My final year dissertation which explored a symbolic edifice in Manila, built by the National Artist for Architecture as per request of the former First Lady of the Philippines. fig. 2.3 Land use of plan , 1995 The site The original site proposal consisted of various pedestrian and vehicular roads and a lot of manmade tropical landscaping to equal out the amount of area where they are building massive volumes of concrete buildings. Today, the complex lost almost 60 percent of landscaping due to it becoming more commercialised as tourist attraction and has become an interest for commercial development. It is still the same but land area reclaimed has tripled in the next 40 years. A lot of buildings were then added to the south of the complex like the Manila Film Centre, World Trade Centre Metro Manila, Philippine National Bank, Union Bank of the Philippines, Government Security Insurance System (GSIS) Complex, spas, a kart track, a crocodile park, a commercial building plaza and Dampa (seaside) – a compound filled with seafood restaurants. !20
