Troparion 

Year A (cf Romans 5:15-16) 

Brethren, if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have 

the grace of God, and the free gift in the grace of that one man Jesus 

Christ abounded for many. And the free gift is not like the effect of 

that one man’s trespass. For the judgement following one trespass 

brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses 

brings justification. Amen. 

Year B (cf I Peter 3:18-19) 

Beloved, Christ died for sins, once for all, the righteous for the 

unrighteous, that he might bring us to God. He was put to death in 

the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit, in which he went and preached 

to the spirits in prison. Amen. 

Year C (cf Romans 10:8-9) 

Brethren, the word of God is near you, on your lips and in your 

heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach); because if you 

confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart 

that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Amen.

Second Sunday of Lent 

Troparion 

Year A (cf Romans 4:13-15) 

Brethren, the promise to Abraham and his descendants that they 

should inherit the world, did not come through the law, but through 

the righteousness of faith. If it is the adherents of the law who are to 

be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. For the law brings 

wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression. Amen. 

Year B (cf Romans 4:22-25) 

Brethren, the faith of Abraham who believed in the promise of God 

was ‘reckoned to him as righteousness.’ But the words, ‘it was 

reckoned to him,’ were not written for his sake alone, but for ours 

also. It will be reckoned to us who believe in him that raised from the 

dead Jesus our Lord, who was put to death for our trespasses and 

raised for our justification. Amen. 

Year C (cf Philippians 3:20 – 4:1) 

Beloved, our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a 

Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be 

like his glorious body, by the power which enables him to subdue all 

things to himself. Therefore, my brethren, stand firm thus in the 

Lord. Amen.

Third Sunday of Lent 

Troparion 

Year A (cf Romans 5:1-2, 5) 

Brethren, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God 

through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have obtained access 

to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing 

the glory of God; and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s 

love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who 

has been given to us. Amen. 

Year B (cf I Corinthians 1:18-19) 

Brethren, the word of the Cross is folly to those who are perishing, 

but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is 

written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of 

the clever I will thwart.” Amen. 

Year C (cf I Corinthians 10:12-13) 

Brethren, let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God 

is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength; 

but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you 

may be able to endure it. Amen.

Fourth Sunday of Lent 

Troparion 

Year A (cf Ephesians 5:8-10, 13) 

Brethren, once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; 

walk as children of light, and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 

When anything is illumined by the light it becomes visible, for 

anything that becomes visible is light. Amen. 

Year B 

(cf Ephesians 2:4-8a) 

God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved 

us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive 

together with Christ, and raised us up with him, and made us sit with 

him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus; that in the coming ages he 

might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness towards 

us in Christ Jesus; for by grace you have been saved by faith. Amen. 

Year C (cf II Corinthians 5:17-19) 

If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has passed away, 

behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ 

reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 

that is, God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not 

counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the 

message of reconciliation. Amen.

Fifth Sunday of Lent 

Troparion 

Year A 

(cf Romans 8:9b-11) 

Brethren, anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not 

belong to him; but if Christ is in you, although your bodies are dead 

because of sin, your spirits are alive because of righteousness. If the 

Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who 

raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies 

also through his Spirit who dwells in you. Amen. 

Year B (cf Hebrews 5:7-10) 

In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, 

with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from 

death, and he was heard for his godly fear. Although he was a Son, he 

learned obedience through what he suffered; and being made perfect 

he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, being 

designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek. 

Amen. 

Year C (cf Philippians 3:8, 10-11) 

Brethren, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth 

of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss 

of all things, that I may know him, and share in his sufferings; 

becoming like him in his death, that if possible I may attain to the 

resurrection of the dead. Amen. 


Palm Sunday 

Troparion 

Two of the disciples, in fulfilment of prophecy, are sent to bring the 

foal of an ass to the Master of all, and he who is borne on high by the 

host of the seraphim comes riding on a colt. Now all-devouring 

death, the ruler of this world, begins to be afraid; for, through 

Lazarus first of all, he is being despoiled of mankind. Amen.
