Take everything that is great about summer and add music – all kinds of music that will get you dancing in the sand. Kaslo Jazz Etc Summer Music Festival is very family friendly and always features truly exceptional talent. Mountains rising over 10,000 feet from the lake are the backdrop for the performers on the floating stage in Kaslo Bay. Experience craft demonstrations or discover local history, meet performers and writers, enjoy concerts and theatrical performances. Lardeau Valley Harvest Festival A great family event at the Lardeau Valley Community Centre in Meadow Creek, a 35 minute drive north of Kaslo. Traditions celebrated at the faire include old-fashioned races and competitions, and the art and skills of the farmer and small homesteader. There will be lots of vendors, live music and antique machinery demos. Bring your pocketbook and shop early for Christmas! Argenta Fall Faire Argenta is justly famous for the quality of its musicians. Enjoy live entertainment and food and craft vendors. Once it gets dark, the stage is set for the faire’s finale. Everyone gathers in a circle and, in the middle of a field, the stick monument is set afire. iDIDaRide & Run Each one of the five different trail pounding experiences of the iDIDaRide & Run will spark you to achieve your personal best. Three bike events, 40, 20 and 8 km, and two running, 20 and 8 km, will challenge and reward you. The world-class Kaslo and area trail network is so much fun, and surpassingly beautiful. From novice riders and runners to the most experienced athletes competing in the longer races, the exhilaration of the race will last longer than the day. Register at www. ididaride.ca Game of ‘Shinny’ at Winter in the Forest Festival Light Up The big bonfire is lit at the top of Front Street, the carolers are singing, and the minor hockey kids are slinging hot chocolate. All of this in downtown Kaslo after the Santa Claus procession up the dark wintry street, his passing triggering the illumination, one storefront after another, of twinkly and colourful displays of lights. Saturday, November 30. Kaslo Jamboree The annual K-Jam (on the weekend before Christmas) is old home week for the graduates of Kaslo’s storied Minor Hockey Association. They always have a lot of fun, they usually raise a bit of money for charity, and the players on the winning team get to hoist the coveted Colander Cup. Winter in the Forest Some unusual events in this free outdoor festival include human dogsled races, Swede sawing competition and the water boil race. Enjoy the sweet stickiness of maple taffy on the snow, and hot homemade foods. Or make your own bannock on a stick over the bonfire. Local musicians and storytellers will entertain you.
