Visit Kaslo | Kaslo Guide 2019

Kaslo is surrounded by a vast mountain wilderness riven with rushing creeks and gorges, its centre of gravity the crystal clear depths of Kootenay Lake. Prospectors, lumbermen and speculators have come and gone and will be back; the adventurers stayed on. They’ve figured out, and perhaps you will too, that the real richness here is the freedom to be yourself, to explore. There are so many ways to do that, just read on. Have fun!

“The best days are spent fishing!”
Kootenay Lake has some of the best fishing
in Canada. You can fish by boat, kayak or
canoe with bucktail streamers on the surface
or plugs down deep. Or cast from shore with
spoons and jigs. There are three different
types of rainbows in Kootenay Lake: Mykiss,
Kamlooper and the world renowned Gerrard
rainbow with sizes ranging from 1 to
AINSWORTH MOTEL
The Kutenai...
“The sturgeon-nose canoe has been
with the Ktunaxa Nation since time
immemorial. Before the white man, with
their automobiles, these canoes were our
vehicles. The design is distinctive to the
Ktunaxa. The purpose of the design was
for the nose to part and glide through
the bulrushes in the valley’s delta. Its
unique nose shape was derived from
the sturgeon fish, commonly found
in the Kutenai lake and river.” These
canoes are still being made in the
traditional manner. Find out more at
