Why is Nosy-Be also called Nosy Magnitry, island of<br />
perfumes?<br />
When you drive in from the airport, you will inevitably<br />
see the plantations of ylang-ylang and smell the<br />
fragrance of its perfume, a fragrance that immediately<br />
makes you fall in love with the island and its pure air. The<br />
plantations have made Nosy-Be famous. The island is<br />
one of the world’s leading producers of ylang-ylang and<br />
its essential oil, used as a basis for high-quality brands of<br />
perfume, sold all over the world.<br />
Also, when you drive round the island, you will discover<br />
that there are a thousand other reasons for it being<br />
called the island of perfumes or ‘Nosy Magnitry’: we also<br />
produce coffee, vanilla, cinnamon and other spices.<br />

Où se trouvent les plus belles plages ?<br />
Les plus connues sont les plages d’Andilana, de Nosy<br />
Iranja, de Nosy Tanikely, de Sakatia et de Madirokely.<br />
Mais vous me demandez à moi, un natif de Nosy-<br />
Be ! Je n’ai pas de plages favorites, elles sont toutes<br />
magnifiques, mais chacune a sa spécificité. On veut voir<br />
du sable blanc et une eau claire ? Je conseillerais Nosy<br />
Iranja. On préfère une plage de coraux ? Je dirais Nosy<br />
Fanihy. On rêve d'une plage idéale pour du snorkeling ?<br />
Je proposerais Tanikely et Sakatia. On veut un peu plus<br />
d’aventure ? Je suggérerais de rester à Nosy-Be et d'en<br />
faire le tour.<br />
La meilleure plage dépend donc, vous l'aurez compris,<br />
de vos envies, besoins ou encore humeurs...<br />
Where are the best beaches?<br />
The best known are the beaches of Andilana, Nosy Iranja,<br />
Nosy Tanikely, Sakatia and Madirokely.<br />
But if you ask me, a native to Nosy-Be, I will say I don’t<br />
have a favourite beach: they all all stunningly beautiful,<br />
but each has its specific characteristics. If someone wants<br />
to see white sand and crystal clear waters, I will say Nosy<br />
Iranja. If they want a coral beach, I will say Nosy Fanihy.<br />
An ideal beach for snorkelling, I’ll suggest Tanikely or<br />
Sakatia. For the more adventurous, I’ll tell them to stay<br />
and take a trip all around Nosy-Be.<br />
The best beach depends on what you want, what you<br />
need and the mood you’re in, but all of Nosy-Be’s beaches<br />
are incredibly beautiful.<br />
