Visit Kaslo | Kaslo Guide 2019

Kaslo is surrounded by a vast mountain wilderness riven with rushing creeks and gorges, its centre of gravity the crystal clear depths of Kootenay Lake. Prospectors, lumbermen and speculators have come and gone and will be back; the adventurers stayed on. They’ve figured out, and perhaps you will too, that the real richness here is the freedom to be yourself, to explore. There are so many ways to do that, just read on. Have fun!

That’s
A Fact
Jack!
All times are Pacific (Balfour) time.
LAND AREA:
Kaslo occupies 3.9
square kilometres or
almost – but not quite
– one square mile on
the face of the earth.
Summer
LOWER KASLO VILLAGE
occupies the alluvial
fan or delta of the Kaslo
River, which empties into
Kootenay Lake. If you are
standing at the river mouth
and looking across the lake,
you will be looking at the
Purcell Mountain Range.
MOUNTAINS:
The most dramatic peak, snowtopped
for all but a few weeks
every year, is the mountain
named after the Norse god
Loki. The peak of Mt Loki at
2,771 metres (9,091 ft) is the
last one to glow with the rays of
the dying sun.
On the western shores of
Kootenay Lake, (Kaslo’s side),
rise the mountains of the Selkirk
mountain range. The Kaslo River
valley cuts through the Selkirks
between Kaslo and New Denver,
and is riddled with the remains
of mines and settlements of the
silver rush era.
