SPECIAL EDITION

The From
Training
Director
This is a special edition of our management magazine
The LIGHT. The LIGHT stands for
Lead—Inspire—Grow—Help—Train.
I'm dedicating this issue to all employees at GSC. I have
been able to travel to every region and see the positive
growth and change within the company. Most people want
to work for a great company; it all starts with you being
great as an individual. In the following pages you will see
the faces that help make our company shine.
My heart is to inspire you to work on self-growth and
improve your team dynamics. When you win, we win!
Be Great,

Coming together
is the beginning.
Keeping together
is progress.
Working together
is success.
-Henry Ford

So what is CORE?
It's our new leadership
initiative for those who
oversee great people.
How does it work?
There are six standards.
Each standard contains
competencies that support
and define the standard.
4 Communication Styles
Read each phrase and check the one word that best describes you. Then add the check marks in each of the four
columns. Under the total section, you’ll find the scoring key. The column with the most check marks is your
dominant communication style. Having three or four checks in all four styles may indicate that you have an easier
time than most of us communicating with all kinds of people.
Listener
Believe there is more than one method for
producing the same results
Can be slow decision makers
Focus on relationships rather than
tasks/outcomes
When given the freedom, listeners like to
prove themselves, so be more casual and
personal with them
Can be submissive or indecisive
Have the most conflict with Doers
Doer
Assertive, results-oriented, competitive,
time conscious and competent
Excellent problem solvers, short- range
thinkers that act without planning or
reflection
Highly verbal, abrupt, or even a bad listener
Need to work on listening more to others
Have the most conflict with Listeners
Creator
Enthusiastic, excited and driven people
They are idea people but fail to act on their
great ideas
Dislike routines
Enjoy fast-paced conversations and want
their ideas to be recognized
Need to work on slowing down and
understand other's interests
Have the most conflict with Thinkers
Thinker
Detail- oriented people
Feel at home with rules and predictability
Slow and deliberative in making decisions
Logical and analytical
Need to show less need for endless detail,
take more risks, show more personal
concern for others
Have the most conflict with Creators

Housing
Fair
On March 14th, several of GSC employees
participated in the VCU Housing Fair. In an
effort to put Virginia back in the student
housing market. Morgan Ellis took the lead
and put together a very successful
presentation. GSC walked away with over
200 really great leads! A huge shout out to
Morgan Ellis, Elienai Vegas, Desmond Frye
and Ginny Miles. They spoke to well over
400 students about “living your best life” at
GSC properties. GSC definitely has an
amazing group of people!
The Spotlight
In this special edition of the Light we'd like to
spotlight Letty Bizarro, Property Manager at
Woodcreek apartments in Georgia.
Letty has been in the industry for 26 years and
has 12 years of experience as a Property
Manager. Letty attributes her success to advice
given by her mentor “to lead by example.” She
has learned the value of treating others how she
wants to be treated. She cares and places herself
in the residents shoes and trains her employees
to do the same.
Recently the community experienced a serious fire. She was off that Friday
and at 8:00 am, one of the apartment buildings went up in flames. The families
impacted had lived at Woodcreek for awhile, so it was devastating for the
residents in the ten apartments to see so many items lost.
Anna Cham and the rest of the staff stepped up in Letty's absence. They
handled the situation beautifully and were an emotional support for those
residents. The maintenance team was quick and got everything under control.
"It was a team effort. Their commitment was incredible. Anna has been with us
for 3 years but knew exactly what to do. She called the authorities and
Regional Property Manager, David Spangler." Letty felt that Anna really
proved herself during this incident.
Woodcreek's main priority was to take care of their customers. The leasing
staff made sure that they had apartments available; so the residents knew
where they would be by the end of the day.
Letty’s happy that her team was there that day. Everyone was supportive and
knew what to do.
“I have a wonderful team and I’m so thankful.”
Letty Bizarro

Enclosed on the next few pages are the fantastic teams
that make GSC such an amazing place to work.
A great company is
simply made up of
great people.
