Extratesticular Cystic Mass
Varicocele
Varicocele
(Left) Longitudinal ultrasound
shows multiple serpiginous,
dilated vessels , just
cephalad to the testis ſt.
(Right) Color Doppler
ultrasound in the same patient
shows flow within these
vessels. The scan was
performed during a Valsalva
maneuver, which caused
retrograde filling due to
incompetent valves.
Differential Diagnoses: Scrotum
Epididymal Cyst
Acute Hematocele
(Left) Subcentimeter
epididymal head cysts st are
often incidentally detected or
may be palpable as a painless
mass. (Right) Color Doppler
ultrasound of the scrotum
shows an avascular, complex,
extratesticular fluid collection
in a man who recently had
a vasectomy. The hematoma
resolved on follow-up studies.
Tunica Albuginea Cyst
Epididymal or Scrotal Wall Abscess
(Left) Longitudinal ultrasound
shows a small, well-defined,
anechoic cyst ſt along the
periphery of the testis, classic
appearance of a tunica
albuginea cyst. (Right)
Complex cystic collection
within the epididymis is
compatible with abscess in
this patient with a history of
several months of epididymitis
poorly responsive to
antibiotics.
