WELCOME TO THE
BROOKSIDE THEATRE
Normally our Artistic Director - and my husband - Jai,
writes these but I thought I would take over this time as
the news I want to share with you is very personal to Jai.
For all of his tireless work to bring Romford’s its first ever
theatre as well as the relentless work he has undertaken
over the last 8 years to restore the War Memorial
buildings, Jai has been awarded the British Empire medal
by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. To say we are very
proud of this recognition is an understatement and it is so
well deserved. Since 2011, Jai has given up his time
completely voluntarily to restore these buildings to make
sure that the memories of those who made the ultimate
sacrifice are not forgotten. I am sure you will join all of us
here in congratulating Jai and we hope you will continue
to support his hard work by coming to see our shows.
We have some very exciting in-house productions coming
up including Sondheim’s ‘killer’ musical ASSASSINS this
Easter, HI-DE-HI live on stage in June, the heavenly hit
musical NUNSENSE in July, the family favourite OLIVER! in
September and the world premiere of THE ELEPHANT
MAN THE MUSICAL.
Following on from last year’s critically-acclaimed
production of A Christmas Carol, this coming festive
season we are proud to present PETER PAN, a musical
adaptation of the classic fairytale by J.M. Barrie.
We welcome back world renown psychic mediums, Derek
Acorah & Tony Stockwell as well as our old friend, Peter
Gill with two shows later in the year; MEET TOMMY
ATKINS and THE ROCK AND ROLL SHOWDOWN. New
shows to the theatre include BIN & GONE; the life story of
3-2-1’s Ted Rogers told by his son Danny as well as the
hilarious comedienne TanyaLee Davis with her stand-up
show, ACTUAL SIZE.
As always the theatre has a host of top tribute shows on
offer including THE ROD STEWART EXPERIENCE, THE
STEVIE WONDER SHOW and GIMME ABBA to name but a
few. We are also thrilled to welcome WHOLE LOTTA LED
and THE ROLLING CLONES for the first time to Romford.
As well as all the new shows, we are also delighted to be
starting an exciting new theatre academy for children
aged 3 to 16 later in the year as well as offering week-long
musical theatre workshops in the school holidays with
the first one being at the end of July!
“Stunning production
values and a great
new venue. Seriously
recommended.”
- Time Out
“By far the best
community
theatre in Essex.”
- Anita Bond, Director
“Great venue,
putting some of
the pride back
into Romford.”
- Audience Member
“A marvellous little
theatre in the heart
of Romford. We the
residents of Havering
should support this
little treasure.”
- Cllr. Melvin Wallace
“Cannot recommend
the theatre enough. If
only other theatres
were run with as
much care.”
- Pat Abernethy, Actor
“...easily meets West
End standards!”
- Hornchurch Life
“A real little gem in
the heart of Romford.”
- Lorna Waters, Time FM
“Cracking venue
with a committed
team, working hard
to make a great
local theatre.”
A BROOKSIDE THEATRE PRODUCTION
“Everybody’s got the right to be
happy.” But what if that means
assassinating the President of the
USA?
Winner of 5 Tony Awards, ASSASSINS
has been referred to as "the most
controversial musical ever written". A
surprisingly witty and moving
theatrical tour-de-force with
intelligently brilliant lyrics and
extraordinarily beautiful music.
Produced by the team that brought
you A Christmas Carol and Little Shop
Of Horrors, this dazzling production
gives new meaning to the phrase
"killer musical" as it delves into the
lives, loves and lunacy of nine people
who assassinated - or attempted to
assassinate - the most powerful man
on Earth, some with greater degrees
of success than others, but all sharing
in the desire to pull the trigger in the
twisted pursuit of that illusive
American Dream.
Generally dismissed as maniacs and
misfits, this group of murderers and
would-be killers have little in
common with each other, and
nothing in common with the rest of
us... or do they? Sondheim’s
signature blend of intelligently
stunning lyrics and beautiful music
combine to create a disturbingly dark
musical comedy not to be missed.
The show contains strong language and
mature themes that are not suitable for young
audiences.
