History of the location In South East Asia, the Philippines is a tropical country made of more than 7000 islands and known for its territory being surrounded by water. The CCP site was originally enclosed by Manila bay on all three sides (north, west, south) but as a part of drastic infrastructure development, an extended reclamation was done on its south. It was originally built on 71 percent of the said 88-hectare of landfill from the northern shoreline of Manila bay that is connected to the South China Sea. Before the land reclamation, Manila Bay served important roles in socio-economic, political and historical development of the central capital. Strategically positioned on the west of the city, it operated as a natural harbour for the Port of Manila, which facilitated trade and commerce for the Philippines and its neighbouring countries. The bay also attested to the naval battle of the 1898 American-Spanish war that ended the 300-year Spanish colonial period of the Philippines. !18
