Acute Pancreatitis
(Left) Transverse abdominal
ultrasound demonstrates a
heterogeneous, hypoechoic
pancreas ſt consistent with
IEP. Peripancreatic hypoechoic
fluid consistent with APFC
is present anterior to the
pancreatic body. (Right)
Transverse CECT in the same
patient demonstrates a
heterogeneous,
hypoenhancing pancreas ſt
consistent with acute IEP.
Peripancreatic edema
surrounds the pancreatic body,
and there is an APFC at the
tail .
Diagnoses: Pancreas
(Left) Transverse midline
ultrasound shows a
heterogeneous collection in
the pancreatic bed ſt
containing nonliquefied
components , indicating
pancreatic and peripancreatic
necrosis. (Right) Transverse
CECT in the same patient
shows complete lack of
enhancement of the body and
tail ſt of the pancreas,
consistent with NP. There is
peripancreatic fluid with
nonliquefied components ,
consistent with peripancreatic
necrosis and acute necrotic
collection (ANC).
(Left) Transverse ultrasound
shows an enlarged,
hypoechoic pancreas ſt
consistent with acute
pancreatitis. There is a fluid
collection anterior to the
gland. The presence and
extent of necrosis is not
readily evident. (Right)
Transverse CECT in the same
patient reveals absence of
enhancement in the majority
of the gland , consistent
with necrosis, with residual
viable tissue in the tail ſt. The
anterior border of the
pancreas is barely
distinguishable from the
anterior ANC .
