fullest extent. The precepts and principles of religion are <strong>the</strong> first steps in <strong>the</strong><br />

acquisition of knowledge, and lie at <strong>the</strong> very foundation of true education.<br />

Knowledge and science must be vitalized by <strong>the</strong> Spirit of God in order to<br />

serve <strong>the</strong> noblest purposes. The Christian alone can make <strong>the</strong> right use of<br />

knowledge. Science, in order to be fully appreciated, must be viewed from a<br />

religious standpoint. The heart which is ennobled by <strong>the</strong> grace of God can<br />

best comprehend <strong>the</strong> real value of education. The attributes of God, as seen<br />

in His created works, can be appreciated only as we have a knowledge of <strong>the</strong><br />

Creator. In order to lead <strong>the</strong> youth to <strong>the</strong> fountain of truth, to <strong>the</strong> Lamb of<br />

God who taketh away <strong>the</strong> sins of <strong>the</strong> world, <strong>the</strong> teachers must not only be<br />

acquainted with <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ory of <strong>the</strong> truth, but must have an experimental<br />

knowledge of <strong>the</strong> way of holiness. Knowledge is power when united with<br />

true piety.<br />

Student's Responsibility to Uphold His School<br />

Those students who profess to love God and obey <strong>the</strong> truth should<br />

possess that degree of self-control and strength of religious principle that will<br />

enable <strong>the</strong>m to remain unmoved amid temptations and to stand up <strong>for</strong> Jesus<br />

in <strong>the</strong> college, at <strong>the</strong>ir boardinghouses, or wherever <strong>the</strong>y may be. Religion is<br />

not to be worn merely as a cloak in <strong>the</strong> house of God, but religious principle<br />

must characterize <strong>the</strong> entire life.<br />

Those who are drinking at <strong>the</strong> fountain of life will not, like <strong>the</strong><br />

worldling, manifest a longing desire <strong>for</strong> change and pleasure. In <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

deportment and character will be seen <strong>the</strong> rest and peace and happiness that<br />

<strong>the</strong>y have found in Jesus by daily laying <strong>the</strong>ir perplexities and burdens at His<br />

feet. They will show that <strong>the</strong>re is contentment and even joy in <strong>the</strong> path of<br />

obedience and duty. Such will exert an influence over <strong>the</strong>ir fellow students<br />

which will tell upon <strong>the</strong> entire school.<br />

Those who compose this faithful army will refresh and streng<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong><br />
