Uterine Anomalies
(Left) 3D ultrasound with
coronal MIP rendering
showing a large wedge of
myometrium separating
the 2 endometrial cavities.
Inferiorly is a thin hypoechoic
fibrous continuation of the
septum . The convex outer
uterine contour ſt is
maintained in this septate
uterus. (Right) Transverse
oblique ultrasound obtained
coronal to the uterus shows
the stem of an IUD ſt
projecting into the left
endometrium. The outer
contour is only minimally
indented in this septate
uterus.
Diagnoses: Female Pelvis
(Left) Graphic of a bicornuate
uterus demonstrates a deep
external fundal cleft ſt and 2
symmetric cornua that are
fused inferiorly. (Right)
Transverse transvaginal
ultrasound shows 2 widely
separated endometrial cavities
ſt. The outer contour of the
uterus appears indented
anteriorly and posteriorly ,
suggesting a bicornuate
uterus; however, the fundus
could not be adequately
evaluated.
(Left) Coronal T2 MR image in
the same patient confirms a
fundal indentation ſt and
wide separation of the
endometrial cavities > 110° as
well as 2 cervices in this
patient with bicornuate
bicollis uterus. Fibroids and
nabothian cysts are also
present. (Right) Transverse
transabdominal ultrasound
shows wide separation of
the uterine horns with a 9-
week pregnancy in the left
horn ſt and endometrial
thickening in the right horn
st. There was a single cervix
(not shown) confirming a
bicornuate unicollis uterus.
