Tuberculosis, Urinary Tract
(Left) Longitudinal highresolution
ultrasound shows
gross mucosal thickening st in
the collecting system of a
patient with fulminant renal
TB. The appearance may
mimic pyonephrosis or
neoplasm. (Right) Longitudinal
transabdominal ultrasound
shows renal TB with papillary
involvement. Echogenic
nonshadowing lesions ſt
surrounded by fluid in renal
medulla suggest papillary
necrosis.
Diagnoses: Urinary Tract
(Left) Transverse
transabdominal ultrasound
shows an enlarged, paraaortic
lymph node ſt in a patient
with renal TB. Associated
lymphadenopathy is common
and may be either reactive or
infective. (Right) Transverse
transabdominal ultrasound
shows TB of the bladder with
an irregularly thickened
bladder wall ſt. Its
appearance may be
indistinguishable from other
forms of bacterial cystitis.
(Left) Transverse oblique
transabdominal ultrasound of
the bladder in this patient
with known GU tuberculosis
shows diffuse wall thickening
with mucosal irregularity
st and echogenicity, likely
calcification . (Right)
Longitudinal transabdominal
ultrasound shows a urinary
bladder infected by TB. There
is irregular mucosal thickening
near the ureteric orifice ſt,
which is the earliest site for
onset of disease.
