minute goal from Hadley who scored
after a corner ball was touched on and he
raced in scored from close range.
Sittingbourne created
numerous
chances and the 4-
4-2 formation
seemed to work
better for them however,
strikers Lee
McRobert and Lee
Thompson just
couldn’t get the ball
in the net. Substitute Martin Buglione
replaced Thompson and looked likely to
score at times however failed to do so.
