Mucinous Ovarian Cystadenoma/Carcinoma
(Left) Septations ſt and
diffuse low-level echoes are
typical of mucinous
cystadenomas. Transvaginal
longitudinal Doppler
ultrasound shows vascularity
in the septations, and
streaming artifact due to
the mobile mucin. (Right)
Within the locules of this
mucinous cystadenoma,
varying degrees of low-level
echoes reflect differing
concentrations of mucin ſt on
transabdominal ultrasound.
Diagnoses: Female Pelvis
(Left) A single thin-walled
loculation is present in this
cystic ovarian mass. Relatively
few internal echoes are
present in either compartment
as seen on transvaginal
ultrasound. (Right) CECT
shows the full extent of the
ovarian mass, which extends
out of the pelvis and into the
midabdomen. A large ovarian
mass in a peri- or
postmenopausal patient is the
typical presentation for
mucinous cystadenoma.
(Left) Acellular mucin is
present within a mucinous
cystadenoma, and the lining
cells have abundant mucinous
cytoplasm . (Right) Solid
vascular components ſt are
suggestive of mucinous
cystadenocarcinoma on
transvaginal ultrasound.
