The HD models.
Invitingly spacious and comfortable.
The high-decker coaches are perfect if you’re travelling with discerning
passengers on extended trips with a lot of luggage.
The range’s spectrum extends from the compact and very agile S 511 HD, all the
way through to the S 519 HD. The latter is the right choice if you are traveling
with many passengers. As the longest coach in the ComfortClass, it is also ideal
for long-distance line services. The S 511 HD is the ideal club touring coach for
quality trips with a limited number of passengers, for VIP shuttle applications, or even
for use on cycling tours with a trailer.
In short: the HD models from the ComfortClass offer exactly the right coach to
meet any requirements – thanks to their wide range of variants.

The MD models.
Less height, more flexibility.
The MD models bring together the fascination of modern touring coaches with
contemporary efficiency thinking. As middle-deckers, they open up a whole new
coach segment. They are therefore ideal for tours with less luggage and high-level
travel comfort – for long-distance line services as well as for occasional services.
The lower vehicle height of the MD models results in especially low air
resistance, less curb weight, and therefore favourable consumption, combined
with a high payload.
At the same time, your passengers will enjoy the high-level touring comfort of the
ComfortClass – with an impressive interior standing height and diverse customisation
options. You can look forward to receiving exactly the level of equipment for
your MD that suits your touring applications: from the basic standard-equipment
all the way through to fully customised high-level comfort.

On the inside:

The ComfortClass 500’s inner greatness.
Outstanding spaciousness is what distinguishes travel in a ComfortClass 500.
From the first moment onwards: the wide steps and the elegant handrail make
boarding the coach a pleasure.
The interior standing height of 2.10 metres and the unusual ceiling concept create
an outstanding feeling of space: the passenger compartment opens upwards
on the sides, enabling a sweeping view through the large panoramic windows.
We take safety seriously.
More safety for passengers and drivers: UN ECE Regulation 118.
The new version of UN ECE Regulation 118.02 requires newly registered buses from summer 2020 to have additional
fire test certificates for materials in the interior, engine compartment, and separate heater compartments. Having
the greatest possible safety is a core value for Daimler Buses and compliance with the statutory requirements
a self-evident duty. Therefore all materials now used in the interior of our buses are being tested, and where
necessary respecified.
The modifications undertaken for plastics are not noticeable to the eye or touch. As part of qualification in accordance
with UN ECE Regulation 118.02 the collection of our seat cover materials is also being changed. The only restriction
will be in the variety of colour shades and patterns (designs) available. The quality requirements of Daimler Buses
for the textiles of the seat materials in its collection will remain at the existing high level. We would ask you to be
aware that the appearance and feel of the materials illustrated in this brochure may change due to these design
optimisations in the interest of safety.
The current Setra seat generation, with its comfortable, ergonomically shaped
backrests, ensures maximum seating comfort and ease of use. A modern heating
and air-conditioning concept ensures an equally high climatic comfort throughout
the entire coach interior.* And, to open up a generous view to the outside for all
passengers, on many seat models the aisle seats can be configured six centimetres
to the front of the window seats on request.**

The cockpit makes
driving a dream.
Ergonomic design at its most refined.
The ComfortClass 500 was consistently designed for the comfort and well-being
of the driver. Even at first glance, the Cockpit Comfort exudes an exceptional
feeling of quality (image to the right). But most of all, a state-of-the-art instrument
cluster, a superb overview and consistent operating logic throughout the coach all
come together with outstanding ergonomics.
For example, the driver’s seat, steering column and steering wheel offer multiple
adjustment options. The exceptionally practical storage concept in the cockpit
addresses the needs and wishes of many drivers. Invisible heating at the driver’s
window contributes to very pleasant temperature control.
The standard-equipment cockpit found in the MD models is ideally conceived for
the driver (image below). In these vehicles, the Cockpit Comfort is available as
special equipment. Optionally, you can select the Coach smartRadio coach which
offers a variety of media playback options: e.g. audio-streaming via Bluetooth,
hands-free calling, announcements with microphone prioritisation and audio-playback
via USB or SD card.

Easy online access: The optional Coach MediaRouter enables
your passengers to access the Internet via wireless
LTE-speed WLAN. Via the router, you can also provide your
passengers with media content such as movies, music and
images, which they can retrieve for their personal on-board
entertainment via smartphone, tablet or other.
Relaxed on the road: the driver’s and attendant’s seat offer superb comfort.
For a harmonious interior, they can be matched to the passenger seats in colour
and design (option).
Great entertainment: the optional 48 cm (19") ceiling monitors are also
avail able in an electrically foldable version. With the DVB-T2 tuner (option), you
can play TV programmes in HD quality or – via USB stick – films and music.
At your service: the optional standing galley is positioned directly at the rear
entrance and, along with several storage possibilities, it can be equipped with
a coffee machine, sausage cooker and a hot water dispenser, among others.
A perfect overview: the state-of-the-art instrument cluster includes a
high-resolution colour display and a pane of resistant glass.

Made-to-measure equipment.
A selection of standard and optional equipment.
With a choice of two different door positions and in conjunction with the galley and
WC options, you can adapt your ComfortClass to suit your specific requirements.
Therefore, the middle door is the right choice if you want to carry as many passengers
as possible with a reasonable amount of luggage.
If maximum luggage compartment capacity and an attractive integrated seat
layout are in the foreground for you, the optional rear door is the right coach for
you (only available for 2-axle vehicles). It enables a considerably higher luggage
volume compared to the middle-door version, as well as comfortable access to
the rear WC.
Barrier-free access: of course we will be happy to equip your new ComfortClass
for passengers with limited mobility, as per ECE-R 107, upon request. The electrohydraulic
wheelchair lift is installed in the luggage compartment behind the
front axle (actual installation may differ from the image shown).
For sports-minded travel: the ski box, painted in the same colour as the coach
body and made of durable composite material, offers plenty of additional storage
space and blends in perfectly with the design of the ComfortClass (optional).
Recharging à la carte: with the optional USB ports (10.5 W/2.1 A) your
passengers can conveniently recharge small electrical devices such as mobile
phones or cameras. You can select between different positions.

Your objectives need security as well.
The ComfortClass is truly outstanding in terms of driver and
passenger protection, since it has a range of state-of-the-art
safety systems on board. For example, the optional Sideguard
Assist offers even more protection for pedestrians and cyclists
when turning.
The ComfortClass features the Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4) as
standard. Thanks to pedestrian detection, it ensures maximum
protection not only on highways, but also in the city. The Lane
Assist (SPA) and highly advanced Front Collision Guard (FCG) are
also standard safety features. Addditionally, the ComfortClass
with its high structural rigidity, as per ECE-R 66.02, is ideally
equipped to meet current requirements.
The ComfortClass also features further systems engineered
to protect drivers and passengers. These include Attention
Assist (AtAs, option), which detects driver fatigue and actively
warns him or her, integrated headlights with LED technology
for low and high beams (option), and last but not least, the
electropneumatic braking system (EBS, standard) with Brake
Assist (BAS).
RDK 111
The Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM, option) with the display in the instrument
cluster makes checking tire pressure extremely convenient. Additionally, it
warns the driver if the tire temperature is too high. It helps you avoid tire
damage – serving both safety and cost-effectiveness.
The optional Sideguard Assist uses short-range radar sensors to monitor the
lane to the right of the coach. When turning, it warns the driver of pedestrians,
cyclists and standing obstacles in the monitoring zone, with optical and haptic
signals.
Seeing and being seen better: The long-life LED headlamps (option) with a
very precisely definable, bright light beam ensure improved safety. The light
colour corresponds to that of daylight and therefore results in the driver’s
eyes becoming tired less quickly.

Cost-effectiveness: everything under one roof.
The ComfortClass 500 brings together high-level cost-effectiveness,
powerful performance and environmental compatibility. For
example, thanks to the BlueEFFICIENCY Power engines from
Mercedes-Benz, which also achieve best marks in terms of
performance and weight.
The ComfortClass 500’s highly rigid yet lightweight support
structure ensures favourable fuel consumption, as well as
intelligent energy and consumption management. Further more,
its consistently aerodynamic outer shell which, together with
automatic level lowering at high speeds, reduces consumption
even further.
With the optional Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC), Setra offers
the driver for the first time ever a driver assistance system
which, in addition to speed and brake control, intervenes in the
automatic transmission control.*
Because the system knows the topography ahead thanks to GPS
maps, it can proactively optimise switching times and cruise
speed – especially in ascent and descents – and therefore act
more fuel-efficiently. Predictive Powertrain Control makes the
ComfortClass 500 even more cost-effective.
This and many other measures contribute to the
ComfortClass 500’s consumption remaining pleasingly
low. And, thanks to a whole series of clever weight
optimisation measures, the load and passenger capacity
of the ComfortClass are exceptionally high.
All of this provides you as an operator with crystal clear
financial benefits – along with even further optimised
maintenance costs. And, one day, you will also capitalise

Technology in detail. Things to know about the important features
and options of the ComfortClass 500.

Sideguard Assist.
The Sideguard Assist turning assistant feature considerably
increases the safety of unprotected road users, especially
in cities, since it helps the driver recognise critical situations
in a timely manner when turning. The system operates in
different stages: in a first stage, it informs the driver, and in
a second stage, it provides an additional warning.
If a moving object is located in the lateral or side monitoring
zone, the driver is informed optically. In the exterior
mirror on the passenger’s side, an LED light in a triangular
shape illuminates yellow at the driver’s height of vision.
It intuitively directs the attention to the situation next to
the vehicle. Additionally, a warning message appears in
the central display.
If the driver initiates or continues an action that could lead
to a collision, an additional visual warning is given: the LED
light flashes several times red with higher luminosity and
then permanently. In addition to this, a tactile vibration
acts as a warning in the driver’s seat. Moreover, Sideguard
Assist warns the driver of stationary obstacles in the
coach’s turning curve and can also take on the task of
a lane changing assistant, in which case it operates with
the same warning cascade.
Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4).
Regardless of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ART) function,
Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4) warns the driver prior to
a collision with an obstacle and independently brakes the
coach. To this end, the radar-controlled system constantly
scans an area of up to 250 metres of the lane in front of the
coach. As the worldʼs first system of its kind, ABA 4 also
reacts to pedestrians.
Therefore, in addition to moving vehicles and stationary
obstacles ahead (e.g. the tail-end of a traffic jam), the system
also detects pedestrians within 80 metres. For example,
should the distance to pedestrians be dangerously reduced,
the system alerts the driver by means of visual and acoustic
warning signals, while initiating partial braking through to a
standstill if the driver does not respond. The partial braking
provides the driver with the possibility of avoiding the collision
by means of a full braking or steering manoeuvre. Additionally,
he can warn endangered pedestrians in time using the
vehicle’s horn.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ART).
The Adaptive Cruise Control feature relieves the driver by
maintaining a constant distance – defined by the driver –
from the vehicle ahead, based on continuous measurements.
This not only increases safety on country roads and
highways, but also convenience.
A radar system, which guarantees outstanding functionality
even under poor weather conditions and in the dark, monitors
a distance of up to 250 meters in front of the vehicle and to
the full width of the road. Should a variably defined security
distance to the vehicle driving ahead be undercut, ART slows
down the coach so that the safety zone is maintained. Many
rear-impact collisions can therefore be avoided.
Unlike the emergency assistant Active Brake Assist 4
(ABA 4), ART initiates a smooth braking with maximum
20 per cent of its possible power.
Lane Assist (SPA).
Driver fatigue ranks among the most frequent causes of
accidents. The Lane Assist feature, at the heart of which
is a camera positioned behind the front windscreen,
continuously measures the lateral distance to side road
markings. If the driver leaves his lane, the system warns
him using a directional vibration in the seat cushion. For
example, if he inadvertently heads to the right, the seat
cushion vibrates on the right side.
To avoid false alarms, the Lane Assist is only activated at
speeds of 60 km/h or above. This prevents problems
along construction sites, where coaches hardly drive at
speeds greater than 60 km/h. If the driver consciously
changes lanes and puts the blinker on, the Lane Assist
recognises this and does not give a warning.
Level lowering and kneeling.
The ComfortClass 500 is equipped with an electronic level
control which offers tangible benefits to both operators
and passengers. On the one hand, at high speeds, the level
of the coach is automatically lowered, which in interaction
with the very aerodynamic design of the ComfortClass 500,
contributes to optimised fuel consumption. On the other
hand, for the first time with a coach, “kneeling” is used as
standard equipment. This allows the level of the non-moving
coach to be lowered on one side, to facilitate passenger
entry into the coach.
Front Collision Guard (FCG).
In the case of a frontal collision, the Front Collision Guard
(FCG) offers increased safety in the front part of the vehicle
and reliable underride protection through a cross profile.
Crash elements, with an absorber structure which transforms
impact energy into distortion energy, are positioned behind
the FCG’s cross profile. This considerably reduces the outcome
of the impact.
Since the driver’s work space, incl. steering, pedals and seat,
is mounted on a massive frame component, it can be pushed
backwards to maintain a protective space for the driver in the
case of severe frontal impact. So, the interplay of Active
Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4) and FCG can achieve unparalleled
levels of safety for the driver and attendant, and ultimately
for passengers as well.
The FCG fulfils the requirements of the underride guard
according to ECE-R 93, as well as legal norms for pendulum
impact in coaches.
The AquaBlade windshield washer system.
With a highly innovative profile, the AquaBlade flat-blade
wipers ensure that the cleaning water is distributed
very evenly on the windscreen. What is unusual about the
system is that the cleaning water exits the wiper blade
and is immediately directly to the area requiring cleaning.
This enhances comfort, saves cleaning water, enables
improved cleaning and optimised visibility – and ultimately
a significant plus in safety. As well, the AquaBlade flatblade
wipers feature exceptional aerodynamic qualities,
which also result in reduced noise.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP ® ).
The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP ® ) significantly
reduces the risk of skidding, by counteracting the vehicle’s
swerving through targeted braking of individual wheels.
High-performance electronics monitor the signals of
ESP ® sensors and continuously check whether the driver’s
steering intention and the actual motion of the vehicle
correspond. If the values differ, the system instantly reduces
the engine power to re-establish the vehicle’s balance and
stability. If this is not sufficient, the system additionally
brakes individual wheels.
Two further active safety systems are included in the
ESP ® system: the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and the
Integrated Traction Control (ASR).

Electronic vehicle components (e.g. Airbag Control Unit, Engine Control Unit) contain data storage for vehicle Technical Data, including but not limited
to Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the event of a malfunction, vehicle speed, braking force, or operating conditions of the Restraint System and Driver Assistance
Systems in case of an accident (no audio and no video data recording). This data is either stored volatile, punctual as snapshot e.g. Diagnostic Trouble Codes,
over a short period of time (a few seconds only) e.g. in case of an accident or in aggregated form e.g. for component load evaluation. The data can be read
using interfaces connected to the vehicle. Trained technicians can process and utilize the data to diagnose and repair possible malfunctions. The manufacturer
can use the data to analyze and improve vehicle functions. When requested by the customer, Technical Data can form the basis of additional optional services.
In general, data from the vehicle is transferred to the manufacturer or a third party only according to legal allowance, or based on a contractual customer
consent in accordance with data protection laws. Further information regarding storage of vehicle Technical Data is provided in the vehicle Owner’s Manual.
