CONTRIBUTOR GUIDELINES<br />

Tables. Tables should be typed and <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> a separate<br />

file relative to <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> body of <strong>the</strong> article. The position of<br />

each table should be clearly labeled <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> body text of <strong>the</strong><br />

article with correspond<strong>in</strong>g labels be<strong>in</strong>g clearly shown <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> separate file. As a general rule, statistical tables should<br />

be prepared <strong>in</strong> a format <strong>in</strong> which numbers can be clearly<br />

legible and do not have a congested appearance.<br />

Artwork. As an electronic publication with practical appeal<br />

to both academics and practitioners, <strong>the</strong> CBR attempts to<br />

make optimal use of photos, graphics and artwork to illustrate<br />

key concepts and ideas. Authors are encouraged<br />

to prepare <strong>the</strong>se illustrations and submit <strong>the</strong>m along with<br />

a f<strong>in</strong>al version of <strong>the</strong> draft after its acceptance. All artwork<br />

should be prepared preferably <strong>in</strong> color and be able to<br />

provide visually attractive illustration of important ideas<br />

and concepts. Alternatively <strong>the</strong> editorial staff will work<br />

with <strong>the</strong> authors to prepare <strong>the</strong>se illustrations. The CBR<br />

reserves <strong>the</strong> right to make f<strong>in</strong>al edit<strong>in</strong>g of all artworks<br />

before <strong>the</strong>ir publication.<br />

Fit. The article should be written for CBR with a view to<br />

its particular standards and purpose. Unrevised lectures,<br />

sermons, addresses and <strong>the</strong> like are not acceptable.<br />

Currency. S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> CBR is a journal, its articles should<br />

address matters of current importance. When <strong>the</strong> subject<br />

matter is one of <strong>the</strong> “perennial questions,” <strong>the</strong> author<br />

should do more than repeat what has been said already <strong>in</strong><br />

places that are readily accessible to o<strong>the</strong>r scholars.<br />

Biblical Perspective. The author may assume that his or her<br />

readers are generally familiar with, and sympa<strong>the</strong>tic to,<br />

<strong>the</strong> biblical worldview. The guid<strong>in</strong>g pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of <strong>the</strong> CBR<br />

are steeped <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> evangelical and Protestant doctr<strong>in</strong>es;<br />

its editorial policy, however, is ecumenical.<br />

d. Except as listed below, avoid all typographic embellishments,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g bold, italics, underl<strong>in</strong>e, center<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

type ornaments (d<strong>in</strong>gbats), and words typed <strong>in</strong><br />

all capitals.<br />

e. Type one space after periods, colons, and semicolons.<br />

f. Endnotes ra<strong>the</strong>r than paren<strong>the</strong>tical citations should<br />

be used; refer to <strong>the</strong> Chicago Manual for formatt<strong>in</strong>g<br />

guidel<strong>in</strong>es. Use superscript for <strong>the</strong> endnote<br />

numbers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> text and for <strong>the</strong> endnote numbers<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves. In <strong>the</strong> text, no space should precede<br />

<strong>the</strong> endnote number. In <strong>the</strong> endnotes, no period or<br />

space should follow <strong>the</strong> endnote number.<br />

g. Book, journal, magaz<strong>in</strong>e, or film titles should be italicized<br />

ra<strong>the</strong>r than underl<strong>in</strong>ed.<br />

h. Left justify all text; do not full justify. Beg<strong>in</strong> new<br />

paragraphs by typ<strong>in</strong>g a hard return and <strong>in</strong>dent each<br />

paragraph .5 <strong>in</strong>ch us<strong>in</strong>g a tab; do not use <strong>the</strong> space<br />

bar to <strong>in</strong>dent. Do not <strong>in</strong>sert extra space between<br />

paragraphs. Extracts should be <strong>in</strong>dented from <strong>the</strong><br />

left marg<strong>in</strong> .5 <strong>in</strong>ch us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dent command <strong>in</strong><br />

your word process<strong>in</strong>g program.<br />

i. If <strong>the</strong> manuscript is divided <strong>in</strong>to parts, type each<br />

head<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> bold. If your manuscript is divided <strong>in</strong>to<br />

subparts, type each subhead<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> italics. Do not<br />

number head<strong>in</strong>gs or subhead<strong>in</strong>gs. Type all head<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

and subhead<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> upper and lower case; avoid all<br />

capitals, underl<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, or o<strong>the</strong>r embellishments.<br />

j. Consult <strong>the</strong> Chicago Manual for proper capitalization<br />

(for example, Bible and Scripture are capitalized,<br />

but biblical and scriptural are not).<br />

Specific Formats<br />

a. Submit f<strong>in</strong>al manuscript <strong>in</strong> electronic format us<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Word or WordPerfect.<br />

b. Ensure <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al manuscript follows The Chicago Manual<br />

of Style and <strong>the</strong> Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary<br />

for spell<strong>in</strong>g and hyphenation. Follow American<br />

ra<strong>the</strong>r than British rules for spell<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

c. All text (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g extracts with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> text, footnotes,<br />

etc.) must be double-spaced and <strong>in</strong> 12 po<strong>in</strong>t Times<br />

Roman font.<br />
