Autumn adventures for the whole family with the National Trust With autumn trails and outdoor escapades, ghoul hunting and creepy crafts we’ve got big adventures for little monsters this half term. Here’s what’s going on: Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Ripon There’s a new tower to climb in the play area! Explore a miniature How Hill Tower, as well as the wooden abbey, swings and zipline. Wrap up for an after dark adventure at Fountains by Floodlight and pop by Swanley Grange to have a go at some woolly heritage crafts. You can also make a bright and colourful autumn leaf crown to wear home. Beningbrough Hall, Gallery & Gardens, York On 27 and 31 October make a leafy bird’s nest from natural materials with artrageous craft sessions in the Hayloft. Book onto a Bushcraft day on 29 October or follow Apple Pip on his adventures as Eden from Stories Alive! takes you on a story promenade through the gardens on Wednesday. You can go on a tree walk with the garden team on 31 October and 1 November. Brimham Rocks, near Harrogate Calling all witches and wizards – take a trip to Brimham Rocks to make your very own broom in time for Halloween. Book onto a session from 29-31 October and make a traditional broom from birch gathered from the moorland. Small charge per child, booking essential, tel: 0344 249 1895. Nunnington Hall, Helmsley Wander the historic rooms all decorated with a Halloween theme, past witches and skeletons and all things that go bump in the night. Pick up your potion poem from the reception desk and take part in creepy crafts in the children’s room. Visit on weekends to join a family friendly ghost tour. Ormesby Hall, Middlesbrough Wisteria the Witch and her friends have arrived at Ormesby Hall for Halloween and dropped some of their belongings along the way. Can you help reunite them with their broomstick-riding owners? Head to the kitchen to help Wisteria brew some potions, make your own pet spider and settle down for spooky story time. Treasurer’s House, York From 26 – 31 October wander up and down the stairs to spot the spooks and find out more about the ghostly sightings at Treasurer’s House. Dip into the trick or treat cauldron before you leave for a surprise. Normal admission applies to all places, some events need booking in advance or may carry a small charge.
