its 25th Year Anniversary this 

month and THE FIGHT, once again, is

Somehow, I 

often find 

myself

in the right place 

at the right time 

to enjoy both the 

challenge and the 

benefit of something 

bigger than

washes my way. 

This Palm Springs Leather Pride marks 

the 25th anniversary of the founding of Mr. 

Palm Springs Leather and Leather Pride, a 

monumental feat of which I had little to do 

with when I think of the 1000s of volunteers 

and attendees who over the years made this 

possible, and yet here I am—enjoying the 

challenges and benefits of being the chairman 

of the weekend that we proudly celebrate this 

most significant milestone. 

I claim no credit for the rich history of the 

Palm Springs Leather Pride or Palm Springs 

Leather Order of the Desert (PSLOD), but I 

get to be the one who stands at the helm and 

accepts the congratulations as we coast past 

this landmark and continue our journey in 

a sea of service to our community first and 

foremost. In a way, that coincidence is symptomatic 

of the reason that I, and many others, 

decided to join PSLOD in the first place. 

Thanks to thousands of attendees over its 

25-year span, the members of PSLOD have 

been given the privilege to be of service to 

others who have more unmet needs and 

fewer resources than we do. We have been 

able to provide necessary assistance to those 

in need. Through last year alone PSLOD has 

raised over $350,000 for local charities and 

last year we established an annual college 

scholarship for accomplished students in 

need of financial assistance. 

PSLOD is a group of like-minded people 

dedicated to service above self, to make a 

bigger difference than one can make alone. 

In the process, we get the added benefit of 

fellowship with people who believe in honor, 

goodwill, mutual respect and the expression 

of one’s right to sexual freedom. 

I take no credit for any of contributions that 

PSLOD and its many honorable members, 

both past and present, have made to our 

community, and there have been many—but 

rather I thank all of those who have preceded 

me and all of you who join me today in helping 

to keep the opportunity of service above 

self for others whose pursuit of happiness 

would be less fulfilled were it not for PSLOD. 

For 25 years, PSLOD has produced one 

of the premier annual leather events in the 

country, hosting thousands of people from 

every corner of the planet and in the process 

of having more fun than we could ever have 

imagined all the while raising hundreds of 

thousands of dollars to distribute to worthwhile 

causes and organizations. Each year 

like the one before a group of men competes 

for the title of Mr. Palm Springs Leather and 

while only one is given the title it is a title 

shared by every attendee, volunteer, and 

member, for all have played a unique role in 

its 25-year history. For that, I will tirelessly 

be grateful to all our attendees, volunteers, 

and members long after each leather pride 

weekend ends. 

It is an envious history and a daunting 

challenge to live up to the legacy that our 

founding members left us. It will take all of 

the imagination, dedication, commitment, 

and effort we can muster to forge ahead and 

continue to raise the bar year after year and 

earn your visit to Palm Springs and the privilege 

to be your host. 

I invite you today—every one of you—to 

make this day the first day in another 25 years 

of a very rich and rewarding history and welcome 

you to Palm Springs Leather Pride XXV.

How does 

one 

measure 

success? 

This is a question 

that I asked myself 

when I started writing 

this open letter. 

Then a thought 

occurred to me, 

every year that 

passes we have 

written a chapter 

in the book that 

details the history 

of Palm Springs 

Leather Order of 

the Desert. This 

book, bound in 

leather, is a living breathing entity that is 

continually filled with stories and memories, 

which causes it to expand in size, enriching 

the storyline. This book is comprised of 

chapters written by countless authors, and as 

of yet, has no end. 

One could argue that existing for a quartercentury, 

in and of itself, is a measure of success. 

I cannot disagree, but I think it is crucial to 

point out why PSLOD is celebrating this very 

special anniversary. We are able to celebrate 

because of the countless hours of dedication, 

involvement, volunteering, acts of selflessness 

and love, yes love, that made this anniversary 

possible. 25 years of community involvement is 

nothing short of remarkable, but absent of the 

memories and stories contained in each chapter, 

it is simply a measurement of time. 

Since my time as President I have witnessed 

minor miracles performed at the 

hands of our club members and volunteers; 

trust me when I say that producing Palm 

Springs Leather Pride is no small feat. When 

the inevitable storms seem to break during 

our preparation, we all pull together making 

the impossible quite possible. We stress, 

we run low on rest, we rush from one end 

of Palm Springs to the other and back, but 

we get the job done. Our rejoicing doesn’t 

take place until the weekend has ended and 

we know the attendees have had an amazing 

time. As a result of this collective effort, 

we have donated hundreds of thousands of 

dollars to charity, contributed to the preservation 

of our history through the Leather 

Archives and Museum and the Tom of Finland 

Foundation, provided education to the community 

on numerous topics, provided scholarships 

to LGBTQI youth, assisted with the 

homeless population in the Coachella Valley 

and many more over the course of the years. 

Our love of leather and the freedom of sexual 

expression are the ties that bind us, yet 

in our currently sociopolitical climate it may 

be easy to forget these ties exist. Ironically 

these are the very times where it is crucial to 

remember that we are better together, that we 

still have work to do. Why? Because our fight 

to simply exist is still being fought for on the 

daily. PSLOD has shown me that even in the 

face of adversity, together we can accomplish 

anything and I am excited to see what 

another 25 years will bring. 

In closing I have to say thank you to my 

Executive Board Skip Mlaker, Matt Drouin, 

Thomas Oliva, our Pride Chairman Randy 

Carmenaty and our club members for everything 

they have done over the past year. They 

are all some of the most amazing people I have 

had the good fortune to know. To the attendees 

of Palm Springs Leather Pride, this celebration 

belongs to all of you! We have an incredible 

weekend of pool parties, education, dances 

and of course, our contest where the new Mr. 

Palm Springs Leather will be chosen planned. 

So please play hard, laugh, make memories 

and then share your stories adding another 

chapter to the book that is the history of PSLOD. 

My time as President has been relatively short, 

but what an incredible journey it has been. 

However, I can see the indelible marks that 

PSLOD has left on our community and to be 

part of an organization that has accomplished 

so much is a great source of pride to me.

as painting abstract art. As Mr. Palm Springs Leather, I hope 

to further issues important to such as sex positivity, mental 

health support, and gender diversity.

first, in all things. I am currently developing a podcast called 

“Jack On: A Beginners Guide to Gay Porn” to debunk the myths and 

stigma of the sex work industry. I’m hardly an expert, but, my ass 

does have it’s own Twitter account. 

MARC BAUMANN 

Mr. Leather Indulgence 2020 

I live on the West Coast but I still have an East Coast mentality. I’m originally from NYC 

but recently made Palm Springs my home. I am a self-proclaimed “DaddyHunter” and 

you will always see me flagging hunter green on my right. Depending upon my mood 

or partner at that time, light blue, navy, yellow, and orange may make an appearance on 

either side as well. I’m an avid self-explorer whether it’s by myself, with a partner, or 

in a group especially is way hot (both in and out of bed). Spontaneity and being able to 

seize the moment are two major aspects of my life. Becoming Mr. Palm Springs Leather 

2020 would afford me a way to help ensure the growth and survival of not only the 

leather community here in Palm Springs but the entire LGBTQ community as well. We 

need to start bridging this growing gap between the new and the old. I believe that we 

must commit to continuing to help newer generations understand the vast struggles and 

triumphs which the older generations have triumphed over while helping the older generation 

understand that technology is not the enemy. Our past is what ultimately binds 

us together not only as a community but also as family.

and focus to do everything possible to eliminate the stigma 

of HIV which is still a significant issue, not only in Palm 

Springs but nationwide as well. I’m excited to partner with 

Team Friendly a national HIV+ awareness organization and 

Introduce them to Palm Springs. I look forward to working 

with my home bar Eagle 501 to bring together many in our 

ever-growing community with the help of my fellow titleholders 

and forge amazing bonds to strengthen the leather 

family for the future.

as a Sagittarian I love

out of the dungeon – 

those into fisting, bondage,

past decade, the gay community in general, and the leather/fetish 

community more narrowly have made Olympian strides from hostility 

to tolerance and from tolerance to acceptance. Yet we still lack 

equality in the context of the larger society. As PS Mr. Leather 2020 

I will champion the fight for equality under the Constitution while 

working shoulder to shoulder with other members of our community 

to bring 20/20 vision to what it means to be a leatherman in the year 

2020 and beyond through 1) curation and preservation of the history 

and culture of our leather/fetish community, 2) demolish barriers for 

those interested in exploring the leather/fetish culture, and 3) celebrate 

within the larger community of the values, ideals, and creeds 

that define and bind us as leathermen – not only in the bedroom/ 

dungeon, but in our daily lives and interactions.

I’m a native Californian 

born in Santa Barbara, to 

a Portuguese father and 

Spanish Italian mother. 

I’m a single daddy

home in Palm Springs.

leather craftsman, performer, and 

wolf. Naturally inclined to serve, Jack has 

been an active member of the leather community 

for 15 years. He is founding father 

of ONYX Northwest and current member of 

ONYX Mid-Atlantic. Founder of Rebel Kings 

of Baltimore: Drag King troupe. A member 

of Alameda Leather Corp, and served as 

the board secretary for Queer Sphere in 

San Francisco. In 2018, Jack both represented 

Mr. May in the Bare Chest calendar 

and became the 2019 Leatherman of Color.

Doc Duhon is a gay 

leatherman who has 

been active in the BDSM 

community for over 30 

years. He is an experienced 

BDSM player with a background that 

includes situational control, care of submissives, 

percussion play expertise, needle, 

scalpel, and piercing play, and a variety of 

other skills and techniques. Doc teaches 

kink and BDSM techniques on a private 

basis, has judged both gay and pansexual 

BDSM/Leather contests, has taught kink 

and power dynamic classes at conferences, 

and has mentored numerous upcoming 

members of the leather community. As 

a collared switch with submissives of his 

own, he both serves and is served.

Sarge volunteers for various leather 

clubs, production companies, events and 

organizations. They are a co-founder of a 

leather family called the House of AndOr, 

which focuses on fundamentals of leather 

life and volunteering. In 2015 Sarge kicked 

off a community mental health awareness 

campaign with leather dog tags, 

called You Are Not Alone. Wearers of the 

tags know they can talk to others wearing 

them, about mental health. They hope 

that suicide rates will decrease with this 

awareness. Winner of the Pantheon of 

Leather southern California regional award,
