Ovarian Teratoma
(Left) Ultrasound shows that
there are 2 Rokitansky
nodules st within the
otherwise cystic-appearing fat
of this dermoid. (Right) Color
Doppler ultrasound shows
that depending on the
semisolid vs. liquid state of the
fat within a dermoid, a fatfluid
level may be present.
Diagnoses: Female Pelvis
(Left) Transvaginal ultrasound
shows that dermoids can
appear atypical on ultrasound
when there is more soft tissue
than fat within the mass. This
dermoid is heterogeneously
echogenic and fills the cul-desac
ſt posterior to the uterus
. (Right) Axial CECT of the
same mass shows there is
relatively little fat st, with a
predominance of soft tissue
creating the appearance on
ultrasound.
(Left) On T1 MR, dermoids
have internal high signal that
is consistent with fat .
(Right) Axial CECT of the same
dermoid shows the calcified
tooth , which is present in
about 1/3 of cases. Notice the
fat ſt within the dermoid is
markedly hypodense
compared to normal
extraperitoneal fat .
