HERE COMES FRUIT
Feast of the East
IT’S TIME AGAIN FOR THE ANNUAL SEASON OF TROPICAL FRUITS.
THAILAND’S EASTERN PROVINCES OF RAYONG, CHANTHABURI AND TRAT ARE
ALIVE WITH FRUIT GALORE SUCH AS DURIANS, RAMBUTANS, MANGOSTEENS AND
RAYONG
Community-based tourism has become active
along the Pra Sae River which is flanked by small
villages, rubber plantations and orchards. Visitors can
pick and taste fresh mangosteens at the orchard of
Charit Namsanit and continue to Ban Chamrung community
in Klaeng District where several orchards are located.
A variety of durians are available at the orchards.
It is recommended that visitors inform orchard
owners in advance on the kinds of fruit they prefer.
The owners are happy to prepare specific fruits to
serve you.
CHANTHABURI
Tropical fruits in Chanthaburi are recognised for
their outstanding taste. An agri group, known as Rath
Thai, is an assembly of 9 organic orchards in Pathavee
community, Makham District. Rath Thai farmers have
rejected chemicals and adopted organic farming
including the conservation of stingless bees which,
besides storing aromatic honey, play a role in plant
breeding.
A tour of orchards in Pathavee community offers a
first-hand experience on organic farming and beekeeping.
You can definitely taste organic fruits such as durians,
mangosteens and rambutans at the orchards.
TRAT
A beach town on Thailand’s east coast, Trat is rich with
mountains and rivers which enable the cultivation of fruits,
rubber and paddy. Several organic orchards are open for
all-you-can-eat fruits. One of Trat’s signature fruits is the
year-round “gold pineapple.” Salak (Salacca zalacca)
is also grown in this province while a few orchards in
Koh Chang are best for chanee durian thanks to the island’s
mineral-rich soil.
