Drive 6 km south of <strong>Kaslo</strong> on Hwy 31.<br />

Turn left on Fletcher Creek Frontage<br />

Road. Park and walk down to the trail<br />

that leads to the foot of a spectacular<br />

waterfall and moss lined grotto. There<br />

is a marine wilderness campground site<br />

for boaters and canoers.<br />

3. Paddling on Kootenay Lake<br />

The <strong>Kaslo</strong> Kayaking Adventure Centre<br />

is on <strong>Kaslo</strong>’s Front Street. Tours, rentals<br />

and lessons are offered and there is<br />

high quality outdoor gear for sale. Full<br />

day and 1/2 days tours can be booked.<br />

Lessons are offered for kayaking, stand<br />

up paddleboarding and windsurfing.<br />

Rent a kayak, canoe or a stand up paddleboard.<br />

You’ll love the Kootenays in a whole<br />

lake. Discover secluded coves, sandy<br />

beaches, and amazing nature hikes.<br />

The Joneses have lived on Kootenay<br />

Lake for generations, so when you go<br />

to rent a boat at Jones Boys Boats or at<br />

6. Valley of the Ghosts<br />

Walk in the footsteps of prospectors pectors<br />

from an era longtime gone.<br />

Many of the settlements that once<br />

housed thousands of miners have all but<br />

disappeared, but remnants of the frantic<br />

mining activity from a century ago are<br />

common, if sometimes a little hard to<br />

spot. The steep-sided valley follows<br />

the <strong>Kaslo</strong> River to its headwaters just<br />

past Retallack. This region surrounding<br />

Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park was/is<br />

also known as the Silvery Slocan. Superb<br />

destinations:<br />

A.The (near) ghost town of Sandon<br />

B. Idaho Peak (best mid to late summer)<br />

C. Old Growth Cedar Grove in Retallack<br />

D. Buchanan Lookout, a refurbished fire<br />

lookout tower<br />

7. Duncan Lake<br />

Howser’s Glayco Beach has a boat<br />

launch, wilderness camping, driftwood<br />

strewn beaches, and warm swimming.<br />

Glacier Creek Regional Park is across<br />

the lake. Campsite fees are $10/day,<br />

first come first served, 250-252-1510.<br />

8. Lardeau Valley<br />
