Welcome to REBBL
Eight years ago, REBBL began with a simple belief: that the full value of the nourishing,
healing power of the world’s most storied plants and herbs was yet to be fully recognized.
When this idea was shared with Not For Sale’s founders, a unique for-profit business was
born -- with a purpose to nourish, uplift, and delight the world, while serving the NFS
mission to end human trafficking. How do we reinvent the traditional charity model? How
do we evolve business from one that earn profits at any cost, only to pay token penance
after the damage is done, to one that is designed from the ground up to have the forces of
positive change embedded from the beginning? These were the questions running through
our heads at the birth of REBBL.
REBBL has become more than any of us could have imagined -- after sourcing our first
super herb ingredients in a Peruvian community back in 2011, we evolved into a supply
chain 29 countries deep with 69 organic ingredients. But, that growth has brought its own
set of challenges. Plastic packaging, for instance, is a pain point we have been actively
working to solve for years, and we are proud to be taking the first big step toward a solution
by converting to 100% post-consumer recycled PET bottles in 2020.
While this inaugural Impact Report celebrates the strides made in 2018, it goes without
saying that the everyday challenges we face while running this business are just as
important to acknowledge. Our intent is to be open and transparent about the possibilities
(and frustrations) that exist once you make the decision to step into the unknown and
commit to your purpose with bold humility.
A Cause Looking for a Company
In 2011, Not For Sale (NFS) brought together global thought leaders at the Montara
Circle to create an innovative solution to uplift the Madre de Dios region of the
Peruvian Amazon, a community vulnerable to trafficking. The collective brainstorming of
this eclectic group of scientists, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and even a professional athlete led
to the bold idea of sourcing super herbs to create a functional -- and equally indulgent -- beverage. In turn,
the drink would help strengthen developing local economies. Dignified work opportunities would then
lessen the risk for human trafficking and exploitation.
Enter Palo Hawken, a genius mixologist with a love of herbalism, brought on to celebrate and honor the
ancient wisdom of plants. Roots, Extracts, Berries, Bark, and Leaves (REBBL) was birthed into the world in
January 2013. Since its inception, REBBL has supported the innovative work of NFS as they fight human
trafficking around the world -- and now REBBL has contributed over $1 million to date.
The Mighty Brazil Nut for a Better Future
REBBL’s Banana Nut Protein elixir is one example of how we are modeling a new way of sourcing ingredients with a
regenerative approach to supply chain management. In working with Not for Sale to procure organic and Fair Trade
certification for a co-op of Brazil nut harvesters, we’ve helped support these communities while also preserving the
Amazon rainforest. Our short film, REBBL With A Cause, traces the global supply chain of this important ingredient to
exemplify the life-changing impact it can have at the individual, community, and global level. It also demonstrates the
breadth of possibility in front of us.
In 2018, REBBL purchased
4,520 lbs.
of Brazil nuts for our Banana Nut Protein elixir,
which launched in mid-2018. In 2019, REBBL plans on
purchasing 1.5x the volume of this ingredient.
“REBBL’s business practices represent a shift from valuing only
shareholders to valuing all stakeholders in the system. Each
ingredient and each community has its own unique story.
Together, these ingredients, these stories, create REBBL. ”
— RUBY ROSE, INVESTOR, ACTOR, ACTIVIST, & REBBL COLLECTIVE MEMBER
In 2018, REBBL:
• Supported the growth and development of AFIMAD, the Brazil nut producers’
cooperative, through our partnership with NFS.
• Visited AFIMAD’s growing communities and the Candor/Caro shelling facility in
Peru, along with their processing plant in Fresno, California.
• Developed partnerships in the U.S. to grind AFIMAD’s Brazil nuts into a paste that
can be used in our Banana Nut Protein elixir.
• Developed and launched a product specifically to use this supply chain; Banana Nut
Protein elixir is now distributed nationally!
10
• Produced a short film, REBBL With A Cause, highlighting the company’s founding
and our Brazil nut sourcing story.

Impact Through Sourcing
The secret ingredient in every bottle of your favorite
Turmeric Golden-Milk or Dark Chocolate Protein? Impact.
A core part of our mission is creating positive social and environmental impact through our super herb elixirs.
Essentially, we see our purchasing power as an opportunity to make a difference. We seek out suppliers who
exemplify our values. They invest in the well-being of the communities and the environment where they
operate, and they maintain strong relationships with their growers.
While many of our partnerships are with the manufacturers of the ingredients we use, we also build direct
relationships with their growers and gain visibility to the soil level of our supply chains when possible. Our
Banana Nut Protein elixir and the Brazil nut project is one example where we created a supply chain with full
transparency and traceability to the harvester communities in Peru.
Globalization can often hide the exploitation within a supply chain, and that’s why impact sourcing must be
taken so seriously. We seek to understand the path each of our ingredients travels from soil to bottle, and it
begins by building relationships. It also requires a willingness to ask difficult questions and to select supply
partners who are honest and transparent. We study the challenges facing each supplier and ingredient.
There is a lot of listening and learning as everything is laid bare. Only then can we start to understand how
we can best offer support and ultimately have a positive influence.
“If we are going to survive on this planet in the long term,
companies need to change from “business as usual” to
Why Fair Trade?
The Fair Trade Certified seal on our Ashwagandha Spicy Chai and
Cold-Brew elixirs means the coffee and tea used were produced
according to rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards
to prevent the exploitation of people and the environment.
Fair Trade Certified goods are verified -- for safer work conditions,
environmental protections, sustainable livelihoods, and more generous
income to empower and uplift communities.
By the end of 2018, REBBL paid over
$75,000
in social premiums to
Fair Trade USA® farmers
• We pay a Fair Trade premium for our organic, Fair Trade Certified
Assam tea for Ashwagandha Spicy Chai elixir. In 2018,
that accounted for an extra $49,015 for growers.
• In 2018, we used over 129,000 pounds of Fair Trade Certified
green coffee grown by a handful of small organic cooperatives
in Peru for our Cold-Brew elixirs, and paid an additional
$25,800 in premiums to farmers.
By paying fair prices for high-quality vanilla, our partner
helps family farmers adopt long-term visions for their
land in Madagascar.
Our ashwagandha supplier in northern India offers job
opportunities to women, to uplift local communities and
empower families.
Ingredient Profiles
Every ingredient tells a story of the community where it was sourced and the people who grew it.
Here is a snapshot of a few hero ingredients in REBBL’s super herb elixirs and proteins.
COCONUT-MILK | SRI LANKA
773,450 LBS. OF COCONUT CREAM (2018)
Conventional coconut plantations often contribute to deforestation, habitat loss, and
inequitable farmer/supplier relationships. That is why we work with a partner who
sources organic coconuts and helps farmers earn a sustainable living wage. Our partner
works with over 1,000 family-owned farms.
How our partner helps:
• Encourages crop diversity for soil health and economic growth
• Distributes coconut seedlings (12,330 from 2015-2018) to encourage self-sufficiency
• Offers farmer trainings on composting, bee keeping, and land management
• Maintains demonstration farms and workshops for agronomic research
and farmer training
• Implements water supply and sanitation projects in the growing communities
• Grants educational scholarships for their employees’ children
• Creates markets for the manufacturing waste stream. For instance, they develop
activated charcoal and rich compost from discarded coconut shells.
The impact of your purchase affects everyone involved in the supply chain,
starting with the farmers, their families, and their communities. With each
transaction, there’s a connection -- that’s what makes REBBL special.”
— LIBRADO GUERRERO, REBBL SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF SUPPLY CHAIN

VANILLA | MADAGASCAR
49,767 LBS. OF EXTRACT (2018)
Vanilla is labor-intensive -- it must be hand-pollinated within 24 hours of flowering! -- and
is currently the second most expensive spice in the world, after saffron. In Madagascar,
80,000 growers farm small plots of under ¼ acre. Deforestation, habitat loss, erosion, and
climate events are major risks to vanilla farmers. Plus, high-quality vanilla beans require
9-10 months on the vine to fully ripen. If beans are harvested (or stolen from the vine) too
early, the quality of vanilla extract will be greatly impacted.
How our partner helps:
• Organizes 3 communities into grower cooperatives (currently encompassing 600
farmers in the Sava Region of Madagascar)
• Provides these communities technical assistance, crop diversification training, food
safety and quality assurance training, and financial support
• Sets up payment systems and helps farmers secure bank accounts to combat theft
and loss of income
• Pays fair prices for high-quality beans, and offer premiums for superior quality,
allowing farmers to adopt long-term visions for their land
• Installed clean freshwater wells in the villages where they source vanilla
• Provided disaster relief after a catastrophic cyclone devastated the vanilla-growing
region in 2017
• Invested in a traditional curing facility, a key step in producing high-quality vanilla
beans and a way to create more good jobs in the region
TURMERIC | INDIA
17,750 LBS. OF RAW POWDER (2018)
India exports 80% of the world’s turmeric, a spice REBBL has used for many years that is rapidly growing in popularity. Our
partner works with over 1,800 organic growers across three states in India. Turmeric is grown by propagating existing rhizomes,
a type of underground stem that sprouts shoots and roots, and many of our growers use varietals known as “ancient roots” that
have been handed down for generations. Our partner helps growers select the varietals known to contain higher levels of
curcumin, the herb’s best-known active constituent. They are deeply committed to organic and regenerative farming, providing
farmers with extensive free training. Water scarcity, market volatility, and access to processing and grading equipment are
common challenges for turmeric growers.
How our partner helps:
• Secures fair prices for growers to safeguard their future earnings
• Provides technical assistance with drying, grading, and processing
the turmeric
• Employs a large field team to conduct farmer trainings focused on
agro-ecosystem management
• Assists with water and soil conservation methods, including natural irrigation
practices in mountainous areas
• Trains farmers in sustainable land management and quality assurance
• Works with 500 farmers to conduct free soil testing and soil improvement
programs including composting, mulching, and intercropping 617

The Climate Connection
The interconnectedness between climate change and human trafficking is very real, and we know that neither issue
can be healed without addressing the other. To illustrate this link, consider how much economic instability is
exacerbated by natural disasters, often creating desperate, unsafe conditions that leave communities vulnerable to
human trafficking. So, while REBBL began as a mechanism to fight human trafficking, working to draw down carbon
as we fight global warming is just as imperative to our mission. As always, we have to acknowledge the messiness of
taking on this work. Helping to heal the planet and protecting its people in a way that is economically sustainable is
complex work with no clear path, and requires patience, honesty, and full transparency.
Knowing this reality, we can’t ignore our own environmental impact. Today, our biggest challenges are plastic
packaging, emissions from shipping, and food waste. We know the solutions won’t come easy, but we’re still doing
our best to address these issues and explore our capacity to catalyze restoration.
In 2018, REBBL was honored with the Outstanding Value Chain Engagement
Award by the National Co-op Grocers and Climate Collaborative. This
competitive award was based on our work in impact sourcing, developing and
implementing our Supplier Ethos, driving transparency, and reducing supply
chain emissions, along with product launches geared at reversing deforestation.
We were very humbled to receive such an honorable recognition.
We’re a founding member and active leader of OSC2 (One Step Closer to an Organic Sustainable Community), a
collective of action-oriented, environmentally focused natural products brands. OSC2’s mission is to “address the
toughest sustainability problems facing our industry and our planet by modeling regenerative business models and
agricultural systems.”
In 2016, we sponsored the launch of the Climate Collaborative, an industry-wide initiative of OSC2 and the
Sustainable Food Trade Association. By raising awareness, engaging companies and consumers, and committing to
action in key areas, the Climate Collaborative provides a platform for progressive companies to take concrete steps
to address climate change in the absence of cohesive policies and national leadership. REBBL has made Climate
Commitments in the following areas:
Embracing Regenerative Agriculture
Nature’s vitality is paramount to our success and to humanity’s. REBBL has always been USDA Certified
Organic, but we can do so much more.
Organic farming works in harmony with nature -- without synthetic fertilizers, GMOs, or pesticides. Regenerative
agriculture is a holistic approach that builds on those organic practices through soil and land management, as well
as fairness for farmers and workers. Regenerative practices can not only reverse, but help heal the damage of
climate change by restoring soil health and drawing down carbon from the atmosphere.
We work closely with suppliers and incentivize them to shift toward regenerative practices, using a Code of
Conduct Compliance System to monitor current practices and drive continuous improvements.
“Food is the core foundation of society. That's why the food industry
needs to be taking steps to address climate change. How we grow
food and tend soil directly affects the health of our planet. We only have
one earth, let's take care of it.”
Our Biggest Environmental Concerns
PACKAGING
THE CHALLENGES...
REBBL exists in an industry that is heavily dependent on packaging, although we realize the issues with virgin plastic. As
we aim to model a regenerative business, our goal is to reverse the cycle of waste by:
• Eliminating plastics that cannot be recycled.
• Preventing packaging from going to landfills.
• Developing compostable or innovative closed-loop packaging solutions.
Since plastic is currently our only bottling option, we are taking other measures to ensure our packaging is more
sustainable. Due to food-safety laws, glass bottling of low-acid foods, such as our drinks, must be subjected to excessive
heat for prolonged periods. This process would damage our delicate herbal ingredients, so it is not an option for us. This
includes redesigning our bottles, continuing to explore non-plastic alternatives, and more comprehensive packaging and
distribution improvements.
STEPS WE’RE TAKING:
No more virgin plastic: For more than 18 months, REBBL worked with environmental packaging and design experts
through the Climate Collaborative to develop viable alternatives to virgin plastic resins. The exploration hasn’t come
without its challenges, but in early 2020, REBBL super herb elixirs will be bottled in 100% post-consumer recycled
plastic (rPET).
Locally made bottles: In 2017, we had to reformulate our packaging to address some defects. During this transition,
we changed the source of our bottle “preforms” (the plastic tube that is heated to make a bottle) closer to home.
Now, our bottles are now made within 15 miles of our packaging plant rather than materials having to be shipped
from South Korea.
Lighter cardboard — and less of it: Every REBBL beverage is shipped in cases of six or 12 bottles. We recently
switched this secondary packaging to natural cardboard instead of bleached white. We no longer use custom inks
and shifted to a lighter cardboard to use less material overall. We are also considering non-plastic or recycled wraps
in place of cardboard.
This packaging life-cycle assessment is based on transitioning 20 million REBBL bottles to 100% rPET.
SHIPPING
THE CHALLENGES...
By 2050, global freight emissions are expected to surpass those from passenger vehicles, and given the perishable nature of
our super herb elixirs and proteins, shipping REBBL products across the U.S. is no easy feat. That said, we are ready to do
whatever is possible to prevent this prediction from becoming reality.
Our products must be shipped in refrigerated trucks in a timely manner. But prior to 2018, we had only one warehouse, which
was on the West Coast. Establishing a second warehouse east of the Mississippi was a big first step toward optimizing our
transportation operations and decreasing our footprint.
STEPS WE’RE TAKING:
Shorter distances: By adding the second warehouse, we reduced the average distance our shipments travel.
Full trucks arrive to Chicago (average distance: 2,000 miles), where our products are consolidated to get them to
market with a smaller footprint. We have gone from 50 to 90 loads per month with an average distance of over
2,000 miles to five to 10 loads per month with the same average distance.
Consolidated shipping: Since adding the new warehouse in mid 2018, 34% of our loads (representing 33% of
our total shipping weight and 44% of total miles traveled) are now consolidated before heading East.
SmartWay certification: As of 2019, 3.1% of our carriers are SmartWay certified. This free, voluntary certification
program measures and optimizes freight transportation efficiency. We see this as a huge opportunity for us, and it
goes without saying that we have a long road ahead of us.
Support from our partners: Our shipping and logistics partners know their industry is an invaluable ally in the
fight against trafficking. We’re working with them to support training and create a stronger connection to
Not For Sale.
FOOD WASTE
THE CHALLENGES...
We recognize that significant food spoilage and damage is inevitable in the manufacturing of our products -- 260,408 pounds
in 2018 -- but we’re conscious how much opportunity exists to eliminate waste as we reimagine and redesign beverage
delivery systems. Our food waste is the result of spoilage (a natural risk associated with using perishable ingredients) and
excess raw materials, which ultimately we’d like to be able to repurpose.
STEPS WE’RE TAKING:
Reducing waste where we can: Since we use a co-packer to manufacture our products, reducing waste is a
complex process, and we have to go to great lengths to make reductions. We’re making every effort to decrease
the amount of waste from our manufacturing, and we’re also doing what we can to reduce packaging used in raw
materials. For example, our vanilla is now shipped in reusable containers.
Supplier Ethos and Code of Conduct
With Not For Sale, we developed a Code of Conduct specific to our supply chain and shared goals. Our criteria go
beyond the minimums typically asked of suppliers, which allows us to track compliance and identify areas that may
need support. We address these with our suppliers, evolving their capacity to positively impact their communities.
The code is based on internationally recognized labor standards, including the U.N.’s International Labor Organization
core conventions and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Each supplier is given a score, creating a Supplier Ethos, which establishes a baseline. The score includes living
wages, access to education and health care, and rights protections, as well as regenerative agricultural practices.
This two-part process helps us identify risks and opportunities in our supply network. In addition, we rank our
ingredients based on factors such as volume purchased, longevity of our relationship, supplier transparency, and the
source country’s human rights ranking. Combined, this information enables us to focus our efforts (and optimize our
impact) with strategic partners and critical ingredients. This also guides our investments and supply network
initiatives.
We source Certified Organic turmeric and ginger from
southern India, where our partner works with local
growers, like Jayan (pictured), to provide economic
opportunity and access to resources like trainings and
organic farming education.
22
"The launch of our Supplier Ethos assessments in 2018 enabled us to have open
conversations with our vendors to identify opportunities to collaborate and
invest in women, children, and climate strategies around the world. Now, we
can jointly support community based organizations working on these challenges
with local leaders to ensure meaningful impact."
— DENNIS MACRAY, REBBL SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF IMPACT

REBBL Culture and Values
At our core, REBBL is a collective of humans working together toward a common mission. Nurturing our team members'
well-being -- as employees and as human beings -- is vital to our collective well-being as an organization. In addition to
traditional benefits, our generous offerings include company co-ownership for all employees, two volunteer days a year,
on-site yoga classes and massage, flexible work hours, paid leave for primary and secondary care givers who have birthed
or adopted babies, and a sabbatical after five years.
Our capacity for impact starts on the inside, and we recognize our role in affecting change and developing our team members
to be change agents. We are rooted in love and working to better serve our ever-diversifying population of current and future
REBBL drinkers -- as well as teammates -- helping drive change for a more sustainable future. In 2018, REBBL became the
first in our industry to donate in support of OSC2’s JEDI Collaborative (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion), which our
former CEO and Chief Love Officer, Sheryl O’Loughlin, co-founded and co-leads for the natural products industry.
REBBL envisions a regenerative ecosystem in which humanity, the Earth, and the
economy can each thrive. To contribute to and realize this vision, REBBL must
address the inequities that prevent a truly regenerative society. At the core of this
commitment is the belief that all people deserve to live a full, dignified life.
Specifically, at REBBL, we see our role in contributing to a more equitable and just
world not only by providing nourishment to all people but also by ensuring all our
processes address inequities.
JUSTICE: An outcome of equity and inclusion efforts in which resources are fairly distributed and barriers
to these resources are dismantled so all individuals and communities can live a full and dignified life.
EQUITY: An approach based on fairness to ensuring everyone has equal access to the same opportunities
and to dismantling barriers to these opportunities. Equity recognizes that advantages and barriers exist.
Equity is the approach and equality is the outcome.
DIVERSITY: The differences between us, based on advantages we experience or barriers to opportunities
we encounter. Diversity does not only exist along racial identities, but also includes gender identity, sexual
orientation, age, ability, class, education, and immigration status.
INCLUSION: Celebrating, amplifying, and centering those voices, perspectives, and identities
that have been marginalized to foster a sense of belonging and feeling valued. Inclusion is
not merely tolerating, accommodating, or transcending differences.
“Celebrating the diversity of our individual voices and honoring how they
unite in community is in our ethos. Our nascent ‘JEDI’ work is critical to
humanity and to business, helping us understand the complex connection
between the economy and social and environmental justice.”
Regenerative Business Development Community
In 2018, a group of five REBBL team members, including Palo and Sheryl, became “Regen Explorers” with business
leaders from nearly a dozen other like-minded brands. Under the leadership of Carol Sanford, an author and thought
leader in regenerative business, we took on the challenge to dive into this shift in how we think about our organization
and partners as part of one living system. Ultimately, this systems-thinking shift pushed us to consider new solutions
for challenges that keep us up at night -- like packaging.
In 2019, we’re poised to continue deeper work. We led a company-wide training inspired by Brené
Brown’s Dare to Lead, started four committees of diverse voices from across our collective, and
brought in a consultancy called the Avarna Group to help us make change -- not just talk about it.
Created from a model of invention, our work is inherently messy. This part of the journey helps us
dive deeper into the unknown to lead lasting change.
“I am on a mission to experience everything this world has to offer, and I want
everyone to have that same opportunity. Brands like REBBL help spread that
message, that everyone can show up as their true selves.”
Looking Ahead
In 2019, we are building upon our efforts outlined in this report. We are also looking ahead, and
setting goals for 2020. Without the support of our invaluable business partners and stakeholders,
and our inspiring customers who choose to drink REBBL, we recognize the change we wish to
create would not be possible.
In 2020, REBBL will…
• Use 100% rPET for all drinks in plastic bottles
• Provide direct financial support to Not For Sale to serve over 10,000
vulnerable individuals
• Continue to implement projects to reduce water, energy, and food-waste in
our product manufacturing
• Extend our Supplier Ethos ethical sourcing model to key suppliers and contract
third-party verification of performance among our most critical ingredients
• Continue serving REBBL consumers with innovative new products, including
Sparkling Prebiotic Tonics, Gold Label, and more
• Surprise and delight millions of customers with even more delicious, plant-based
beverages that are highly functional, empowering people to make the world a better
place as part of the REBBL family
We hope you continue finding ways to engage with
REBBL and join us in taking steps that make a
difference for people, communities, and our planet.
We are so grateful you’ve chosen to be part of
this movement.
“I am honored to lead REBBL and am excited to continue to grow and lead the company to the
next phase. What drew me to REBBL was not only the fact that it was a fast-growing company
with great-tasting, truly functional plant-based beverages, but also its higher purpose, to
co-create a future without human trafficking.”
