Type: Sand<br />
A wide expanse of sand in a relatively uncommercialised<br />
seaside resort. Best enjoyed by dog owners out of season<br />
– wrap up warm, pick up some fish & chips and enjoy!<br />

Type: Sand<br />
A gorgeous beach with a pine forest backdrop. A section<br />
is reserved for families during the summer but there’s still<br />
plenty of space for dogs to run around lead free and<br />
splash in the sea. Check out the Beach Café which has a<br />
station for washing mucky paws, water and treats.<br />
West Runton<br />
Restrictions: Dog friendly year round<br />
Type: Sand and stone<br />
From here, you can walk to both East Runton and<br />
Cromer. It’s a lovely walk backed by rugged cliffs,<br />
and you might even find a fossil or two! Be aware of<br />
incoming tides, as parts of the beach get cut off.<br />
Leigh on Sea – Leigh Bell Wharf Beach<br />
Restrictions: Summer ban from 1 May to 30 September<br />
Type: Sand<br />
A small sandy beach located at the end of Old Leigh,<br />
home to cockle sheds, cute cafes and pubs with views<br />
of the estuary. Though there is a ban during summer,<br />
the cobbled streets and amenities can still be enjoyed<br />
with dogs on lead.<br />
Shoeburyness<br />
Restrictions: Seasonal ban applies, but there is a dog<br />
exercise area<br />
Type: Sand and shingle<br />
Despite being walking distance from busy Southend,<br />
the beach is relatively quiet but is best enjoyed by dog<br />
walkers out of season.<br />

Brightlingsea<br />
Restrictions: Summer ban from 1 May to 30 September<br />
Type: Sand<br />
A stretch of sand backed by colourful beach huts with<br />
plenty of amenities. It’s a popular yachting destination.<br />
The facilities can still be enjoyed during the summer<br />
with dogs kept on lead and off the beach.<br />
Canvey Island<br />
Restrictions: Summer ban on main beach from 30<br />
April to 1 October, however the paddling pool area<br />
bans dogs at all times<br />
Type: Sand and shingle<br />
A small seaside resort with walks along the sea wall.<br />
Walk towards Thorney Bay which is much more dog<br />
friendly with a grass area and park for children.<br />
Walton-on-the-Naze<br />
Restrictions: Summer ban from 1 May to 30 September<br />
Type: Sand<br />
Home to the second longest pier in the UK, the summer<br />
ban comes in to play in the main resort area but walk<br />
a few miles further north and you’ll find a quieter area,<br />
which allows dogs, however always check before<br />
letting your dog off the lead.<br />
West Mersea<br />

Type: Sand and shingle<br />
Overlooking the Blackwater Estuary, the beach has<br />
character and charm, great for lazy days on the coast.<br />
Colourful beach huts, seafood shacks, crabbing on<br />
the jetty and dog-friendly boat trips, there’s something<br />
for the whole family to enjoy.<br />
