National Adoption Week 2019 –
14th to 20th October 2019
As ever the campaign will aim to
find homes for those children who
so desperately need them.
Come along to one of our adoption
information events held across the
region if you want to find out more
about adoption. The East Midlands
currently has 68 children waiting to
be adopted and just 25 approved
adoptive families.
This means the need to find
adoptive parents is greater than
ever. Could you adopt? Why not
contact your local adoption agency
and find out more?

“After 10 years of campaigning by the
British Red Cross, it will be compulsory
for first aid skills to be taught in all
state schools in England from 2020.
It’s an impactful way to give young
people the confidence they need to
help someone.
As parents, Ben and I are so thrilled
our children will be able to learn these
important skills so that they never feel
completely helpless in an emergency
situation.
It’s also a relief knowing that if
anything were to happen to them in
the future, more people might be able
to help.
We support the British Red Cross’s
calls for it to become a compulsory
part of the curriculum throughout the
UK so all school children get the same
chance to learn how to save a life.”

The East Riding Children’s Festival
of Words 2019
Takes place between 14-27 October
and incorporates a variety of events,
including The Gruffalo Grand Tour with
Into Film Festival
6th – 22nd November
UK schools are once again being
offered the opportunity to attend
free cinema trips and access free
resources through the Into Film
Festival; the world’s largest free film
festival, and its many elements that
can be used across the curriculum.
With 3000 screenings and 200
special events, this year’s eclectic
programme offers something
for 5 to 19-year-olds from all
backgrounds and corners of the
UK. There will be numerous special
events targeted towards Primary
students including 40 simultaneous
pupil premieres of climate change
Join in this autumn to take part in
the new activity glow trails featuring
Shaun the Sheep to celebrate his
new film ‘A Shaun the Sheep Movie:
Farmageddon’. An alien space ship
has crashed into Forestry England’s
Mossingham Forest and Shaun is on
a mission to help the inhabitant – a
lovable alien called Lu-La. Forestry
England is launching an out-of-thisworld
app and you’ll have the chance
to explore exciting new trails across
the country.
To solve the puzzles they find on the
trail with the free Shaun the Sheep
with interactive puppet storytelling,
drama workshops for both primary and
secondary aged children, and many
other popular author events.
On 19 October at the Parkway Cinema
in Beverley, award winning children’s
author Gareth P Jones will sing, play
and rap songs at his ‘Ninja Alien Pirate
Party’
The festival culminates on Sunday, 27
October at the Parkway Cinema, with
highly acclaimed stand-up children’s
comedian and author of the ‘Boyface’
series.
