SCHOOL
The most distinctive aspect of a Giggleswick education is its real focus on
personal development and participation. The School is exceptionally good at
discovering and developing individuals’ strengths, nurturing the whole person
with a breadth of educational opportunities and activities, and a ‘can do’
philosophy encouraged by a close and supportive community. Giggleswick is a
values-driven community and places a strong emphasis on participation,
ambition and respect, encouraging all to be creative, aspirational and resilient
whilst looking firmly to the outside world. The Giggleswick Learner profile
defines the character the School encourages in its pupils to give them the very
best opportunities beyond school.
Academic Excellence
Academic standards are high, with the Giggleswick Learner being encouraged
to aspire beyond his or her immediate horizons in all areas. Pupils achieve
some 70% A*-B grades at A level and over 60% of pupils progress to
Russell/1994 Group Universities, the most senior and prestigious
establishments within UK tertiary education. Teaching staff live on, or close to
the Giggleswick campus, ensuring a personal approach to classroom learning
from Early Years right through to GCSE and A Level, and a spirit of investigative
research is nurtured through the School’s participation in the Extended Project
Qualification, where outstanding results are obtained year on year.
Participation, Ambition and Respect
While the School always encourages its pupils to be ambitious with their
academic outcomes, it also recognises that an education that is based on
breadth helps build character. All pupils participate in Giggleswick’s extensive
sporting programme, with the best achieving national and international
standards and each, irrespective of ability, growing in confidence through the
opportunity to participate.
