BREAKING BAD
It is known that Breaking Bad is one of the most TV series ever. I watched 4 years
ago and I can testify it is true. However, this year I took the decision to rewatch it in
English.
Honestly, I couldn’t do it. Probably, one of the reasons was slang vocabulary that it is
used by the characters. Moreover US pronunciation makes me problems to
understand the conversations between them.
However, I will give it other opportunity this summer.
GOLIATH
This case is similar to Breaking Bad, slang
vocabulary and US accent. In addition, this serie
which plot is about a lawyer who wants to win a case
against a firm of lawyers, use technical terms.
new one.
Even though this difficulties I have carried on
watching it because the plot is attractive. If I am not
wrong it is being recorded the third season
currently, so we have to wait a little to watch the
By the way, you can only find it on Prime Video of Amazon.
THE GRAND TOUR
Every year I add that
program in my art
dossier. I really like it
because they talk
about cars and use
British humour. Ok,
maybe you are not a
car lover but is a
must view for the
conversations.
THE DAWN WALL
This year I have discovered a new hobby which I have never thought that I would
like. Climbing make me feel different sensations and I would recommend for
reducing stress. In addition, if you practice climbing outdoor you will visit beautiful
places that are conditioned for climbing.
This previous speech is necessary to talk about
The Dawn Wall, a documentary about a couple
of guys who spend nineteen days to complete
the climbing of El Capitán. El Capitán is a
rock that is located in Yosemite National Park
(California) and it is one of the favorites
challenges of the climbers.
This documentary tells the life of one of these guys and the climb. This true story
was broadcast by US television and was followed by lots of viewers.
Workshops with James
A London guy was teaching in our EOI
roughly for a month. His name is James O.
Allen he is a painter and he organised
different workshop related to art. Although
the schedule of these activities wasn’t
compatible with my job journey I managed to
assist two of them.
The first one was to make a movie poster. In
the Sala Gran of the school there were hung
some movie poster because cinema is the topic which the EOI has been chosen for
this year.
First of all we were discussing about what was our
favorite one and what was the worst. Then, having done
that we took a laptop and we started to redesign the
poster that we didn’t like. Changing the picture or
choosing another colour for the typo were the
modifications that we did it.
The second activity was done in Museu Nacional de Catalunya. This museum is
known as MNAC and it is located in Montjuic Hill. The visit was only made in the
Modernism section. The procedure was the same that the first workshop, we have to
discuss with a mate what was our favorite painting and expose our reasons. After
5-10 minutes debating about painting, James give us some information about
technique or skills which the painter used to do that.
This workshop was interesting because I have
never been in MNAC and I wanted to visit for a
while. In addition, I thought to do a visit which our
guide is a painter and he is from London was a
good combination, wasn’t it?
In both workshops make a movie poster and the visit of the museum we had to use
the grammar for debating. I would like to express my gratitude for these kind of
activities because are useful for us.
LONDON
Last week I have been in London for 4 days with a my friend Rubén who is a lover
London like me. Our idea about this trip was flow and enjoy because both we had
already been there.
1st day
We arrived to London and we could leave the baggage in the apartment, which was
in Paddington, before check-in hour. After that we walk through that borough
where we found some mews. A mew is a traditional british street where are old
houses. With some pictures taken, we went to Hyde Park where the weather changed
and started to rain, a normal day in London, isn’t it? We continue to Harrods but
have lunch time was coming, so we decided to have lunch in a Japanese restaurant in
Soho. When we finished to fill our stomachs we came back to the apartment because
at 19:30h we had a date with Simba, Scar, Pumba… yes!!!! We were going to watch
The Lion King Musical.
This experience was awesome, we are two enthusiast boys of all related about music.
First minutes I had problems to understand some character but whenever the
function was advancing my capacity too.
2nd day
We woke up early, roughly at 7:30h. We put our trainers and we were running
through Hyde Park. Almost we completed a whole lap, but I think 7 km is not a bad
distance. This day after practised sport, we had a good breakfast and we went to
Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. We cross Thames river and I took my
friend to Banksy tunnel, a street where you can find a lot of grafittis and where there
are some of Banksy, by the way, we didn’t see them.
After this incredible place we had lunch and we went to the one of my favorite places
of London, The City. This financial borough is a perfect place to walk while the
workers are finishing theirs journeys. We decided to have a pint in a crowded pub in
Leadenhall market. Taking advantage to we were there we went to “The Walkie
Talkie” and we went up to the top floor to enjoy of this views.
3rd day
We were arriving to the end of our trip and we haven’t already gone to Candem
Town!! Today was the day, but firstly we visited the British Museum and we admired
Rosetta stone, the “tool” for understanding hieroglyphs. Ah, we visited the
Rembrandt exhibition too. I cannot understand who a person are able to make this
drawings with lines.
After some culture consumed, we walked to Candem Town. I guess this doesn’t need
none explanation, Candem is Candem and you have to walk through their streets to
feel the atmosphere. Afterward we came back to the apartment because was Friday
night and we wanted to have dinner in a Ryu Ramen, so we started to walk and we
crossed Regent’s Park. In my first visit to London I didn’t visit this park, and after
done it, I say this park is my favorite one of London, more than Hyde Park or St.
Jame’s Park.
As I said before, we had dinner in a Ryu ramen, my first time with this dish. Always I
had been opposed to try this type of dishes but I liked it so much. We ended the
night having some pints and laughing.
Last day: Feeling a big depression last day we visited Portobello market. After that
we decided to get the metro for visiting some places that we wanted to visit if we had
enough time. Some of these places were:
·Natural History Museum
·Temple Church (here is the organ with Hans Zimmer recorded Interstellar
BSO)
Finally we crossed Hyde park last time and we went to the airport to take the plane
which was delayed 30 minutes.
BY THE WAY, I use my speaking but not only with local people but with my friend!
We spoke in English each other most of the time that we were there.
INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS
It’s known that the ways to learn something new has grown up thanks Internet. As a
student, we have to know all of these ways or unless many of them. Probably, in last
few years a lot of people has started to learn a new language thanks to apps.
However, this way to learn is not useful to myself. Connecting everyday or the
method are not attractives reasons for using this type of apps. Whereas, on
Instagram exists many accounts which are focus on the learning of English in that
case. For example:
