Cystic Peritoneal Mass
Differential Diagnoses:
Abdominal Wall/Peritoneal Cavity
(Left) Transverse ultrasound of
the pelvis post renal
transplant shows a complex
fluid collection with multiple
internal septa of varying
thickness st. Avascular clot is
also noted ſt in this
organizing hematoma. (Right)
Longitudinal ultrasound of
peritonitis secondary to a
perforated gastric ulcer in
patient with cirrhosis. The
omental fat st is echogenic
and inflamed. There are septa
in the ascites ſt.
Organizing Hematoma
Complicated Ascites
(Left) Transverse color
Doppler ultrasound of the
upper abdomen shows a
unilocular pancreatic
pseudocyst ſt with avascular
dependent debris . There is
reverberation artifact st in
the near field. (Right)
Transverse pelvic ultrasound in
patient with diffuse
metastatic disease and
elevated CA125 shows a cystic
mass st with lobulated solid
components ſt and ascites
. Biopsy of an inguinal node
showed poorly differentiated
adenocarcinoma.
Pancreatic Pseudocyst
Cystic Ovarian Masses
(Left) Transverse ultrasound
shows a very large, unilocular,
thin-walled paraovarian cyst
ſt in the central abdomen.
Due to its size, the origin could
not be determined but the
ovaries were normal. Note the
aorta . (Right) Longitudinal
ultrasound of pelvic peritoneal
inclusion cysts shows large
fluid collections st with
intervening septa
conforming to the peritoneal
cavity and surrounding the
uterus ſt. The ovaries were
normal. The fluid was drained
successfully.
