"I would rather have exhibitors and theatre owners give me an award saying my movies are making money for everybody. I think for me, that is important as a filmmaker. My father was a producer and he died penniless because his movies flopped. So, I always feel it's my responsibility as a filmmaker (to ensure) everyone makes money when my movie is released -- be it the samosawaala or theatres owners," said Farah, while interacting with the media at Big Cine Expo 2019 on Tuesday in Mumbai felicitated at the event. Akshaye Khanna recently interacted with the mediapersons at the trailer launch event of his upcoming release Section 375. The actor was quizzed about a sequel to Farhan Akhtar directorial Dil Chahta Hai in which he stars along with Saif Ali Khan and Aamir Khan. Akshaye shared that the film's sequel will be a good idea when all the three lead actors will be over 50 years in age. Interestingly, Dil Chahta Hai recently clocked 18 years of its release as well. During his interaction with the media, Akshaye Khanna was asked what would the characters of the film be doing as of today, in his opinion. Akshaye told the mediapersons, "I always told Farhan that wait till all of us are fifty plus and then make Dil Chahta Hai 2." He added saying, "Then it will be fun, it is no fun if you make it after 10-15 years. So now Aamir is 50 plus, Saif will be there soon and I'll take a little more time and then we'll see!" Starring Aamir Khan, Akshaye Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in the leads, Dil Chahta Hai explored the different dynamics that the three friends share, how they grow apart post college owing to their different approaches towards their relationships and how they finall fall back together again. The film marked the directorial debut of Farhan Akhtat and remains one of the best movies exporing the bond of friendship and love in Bollywood. YouTube is finally making its original shows and movies free for everyone to watch. YouTube Originals are exclusive to members of YouTube Premium. Starting September 24, viewers will be able to watch YouTube Originals without a premium membership. YouTube had announced earlier this year that it would make some of its original programming free for users. However, these YouTube Originals will be ad supported. Also, not all episodes of a show will be available for free viewing. YouTube will also restrict some episodes for a limited time. “Some YouTube Original series, movies, and live events are available for viewing without a YouTube Premium subscription. However, you will see ads during this viewing experience and only select episodes may be available for streaming at any time,” YouTube said in its blog post. Interested viewers can check YouTube Originals channel to see which shows and movies are free to watch. Those which are still exclusive to YouTube Premium members will have the ‘Premium’ tag below the video. Among the YouTube Originals shows which are currently free or will be free are Cobra Kai, Groom, Impulse, Liza on Demand and Mind Field. Although free, the list of shows is quite limited for viewers. Popular shows like BTS: Burn The Stage, Scare PewDiePie, Youth and Consequences and Single by 30 are still exclusive to YouTube Premium. Once the free viewing starts, YouTube could make more shows available. This will also work only in countries where YouTube Premium is available. YouTube launched its premium subscription service in India earlier this year. YouTube Premium is priced at Rs 129 per month. Under this membership, YouTube Premium users get ad-free viewing, video and playlist downloads, all access to YouTube Originals including bonus scenes, free YouTube Music subscription and background play. YouTube Premium users can also connect to Google Home smart speakers and Chromecast Audio. Separately, YouTube Music is available for Rs 99 per month in India. Los Angeles: Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio's environmental initiative called Earth Alliance has pledged $5 million towards the preservation of the Amazon rain forest following the wildfires. The new organisation's emergency Amazon Forest Fund is working to support local partners and indigenous communities in their efforts to protect the sensitive habitats within the Amazon, reports variety.com. The funds will be donated to five local organizations. According to the fund's website, more than 72,000 fires have been reported by Brazil's National Institute for Space Research (INPE) - a sharp growth from 2018's 40,000 fires, which can largely be attributed to an unprecedented surge in deforestation by cattle operations and feed crops. The alarming wildfires have also sparked widespread outrage online, prompting a number of celebrities to use their social media platforms to raise awareness. "The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth's warming in check," DiCaprio had written on Instagram. Founded in July by DiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs and Brian Sheth, Earth Alliance is a climate change organisation led by an independent management team of scientists and conservationists, working to protect ecosystems and wildlife, ensure climate justice, support renewable energy and secure indigenous rights.

Friday, August 30, 2019 | www.goantimes.titosgoa.com | 12 Pages The colours of Bonderam in Divar Source: ETIMES The scenic Divar Island was full of colourful flags, traditional bands, authentic food and lots of excitement as crowds flocked to the village to witness the annual Bonderam festival that took place on Saturday afternoon. People took part in the Bonderachi Pasoi, which aimed at bringing out the festival’s heritage aspect, apart from traditional games like kattodio (coconut-smashing competition). There were also performances by a brass band and other Goan musicians, and even a float parade. Bonderachi Pasoi Several houses were decorated with flags and colourful banners to welcome people, with some villagers opening their houses and offering traditional sweets to those taking part in the heritage walk. The pasoi started from the church and went around the village, stopping at eight houses where the revellers were warmly welcomed and served chone, doce, chai, alle belle, pude, sanna or patoleos. “Some of the people had never tasted these,” says Marius Fernandes, who organised the Bonderachi Pasoi. The walk was led by school students holding flags and a traditional band playing music. Folk songs, dance performances and other presentations along the way ensured everyone got the true essence of the festival that has been forgotten over time. “We aimed at going back to our roots and celebrating the way our ancestors did. Earlier, the procession would start from the church and go around the boundaries of the village. It included a brass band and flag carriers, and the whole village would join in with mock guns, which have been discontinued due to accidents. Over time, Bonderam started changing because of western influence. So, we aimed to recreate the olden times,” says Marius. The two-hour-long pasoi, or walk, was attended by people from all over. “Apart from food, some of the houses offered to show their skills like playing the saxophone and so on. Over 60 students of Don Bosco College joined us to perform traditional music. We also organised the Bonderachem Jevonn for them before the pasoi commenced,” says Marius. The pasoi, which was introduced on a trial basis last year, has seen a great response this year and will be a regular feature of Bonderam. Viraj Naik from Vasco, who frequently visits Divar and was at Bonderam and Bonderachi Pasoi, says, “It’s great to witness this festival because they are trying to maintain the cultural aspects of Goa. It also helps tourism in a positive way. It’s not commercial and brings out the traditions and heritage of Goa in the truest form. It also signifies unity, as all the villagers come together as niz goenkars do. The pasoi focused on the traditional sweets and highlighted the ghumot, which was indeed great.” Float parade, kattodio and more Tourists and Goans also gathered to take part in Kattodio — the traditional coconut-smashing competition. Everyone including the Goa police and firefighters were encouraged to participate. It was followed by a fancydress competition and very soon Johnny B Gud with Bushka took the stage to entertain the crowd with foot-tapping Konkani numbers. The band Double R also performed some Goan favourites. The float parade organised by the St Mathias Sports and Cultural Club was a grand event, with members of all four wards — Belsur, Amboi, Goddar and Church — taking part with their own floats, musicians and dancers. The floats depicted traditional occupation and village life and took the crowd down memory lane. People from Belsur ward had a float portraying lives of fisherfolks. With a strength of over 70 people, they had people dressed in different costumes. “Fishing is a traditional occupation on Divar island. But now, not many are dependent on fishing or agriculture anymore. Through this float, we aim to portray the times gone by and hope that it’s revived soon,” says Salu de Madar, a tiatrist who was a part of the float. “We’ve been taking part in Bonderam ever since we learnt to walk,” says Salome Pereira, who was a part of the float. Katia Heredia adds, “There are 70 people in our float and it includes people of all ages. We practice for two weeks or so, and everyone starts showing up only closer to the date of Bonderam.” The group were the winners of the float parade. Alex Vaz from Goddar, who was there with their float depicting traditional workmen like the toddy tapper, poder and so on, says, “I have been taking part with my brother for a very long time. We make it a point to organise the float each year. We are around 40 people in the float and the dancers are practising for two weeks now. The float was made within a couple of days.” Look who rocked Goa last weekend! Nikhil Chinapa dazzled the crowd with house music on Saturday night as hundreds gathered in Vagator for the Satellite Beachside Festival. Chinapa who also hosted the party was seen mingling with the crowd and making them dance to his tunes. The long weekend and a stellar line-up of DJs sure did pull the crowd in, but it was Chinapa at the console who got them grooving! Apart from Chinapa, the threeday Satellite Beachside Festival featured popular International DJs Nick Muir (UK), Modeplex (GER), Tuhin Mehta, Armando and others. Music lovers were seen with high energy levels and showed no sign of slowing down as the party went on till wee hours in morning on each night. “Satellite Beachside was a banger. My favourite was Tuhin Mehta on the last day, his drops were mental, and he lifted spirits all through his set. What a techno god! A big shout out to Nikhil Chinapa for bringing together Satellite!” said Arathe Rajeev, one of the party goers. The rad festival was jampacked with people making their way to the venue to enjoy the vibes while sipping on drinks, grooving and jumping to the beats of their favourite DJs. The three-day extravaganza was a treat for house and techno music fans.
