Ureteral Ectopia
(Left) Coronal T2 HASTE MR
provides a more
comprehensive overview of
the duplicated left kidney with
an obstructed atrophic upper
pole moiety . The tortuous
dilated ureter st inserts into
the vagina ſt. The ureter was
thick, secondary to infection.
(Right) Axial T1 C+ FS shows
the ectopic insertion of the
left upper ureter st into the
vagina ſt. Increased
enhancement of the ureteral
wall and surrounding tissue
are secondary to infection.
Diagnoses: Urinary Tract
(Left) Longitudinal ultrasound
of a duplex left kidney shows
dysplastic cystic change in the
upper moiety ſt. (Right)
Transverse ultrasound of the
bladder shows a dilated left
ureter st from a duplex left
kidney that is terminating as a
large ureterocele ſt.
(Left) Transvaginal ultrasound
shows a thick-walled infected
ectopic ureter st with internal
debris next to a normal left
ovary ſt. This may be
mistaken for a pyosalpinx, but
the configuration and course
of the ureter are different.
(Right) Coronal T2 HASTE MR
shows a dilated left ureter ſt
inserting below the bladder
neck into the vagina st. The
upper pole moiety of this
duplicated system was
severely dilated. The bladder
was normal.
