Visit Kaslo | Kaslo Guide 2019

Kaslo is surrounded by a vast mountain wilderness riven with rushing creeks and gorges, its centre of gravity the crystal clear depths of Kootenay Lake. They’ve figured out, and perhaps you will too, that the real richness here is the freedom to be yourself, to explore. There are so many ways to do that, just read on. Have fun! Wdbury Photo: R. Casey Jones Woodbury Whatever the season, there are plenty of good reasons to make the 10 minute drive from Kaslo to Woodbury. Woodbury is home to a thriving resort and marina and the well known Jones Boys Boats, who offer boat and ATV sales and service. The resort, open year round, is a natural playground right on the shore of Kootenay Lake. Woodbury Resort has everything: boat rentals, camping, a restaurant and pub, a convenience store with fishing tackle, chalet rentals, a recreation hall and an outdoor swimming pool. Twice a year, Terry Jones and his staff host popular fishing derbies. Many a fish story has become a Kootenay legend over a pint or two in the pub. Woodbury is also a gateway to Kokanee Glacier Park and the Silver Spray Cabin. In summer, you can access the park by driving up Woodbury Creek Forestry Road for 13 km to the trailhead. In the winter, it’s a deep snow paradise, perfect for sledding all day. You’ll have no problem negotiating and parking even the biggest of truck and trailer rigs at Woodbury Resort. When you’re done playing for the day, enjoy the good company and good food at JB’s. Two of your appetites satisfied, and how! Cody Cave Tours Total darkness. Underground waterfalls. Cascades. Calcite and sedimentary rock formations. Stalactites, stalagmites. Draperies. Climbing ropes and ladders. Ancient abandoned fossil passage. Galleries. Huge granite boulders. Dog leg passage. 40 foot rappel. Fragile conservancy section. The squeeze. John’s Crawl. Recently discovered passageway. Cave extension. Spectacular soda straw passage. Sound like an adventure for you? From May to September there are tours suited to all ages from 5 years up, lasting from 2 to 7 hours including the forest hike from the parking lot to the cave entrance. For the very active and adventurous there are now tours into Cody Cave during the winter. Winter access is via helicopter in and snowshoe out, or an overnight 18 km round trip snowshoe hike and cabin camping. On top of all the features inside the cave, you will marvel at the spectacular ice formations outside the entrance.
