Epididymitis/Orchitis
(Left) Sagittal color Doppler
US image of the right testis in
a young man with acute
scrotal pain shows an
enlarged testis with diffuse
hyperemia , which is a
typical appearance for acute
orchitis. In addition, this
patient has a complex
hydrocele and overlying
skin thickening . (Right)
Side-by-side color Doppler
image of the testicles
bilaterally shows the left
testicle is markedly hyperemic
ſt in comparison to the right,
consistent with left-sided
orchitis.
Diagnoses: Scrotum
(Left) Color Doppler reveals a
round focal hypoechoic region
within the right testicle with
increased vascularity .
Normal testicular parenchyma
can be seen adjacent to this
area . This was a case of
focal orchitis. (Right) Color
Doppler of bilateral testes
demonstrates heterogenous
echogenicity and decreased
vascularity within the left
testicle consistent with
testicular infarction. This was
the sequela of venous
thrombosis secondary to
orchitis.
(Left) Color Doppler of the left
epididymis reveals a markedly
hyperemic tail with a
heterogenous hypoechoic
lesion centrally . The
findings are consistent with
epididymitis complicated by an
epididymal abscess. (Right)
Color Doppler of the left testis
in a patient who presented
with acute epididymo-orchitis
reveals a hypoechoic, thickwalled
lesion within the
testicle consistent with a
testicular abscess.
