The HD models.<br />

Invitingly spacious and comfortable.<br />

The high-decker coaches are perfect if you’re travelling with discerning<br />

passengers on extended trips with a lot of luggage.<br />

The range’s spectrum extends from the compact and very agile S 511 HD, all the<br />

way through to the S 519 HD. The latter is the right choice if you are traveling<br />

with many passengers. As the longest coach in the ComfortClass, it is also ideal<br />

for long-distance line services. The S 511 HD is the ideal club touring coach for<br />

quality trips with a limited number of passengers, for VIP shuttle applications, or even<br />

for use on cycling tours with a trailer.<br />

In short: the HD models from the ComfortClass offer exactly the right coach to<br />

meet any requirements – thanks to their wide range of variants.<br />

The MD models.<br />

Less height, more flexibility.<br />

The MD models bring together the fascination of modern touring coaches with<br />

contemporary efficiency thinking. As middle-deckers, they open up a whole new<br />

coach segment. They are therefore ideal for tours with less luggage and high-level<br />

travel comfort – for long-distance line services as well as for occasional services.<br />

The lower vehicle height of the MD models results in especially low air<br />

resistance, less curb weight, and therefore favourable consumption, combined<br />

with a high payload.<br />

At the same time, your passengers will enjoy the high-level touring comfort of the<br />

ComfortClass – with an impressive interior standing height and diverse customisation<br />

options. You can look forward to receiving exactly the level of equipment for<br />

your MD that suits your touring applications: from the basic standard-equipment<br />

all the way through to fully customised high-level comfort.<br />

Outstanding spaciousness is what distinguishes travel in a ComfortClass 500.<br />

From the first moment onwards: the wide steps and the elegant handrail make<br />

boarding the coach a pleasure.<br />

The interior standing height of 2.10 metres and the unusual ceiling concept create<br />

an outstanding feeling of space: the passenger compartment opens upwards<br />

on the sides, enabling a sweeping view through the large panoramic windows.<br />

We take safety seriously.<br />

More safety for passengers and drivers: UN ECE Regulation 118.<br />

The new version of UN ECE Regulation 118.02 requires newly registered buses from summer 2020 to have additional<br />

fire test certificates for materials in the interior, engine compartment, and separate heater compartments. Having<br />

the greatest possible safety is a core value for Daimler Buses and compliance with the statutory requirements<br />

a self-evident duty. Therefore all materials now used in the interior of our buses are being tested, and where<br />

necessary respecified.<br />

The modifications undertaken for plastics are not noticeable to the eye or touch. As part of qualification in accordance<br />

with UN ECE Regulation 118.02 the collection of our seat cover materials is also being changed. The only restriction<br />

will be in the variety of colour shades and patterns (designs) available. The quality requirements of Daimler Buses<br />

for the textiles of the seat materials in its collection will remain at the existing high level. We would ask you to be<br />

aware that the appearance and feel of the materials illustrated in this brochure may change due to these design<br />

optimisations in the interest of safety.<br />

The current Setra seat generation, with its comfortable, ergonomically shaped<br />

backrests, ensures maximum seating comfort and ease of use. A modern heating<br />

and air-conditioning concept ensures an equally high climatic comfort throughout<br />

the entire coach interior.* And, to open up a generous view to the outside for all<br />

passengers, on many seat models the aisle seats can be configured six centimetres<br />

to the front of the window seats on request.**<br />

* The air-conditioning system and the refrigerator of your vehicle are filled with the refrigerant R-134a, and contain a<br />

fluorinated greenhouse gas. Notices with detailed information on the type of refrigerant used can be found on the<br />

Ergonomic design at its most refined.<br />

The ComfortClass 500 was consistently designed for the comfort and well-being<br />

of the driver. Even at first glance, the Cockpit Comfort exudes an exceptional<br />

feeling of quality (image to the right). But most of all, a state-of-the-art instrument<br />

cluster, a superb overview and consistent operating logic throughout the coach all<br />

come together with outstanding ergonomics.<br />

For example, the driver’s seat, steering column and steering wheel offer multiple<br />

adjustment options. The exceptionally practical storage concept in the cockpit<br />

addresses the needs and wishes of many drivers. Invisible heating at the driver’s<br />

window contributes to very pleasant temperature control.<br />

The standard-equipment cockpit found in the MD models is ideally conceived for<br />

the driver (image below). In these vehicles, the Cockpit Comfort is available as<br />

special equipment. Optionally, you can select the Coach smartRadio coach which<br />

offers a variety of media playback options: e.g. audio-streaming via Bluetooth,<br />

hands-free calling, announcements with microphone prioritisation and audio-playback<br />

via USB or SD card.<br />

Easy online access: The optional Coach MediaRouter enables<br />

your passengers to access the Internet via wireless<br />

LTE-speed WLAN. Via the router, you can also provide your<br />

passengers with media content such as movies, music and<br />

images, which they can retrieve for their personal on-board<br />

entertainment via smartphone, tablet or other.<br />

Relaxed on the road: the driver’s and attendant’s seat offer superb comfort.<br />

For a harmonious interior, they can be matched to the passenger seats in colour<br />

and design (option).<br />

Great entertainment: the optional 48 cm (19") ceiling monitors are also<br />

avail able in an electrically foldable version. With the DVB-T2 tuner (option), you<br />

can play TV programmes in HD quality or – via USB stick – films and music.<br />

At your service: the optional standing galley is positioned directly at the rear<br />

entrance and, along with several storage possibilities, it can be equipped with<br />

a coffee machine, sausage cooker and a hot water dispenser, among others.<br />

A perfect overview: the state-of-the-art instrument cluster includes a<br />

high-resolution colour display and a pane of resistant glass.<br />

With a choice of two different door positions and in conjunction with the galley and<br />

WC options, you can adapt your ComfortClass to suit your specific requirements.<br />

Therefore, the middle door is the right choice if you want to carry as many passengers<br />

as possible with a reasonable amount of luggage.<br />

If maximum luggage compartment capacity and an attractive integrated seat<br />

layout are in the foreground for you, the optional rear door is the right coach for<br />

you (only available for 2-axle vehicles). It enables a considerably higher luggage<br />

volume compared to the middle-door version, as well as comfortable access to<br />

the rear WC.<br />

Barrier-free access: of course we will be happy to equip your new ComfortClass<br />

for passengers with limited mobility, as per ECE-R 107, upon request. The electrohydraulic<br />

wheelchair lift is installed in the luggage compartment behind the<br />

front axle (actual installation may differ from the image shown).<br />

For sports-minded travel: the ski box, painted in the same colour as the coach<br />

body and made of durable composite material, offers plenty of additional storage<br />

space and blends in perfectly with the design of the ComfortClass (optional).<br />

Recharging à la carte: with the optional USB ports (10.5 W/2.1 A) your<br />

passengers can conveniently recharge small electrical devices such as mobile<br />

phones or cameras. You can select between different positions.<br />

Your objectives need security as well.<br />

The ComfortClass is truly outstanding in terms of driver and<br />

passenger protection, since it has a range of state-of-the-art<br />

safety systems on board. For example, the optional Sideguard<br />

Assist offers even more protection for pedestrians and cyclists<br />

when turning.<br />

The ComfortClass features the Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4) as<br />

standard. Thanks to pedestrian detection, it ensures maximum<br />

protection not only on highways, but also in the city. The Lane<br />

Assist (SPA) and highly advanced Front Collision Guard (FCG) are<br />

also standard safety features. Addditionally, the ComfortClass<br />

with its high structural rigidity, as per ECE-R 66.02, is ideally<br />

equipped to meet current requirements.<br />

The ComfortClass also features further systems engineered<br />

to protect drivers and passengers. These include Attention<br />

Assist (AtAs, option), which detects driver fatigue and actively<br />

warns him or her, integrated headlights with LED technology<br />

for low and high beams (option), and last but not least, the<br />

electropneumatic braking system (EBS, standard) with Brake<br />

Assist (BAS).<br />

RDK 111<br />

The Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM, option) with the display in the instrument<br />

cluster makes checking tire pressure extremely convenient. Additionally, it<br />

warns the driver if the tire temperature is too high. It helps you avoid tire<br />

damage – serving both safety and cost-effectiveness.<br />

The optional Sideguard Assist uses short-range radar sensors to monitor the<br />

lane to the right of the coach. When turning, it warns the driver of pedestrians,<br />

cyclists and standing obstacles in the monitoring zone, with optical and haptic<br />

signals.<br />

Seeing and being seen better: The long-life LED headlamps (option) with a<br />

very precisely definable, bright light beam ensure improved safety. The light<br />

colour corresponds to that of daylight and therefore results in the driver’s<br />

eyes becoming tired less quickly.<br />

Cost-effectiveness: everything under one roof.<br />

The ComfortClass 500 brings together high-level cost-effectiveness,<br />

powerful performance and environmental compatibility. For<br />

example, thanks to the BlueEFFICI<strong>EN</strong>CY Power engines from<br />

Mercedes-Benz, which also achieve best marks in terms of<br />

performance and weight.<br />

The ComfortClass 500’s highly rigid yet lightweight support<br />

structure ensures favourable fuel consumption, as well as<br />

intelligent energy and consumption management. Further more,<br />

its consistently aerodynamic outer shell which, together with<br />

automatic level lowering at high speeds, reduces consumption<br />

even further.<br />

With the optional Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC), Setra offers<br />

the driver for the first time ever a driver assistance system<br />

which, in addition to speed and brake control, intervenes in the<br />

automatic transmission control.*<br />

Because the system knows the topography ahead thanks to GPS<br />

maps, it can proactively optimise switching times and cruise<br />

speed – especially in ascent and descents – and therefore act<br />

more fuel-efficiently. Predictive Powertrain Control makes the<br />

ComfortClass 500 even more cost-effective.<br />

This and many other measures contribute to the<br />

ComfortClass 500’s consumption remaining pleasingly<br />

low. And, thanks to a whole series of clever weight<br />

optimisation measures, the load and passenger capacity<br />

of the ComfortClass are exceptionally high.<br />

All of this provides you as an operator with crystal clear<br />

Technology in detail. Things to know about the important features<br />

and options of the ComfortClass 500.<br />

Sideguard Assist.<br />

The Sideguard Assist turning assistant feature considerably<br />

increases the safety of unprotected road users, especially<br />

in cities, since it helps the driver recognise critical situations<br />

in a timely manner when turning. The system operates in<br />

different stages: in a first stage, it informs the driver, and in<br />

a second stage, it provides an additional warning.<br />

If a moving object is located in the lateral or side monitoring<br />

zone, the driver is informed optically. In the exterior<br />

mirror on the passenger’s side, an LED light in a triangular<br />

shape illuminates yellow at the driver’s height of vision.<br />

It intuitively directs the attention to the situation next to<br />

the vehicle. Additionally, a warning message appears in<br />

the central display.<br />

If the driver initiates or continues an action that could lead<br />

to a collision, an additional visual warning is given: the LED<br />

light flashes several times red with higher luminosity and<br />

then permanently. In addition to this, a tactile vibration<br />

acts as a warning in the driver’s seat. Moreover, Sideguard<br />

Assist warns the driver of stationary obstacles in the<br />

coach’s turning curve and can also take on the task of<br />

a lane changing assistant, in which case it operates with<br />

the same warning cascade.<br />

Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4).<br />

Regardless of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ART) function,<br />

Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4) warns the driver prior to<br />

a collision with an obstacle and independently brakes the<br />

coach. To this end, the radar-controlled system constantly<br />

scans an area of up to 250 metres of the lane in front of the<br />

coach. As the worldʼs first system of its kind, ABA 4 also<br />

reacts to pedestrians.<br />

Therefore, in addition to moving vehicles and stationary<br />

obstacles ahead (e.g. the tail-end of a traffic jam), the system<br />

also detects pedestrians within 80 metres. For example,<br />

should the distance to pedestrians be dangerously reduced,<br />

the system alerts the driver by means of visual and acoustic<br />

warning signals, while initiating partial braking through to a<br />

standstill if the driver does not respond. The partial braking<br />

provides the driver with the possibility of avoiding the collision<br />

by means of a full braking or steering manoeuvre. Additionally,<br />

he can warn endangered pedestrians in time using the<br />

vehicle’s horn.<br />

Adaptive Cruise Control (ART).<br />

The Adaptive Cruise Control feature relieves the driver by<br />

maintaining a constant distance – defined by the driver –<br />

from the vehicle ahead, based on continuous measurements.<br />

This not only increases safety on country roads and<br />

highways, but also convenience.<br />

A radar system, which guarantees outstanding functionality<br />

even under poor weather conditions and in the dark, monitors<br />

a distance of up to 250 meters in front of the vehicle and to<br />

the full width of the road. Should a variably defined security<br />

distance to the vehicle driving ahead be undercut, ART slows<br />

down the coach so that the safety zone is maintained. Many<br />

rear-impact collisions can therefore be avoided.<br />

Unlike the emergency assistant Active Brake Assist 4<br />

(ABA 4), ART initiates a smooth braking with maximum<br />

20 per cent of its possible power.<br />

Lane Assist (SPA).<br />

Driver fatigue ranks among the most frequent causes of<br />

accidents. The Lane Assist feature, at the heart of which<br />

is a camera positioned behind the front windscreen,<br />

continuously measures the lateral distance to side road<br />

markings. If the driver leaves his lane, the system warns<br />

him using a directional vibration in the seat cushion. For<br />

example, if he inadvertently heads to the right, the seat<br />

cushion vibrates on the right side.<br />

To avoid false alarms, the Lane Assist is only activated at<br />

speeds of 60 km/h or above. This prevents problems<br />

along construction sites, where coaches hardly drive at<br />

speeds greater than 60 km/h. If the driver consciously<br />

changes lanes and puts the blinker on, the Lane Assist<br />

recognises this and does not give a warning.<br />

Level lowering and kneeling.<br />

The ComfortClass 500 is equipped with an electronic level<br />

control which offers tangible benefits to both operators<br />

and passengers. On the one hand, at high speeds, the level<br />

of the coach is automatically lowered, which in interaction<br />

with the very aerodynamic design of the ComfortClass 500,<br />

contributes to optimised fuel consumption. On the other<br />

hand, for the first time with a coach, “kneeling” is used as<br />

standard equipment. This allows the level of the non-moving<br />

coach to be lowered on one side, to facilitate passenger<br />

entry into the coach.<br />

Front Collision Guard (FCG).<br />

In the case of a frontal collision, the Front Collision Guard<br />

(FCG) offers increased safety in the front part of the vehicle<br />

and reliable underride protection through a cross profile.<br />

Crash elements, with an absorber structure which transforms<br />

impact energy into distortion energy, are positioned behind<br />

the FCG’s cross profile. This considerably reduces the outcome<br />

of the impact.<br />

Since the driver’s work space, incl. steering, pedals and seat,<br />

is mounted on a massive frame component, it can be pushed<br />

backwards to maintain a protective space for the driver in the<br />

case of severe frontal impact. So, the interplay of Active<br />

Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4) and FCG can achieve unparalleled<br />

levels of safety for the driver and attendant, and ultimately<br />

for passengers as well.<br />

The FCG fulfils the requirements of the underride guard<br />

according to ECE-R 93, as well as legal norms for pendulum<br />

impact in coaches.<br />

The AquaBlade windshield washer system.<br />

With a highly innovative profile, the AquaBlade flat-blade<br />

wipers ensure that the cleaning water is distributed<br />

very evenly on the windscreen. What is unusual about the<br />

system is that the cleaning water exits the wiper blade<br />

and is immediately directly to the area requiring cleaning.<br />

This enhances comfort, saves cleaning water, enables<br />

improved cleaning and optimised visibility – and ultimately<br />

a significant plus in safety. As well, the AquaBlade flatblade<br />

wipers feature exceptional aerodynamic qualities,<br />

which also result in reduced noise.<br />

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP ® ).<br />

The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP ® ) significantly<br />

reduces the risk of skidding, by counteracting the vehicle’s<br />

swerving through targeted braking of individual wheels.<br />

High-performance electronics monitor the signals of<br />

ESP ® sensors and continuously check whether the driver’s<br />

steering intention and the actual motion of the vehicle<br />

correspond. If the values differ, the system instantly reduces<br />

the engine power to re-establish the vehicle’s balance and<br />

stability. If this is not sufficient, the system additionally<br />

brakes individual wheels.<br />

Two further active safety systems are included in the<br />

ESP ® system: the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and the<br />

Integrated Traction Control (ASR).<br />

Electronic vehicle components (e.g. Airbag Control Unit, Engine Control Unit) contain data storage for vehicle Technical Data, including but not limited<br />

to Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the event of a malfunction, vehicle speed, braking force, or operating conditions of the Restraint System and Driver Assistance<br />

Systems in case of an accident (no audio and no video data recording). This data is either stored volatile, punctual as snapshot e.g. Diagnostic Trouble Codes,<br />

over a short period of time (a few seconds only) e.g. in case of an accident or in aggregated form e.g. for component load evaluation. The data can be read<br />

using interfaces connected to the vehicle. Trained technicians can process and utilize the data to diagnose and repair possible malfunctions. The manufacturer<br />

can use the data to analyze and improve vehicle functions. When requested by the customer, Technical Data can form the basis of additional optional services.<br />

In general, data from the vehicle is transferred to the manufacturer or a third party only according to legal allowance, or based on a contractual customer<br />
