C O N T E N T S


I N T R O D U C T I O N<br />

The Trade and Investment Convention is known to be an invaluable<br />

contributor to economic stimulation and growth in the business<br />

community in Trinidad and Tobago and by extension, to other participants<br />

promoting and showcasing their products and services from over 40 countries<br />

throughout the Caribbean region and international territories for the last two<br />

decades. The obvious benefits to these participants are the business opportunities for<br />

trade and investment generated from the convention. Over the last five years, the<br />

average turnover in business opportunities created was 75 million US dollars per year.<br />

Other benefits include the export and investment opportunities thereby earning<br />

valuable foreign exchange, promoting and launching products to the buyers and<br />

consumers, creating and solidifying business partners.<br />

However, it is often overlooked and undocumented that the Trade<br />

and Investment Convention also provides significant opportunities for a<br />

plethora of business disciplines including many trades men and niche<br />

service providers. In the weeks leading up to <strong>TIC</strong> and immediately<br />

following, there are significant short term employment and revenue<br />

earning opportunities that are created for Engineers, Designers,<br />

Craftsmen, Builders, Carpenters, Plant providers, Drivers, Ushers, video<br />

production personnel, photographers, Drone providers, Cleaning<br />

Services, Disc Jockeys, MCs, Entertainers/performers, Catering and<br />

Bar Services, Printing and Packaging, Sign production, Delivery men<br />

and Loaders, Electrical providers, Hardware Dealers, Furniture and<br />

Equipment Rental companies, air cooling providers, event coordinators<br />

and promotion personnel to name a few. Consultants and Technicians<br />

(marketing and branding experts) are also among those whose services<br />

are utilized during this period of <strong>TIC</strong>.<br />

It is difficult to determine what are the exact numbers of manufacturers<br />

and service providers who benefit from the <strong>TIC</strong> event and the revenues<br />

earned from it. However, our research and data would suggest that<br />

the Trade and Investment Convention employs (directly and indirectly)<br />

approximately 200 persons on a short-term basis, yearly. This does not<br />

include revenues and opportunities generated from the Hotel and<br />

Hospitality Industry, the Airline and the Shipping, Transportation and<br />

Storage Industry. These unmeasured benefits from the hosting of <strong>TIC</strong><br />

are defined as qualitative returns from the convention and redounds to<br />

the benefit of employers, employees and entrepreneurs and should not<br />

be dismissed as an inconsequential to the economic development of<br />

the region.<br />

E X E C U T I V E<br />

SUMMARY<br />

The 20th annual Trade and Investment Convention (<strong>TIC</strong>) hosted by the Trinidad and<br />

Tobago Manufacturers’ Association took place during the period Thursday 4th July<br />

– Sunday 7th July, <strong>2019</strong> at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Trinidad and Tobago.<br />

The main sponsors of <strong>TIC</strong> <strong>2019</strong> were the Ministry of Trade and Industry, First Citizens,<br />

TSTT/Blink-Bmobile, the Balroop’s Group and S.M. Jaleel & Company Limited.<br />

This year’s theme “<strong>TIC</strong><strong>2019</strong>: Building a Vision, 20 Years Strong”, reinforced the idea that<br />

<strong>TIC</strong> has been a successful enabling environment for business expansion over the last<br />

20 years in Trinidad and Tobago. Overall, <strong>TIC</strong> <strong>2019</strong> attracted over 17,300 participants.<br />

There were 272 exhibitor booths and 9 pavilions. The exhibitor population consisted<br />

of 262 companies. 198 were local companies and 64 companies were regional and<br />

international enterprises.<br />

<strong>TIC</strong> <strong>2019</strong> facilitated business networking, by hosting the B2B Meeting Service during<br />

the convention days with eight meeting rooms and a Business Lounge. There were<br />

152 pre-set B2B meetings with 89 being convened at the TTMA’s B2B meeting<br />

rooms and an unconfirmed number taking place in the exhibitors’ booths or other<br />

locations at the convention. Additionally, our partnership with exporTT saw an Inward<br />

Buyers’ Mission where B2B meeting engagements with 10 specialized buyers, were<br />

coordinated in a dedicated matchmaking business area. It was in these areas that<br />

participants were able to conduct one on one meetings, which were pre-set before<br />

the convention days or were convened as the convention progressed. This Inward<br />

Buyers’ Mission, along with the B2B Business Service are key aspects of the Trade and<br />

Investment Convention.<br />

The <strong>TIC</strong> <strong>2019</strong> marketing campaign entailed the utilization of several media for<br />

convention promotion; this included traditional forms of media such as, magazines,<br />

newspaper advertising, radio and television during primetime hours. Other mediums<br />

such as digital billboards and social media promotions were used to ensure that the<br />

business and consumer public were made aware of the <strong>TIC</strong> <strong>2019</strong>.<br />
