Véritables œuvres d’art, les objets fabriqués à
partir de résine de pin se situent, vu la fragilité de la
matière, à mi-chemin entre le cristal et le plastique.
Chaque création est unique, préparée de façon
minutieuse.
True works of art, objects created using pine
resin are, considering the fragile character
of the material, halfway between crystal and
plastic. Each work is unique and meticulously
handcrafted.
Comment ne pas craquer pour ces produits d’exception ?
Cette voiture à cheval est, par exemple, un mariage
parfait entre une charrette en bois de rose, des roues et
axes en laiton, un cavalier et des chevaux en résine. Et le tout
est démontable !
Méconnus à Madagascar, ces objets sont pourtant exportés en
France, en Suisse, aux `Etats-Unis et à Maurice.
Le passage de l’oléorésine des conifères pinus de son état
liquide à sa forme solide nécessite des étapes cruciales :
la matière première est d’abord décolorée et rendue ainsi
transparente ; vient ensuite le moulage (le prototype utilisé
pour chaque moule est fait de cire sculptée). Enfin, le polissage
et le vernissage constituent les dernières étapes de finition.
Peu connus à Madagascar, ces objets sont exportés en
France, en Suisse, aux Etats-Unis et à Maurice.
Telesphore Fy Avotra, un jeune artisan qui est le seul à
exploiter la résine, nous a accueilli dans son atelier à Itaosy.
C'est grâce à la transmission du savoir-faire familial qu'il exerce
aujourd'hui le métier de sculpteur de résine de pin – assurant
ainsi pour la troisième génération le prolongement de cet art.
« J'exerce cette activité depuis février 2018, même si cela fait 10
ans que j’assistais mon père. Je considère cette longue période
comme une formation.». Il ne lui faut pas moins d'une semaine
pour réaliser un article. La musique l’aide à entrer dans son
monde de création. Les amateurs de beaux-arts ont le choix :
transparents ou colorés à l'acrylique, figurine ou portrait en 3D
de taille réelle, avec ou sans socle.

ow to resist these skillfully-made objects? This
carriage, for example, is a perfect combination
between the vehicle, made of rosewood, the
wheels and their axels in brass and the driver and horses
in resin. The whole thing can be taken apart.
The transition from oil resin from pinus conifers
in its liquid state to its solid form necessitates several
essential stages: the raw material is first discoloured to
make it transparent; then comes the moulding stage
(the prototype used for each mould is made out of
sculpted wax). The final stages are the polishing and
varnishing.
Not at all well-known in Madagascar, these objects
are exported to France, Switzerland, the United States
and Mauritius.
Telesphore Fy Avotra, a young craftsman, the only
one to work with resin, welcomed us into his workshop
at Itaosy. Today, he works as a pine resin sculptor thanks
to the family know-how handed down to him and is the
third generation of artists to use this material. “It has
been my profession since February 2018, but I had already
been working with my father for 10 years. I consider that
as my training period.” It takes him one week to create
an object and he listens to music to inspire him while
working. Lovers of art have the choice: transparent or
coloured using acrylic paint, statuette or 3D full-size
portrait, with or without a stand.
