Calling All Kids!
Spady Museum
Opens Registration
For Summer
Camp And New
Afterschool
Program
New Summer Camp programs include
off-site and on-site field trips exploring
science, art, and youth culture
At the end of most summer camp experiences,
kids can say they had a good
time – visiting local attractions, playing at
the pool and making new friends. But at
the end the 2019 summer camp planned
at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum,
youth will be able to say they are published
authors and provide the book that
illustrates their creativity.
Registration is currently open for the
2019 Summer Camp, which is from 9am-
6pm, Monday-Friday, June 3 to August 9 at
the museum, 170 NW 5th Avenue, Delray
Beach. Cost is $145 per student, per week,
plus a one-time, non-refundable $25 registration
fee.
Camp leaders will weave into the daily
camp fun a publishing journey for each
camper. They will work individually and
collectively on an anthology book, which
will be printed and distributed to each
child. The camp curriculum will teach writing,
art, and production with activities that
build creativity and critical thinking.
Fun field trips will include excursions
to the Delray Beach Playhouse, where
campers can enjoy live, local theatre and
learn about backstage production; and
to the South Florida Science Museum,
which features a planetarium, interactive
exhibits and a nearby zoo. On-site at the
Spady Museum, campers will experience
TurtleFest 2019: Celebrating
Oceans of Opportunity
Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s TurtleFest 2019: Celebrating
Oceans of Opportunity, now in its 16th year, welcomed
more guests than ever before to Loggerhead Park in Juno Beach
on Saturday, March 23.
As the Center has grown over the years, so has this freeadmission,
ocean conservation themed family-friendly event.
This year, TurtleFest – Palm Beach County’s largest ocean conservation
festival – had record-breaking attendance, with a 26
percent increase in visitors.
Guests enjoyed great live entertainment by Spred The Dub,
Making Faces, Fireside Prophets, Andrew Morris Band, the
Performing Arts Academy of Jupiter, and more, as well as upclose
encounters with threatened and endangered sea turtles
at LMC’s Outdoor Sea Turtle Hospital.
TurtleFest featured other ocean-friendly opportunities as
well, including a bike valet to reduce CO2 emissions and crafts
from recycled materials. Guests also perused and shopped at
Vendor Row hand-crafted goods, local art and more.
Attendees also raced down a giant seaside slide, enjoyed
fun conservation-themed educational activities for all ages,
art, delicious food, craft beer and specialty drinks provided
by Lagunitas.
If you missed all the fun at TurtleFest this year, check
out LMC’s other programming, including the new Sea Turtle
Sleepover program for kids ages 8-12. LMC’s Sea Turtle
Sleepover is an exclusive nighttime program that offers a tour
of the Outdoor Sea Turtle Hospital, activities for aspiring scientists,
movie time, snacks and pizza, and concludes with a
little shuteye amongst the aquariums. For more information,
and growing in Delray Beach, Florida. This new level of service,
provided by the Delray Beach Office of Economic Development
(OED), is designed to help businesses better understand ‘who is
who and what is what’ as they seek to obtain licenses, permits,
approvals, utilities, inspections and other services from the City
of Delray Beach.
“We have more than 18 departments, divisions and offices
who on any given day are assisting our new and local businesses,”
said Joan K. Goodrich, Economic Development Director.
“At times, it can be overwhelming to know what’s needed
and the next step in the process. OED, along with our City colleagues,
will provide more clarity, guidance and advice on how
to achieve a quicker, successful outcome so they can get back to
running their business.”
Business Navigator is a direct response to feedback received
from local small business owners, entrepreneurs and
executives who explained that if they knew more about the
right sequencing of City processes when they were opening or
expanding, it would have helped them make better decisions
with their teams.
“We realize time is precious,” stated Elizabeth Burrows,
Economic Development Manager and Business Navigator. “If
we can help our businesses find their best path forward more
quickly, our economy will grow and as a result our community
benefits.”
Businesses seeking Business Navigator services should call
561.243.7009 or email the team at BizHelp@mydelraybeach.com.
winners of the 2019 Ekphrastic Poetry Contest,
inspired by the TECH EFFECT exhibition which
was on display earlier this year at the Cornell
Museum at Old School Square in Delray Beach.
To enter, writers were asked to submit up
to 30 lines of original poetry inspired by one
exhibition that explore the complex influences
of technology on the human experience and
the natural world. It features artists whose
work deals with technology in some way.
The first place winner
was Sean Keck of
Christianburg, VA for
his poem “Yorick, circa
1980,” for which he received
a $100 prize. His
poem was set against
the image “Skull” by
72-year-old Cycles 100 Miles
To Fight Cancer
In the early morning of Saturday, April 27, 72-year-old Delray
Beach cyclist Leonard “Len” Cline undertook a 100-mile bike
ride around Palm Beach County. Len, a resident at Abbey Delray retirement
community, took on the incredible feat to raise $10,000 as
part of a Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
Months of preparation have gone into the endeavor and Len
even inspired some Abbey Delray team members to join in. Executive
Director Mark Trepanier and Human Resources Director
Antonieta Caicedo completed their own 100-mile rides alongside
him. This is in addition to the many Abbey Delray residents who
cheered the group on across the finish line.
Len says that providing support to charitable causes such as
Relay for Life is an important part of the community culture at
Abbey Delray. The community is also a big proponent of physical
activity for its residents, and with good reason. According to the
National Institutes of Health, physical activity such as cycling can
help improve cognitive function, manage stress, and prevent or
delay many diseases and disabilities.
Director-IRC), and JOHN Campanola (Board Member- IRC)
The Restoring the Gold Coast program is a two-pronged project
that will mobilize IRC’s partnerships within the community to
teach children and adults about environmental advocacy as they
also learn about the importance of protecting the coastal dunes
and work toward restoring the damage done. This project will
help correct the current lack of biodiversity, providing participants
with rich opportunities to learn how biodiversity keeps the Earth
healthy and ultimately keeps us healthy too. Participants will enjoy
hands-on restoration activities throughout southern Palm Beach
County as they help restore native coastal ecosystems from Boca
Raton to Lake Worth.
According to George Gann, Executive Director and Chief Conservation
Strategist for IRC, “By the end of the 1970s, almost the entire
dune from Key Biscayne to West Palm Beach had eroded into the sea,
and along with it most of the coastal biodiversity of southeastern
Florida. While sandy beaches have been re-nourished, sea-oats have
been planted and turtle nests protected, the vast diversity of coastal
uplands has remained in a depleted state. Restoring the Gold Coast
seeks to restore much of that lost diversity, through a cooperative
effort with stakeholders, volunteers, and restoration experts. Ultimately,
this project will take place in the historic Gold Coast barrier
islands in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, but we
are honored to launch this program in southern Palm Beach County
with support from Impact 100 of Palm Beach County.”
Originally from New York, I have resided in Boynton Beach for the
past 6 years. With a Bachelors’ degree in Equine Studies and
as a former Vice President for Health Clubs, I understand the
importance of hard work and dedication. Married to my husband for 14
years, I enjoy working out, family time, and playing with my two dogs.
I love working with buyers and sellers and pride myself in providing an
outstanding level of service. Honesty and integrity are two characteristics
that have helped me build a business of repeat clients and referrals.
My specialties include helping people making a local move selling their
current home and purchasing another, but I also enjoy working with firsttime
buyers as well! While the process can be stressful, I focus on making
the transition as smooth and stress-free as possible by getting to know my
clients and meeting their needs. I have recently been appointed the Sales
Manager of the Boynton Beach Office and am very excited about helping
other agents become even more successful in their Real Estate careers.
The experience and knowledge of Broker/Owner of Posh Properties,
Jerilyn Walter, makes me honored to be a member of the POSH team.
Delray Under $50
Now that Delray Beach is a rising star in the art, culture and social scene,
it might seem a little difficult to find affordable activities, shops or
restaurants. I am here to prove you wrong. Delray Beach
offers a mix of high-end boutiques with laid-back
restaurants, and events for the whole family or
nightclubs for night owls. Here is what you can do
in Delray Beach in May for $50 or less.
Sun’s out, fun’s out. If you’re tired
of the beach but still looking for
something fun outdoors, get your
balls on the court! May is Tennis Month
and a great time to get back into the swing
of things (see what I did there?). Whether
you’re a tennis novice, a full-time court
enthusiast, or somewhere in between,
the Delray Beach Tennis Center is calling
your name. If you’re not sure where
to start, check out their Intro to Wanna
Workout (WWO), which is an introductory
cardio workout clinic Monday through Friday
from 9 to 10 am and Monday through
Thursday from 6 to 7 pm. Once you’re
feeling the groove, move up to the WWO
II, where you’ll enjoy less talk and more
sweat. This class is for intermediate to advanced
players and is held Mondays and
Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 pm and Saturdays
from 8:30 am to 10 am. If you want to
get social with it, sign up for their Round
Robins, which is a progressive mixed doubles
Round Robin with drinks and prizes.
Winners move up and losers move down
in this event, which is held Friday nights
from 7 to 9 pm and Sunday morning
from 10 am to 12 pm. Cost ranges
from $10 to $20 for members and $15
to $25 for non-members, so get out
there and love, love some tennis. The
Delray Beach Tennis Center is located
at 201 W. Atlantic Ave. Visit www.delraytennis.com
or call (561) 243-7360
for more information and to sign up.
Did you know that tomatoes are
good for you because they contain
the antioxidant lycopene, which
has been linked to many health benefits including
reduced risk of heart disease and cancer? Did you
know one of the tastiest ways to enjoy tomatoes is as
a smoky or spicy or tangy salsa? It’s (almost) a fact!
Good news for us, May is National Salsa Month and
Cinco de Mayo is the perfect time to indulge in this
heart-healthy fruit. Double good news for us, Rocco’s
Tacos is throwing their annual Cinco de Mayo Party
and you and you and you are invited. They promise
copious amounts of drinks, tequila, street food,
more tequila, music, and much more. While you’re
donning your sombrero, make sure to order their
Totopos (chips and salsas) for the table. For $4.50,
you’ll get the ultimate salsa trifecta with their house
(tomato, onion and cilantro), verde (tomatillo and
jalapeno) and rojo (roasted chiles and red peppers).
If you want to really show your taste-hombres who’s
boss, indulge in the Enchiladas Verdes, which is slowroasted
chicken in adobo and tomatillo sauce in two
corn tortillas rolled in sauce, baked with Chihuahua
cheese and served with beans “refrijoles” and yellow
rice for $14. The Cinco de Mayo (and salsa) party
is held at Rocco’s Tacos on Sunday, May 5 from 11
am until 3 am the next morning. Nothing like going
to work smelling like tequila… oops, I mean salsa.
Rocco’s Tacos is located at 110 E. Atlantic Ave. Visit
www.roccostacos.com for more information.
It seems that more and more people are creating
and enjoying an at-home garden. Who wouldn’t?
You not only have fresh produce when you need
it, but you also enjoy the benefit of giving back to
our planet. If you don’t have a green thumb, you can
instead turn to your local farmers who have green
thumbs and fingers. May is Gifts from the Garden
Month and is a wonderful reminder that we have a
fantastic GreenMarket in our own backyard! Started
in 1996 by the Community Redevelopment Agency,
the Delray GreenMarket has become one of the most
28 | may 2019 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
popular and charming aspects that our downtown has to
offer. At the GreenMarket, you’ll find a ton of premier food
vendors featuring farm-to-fork produce, just picked citrus,
tropical fruit and juice, farm fresh eggs, raw milk and butter,
artisan cheese and jams, fragrant baked goods, plenty of
gluten-free, vegan and organic products, fresh cut flowers,
plants and other unique gourmet fare along with live musical
entertainment. The Summer GreenMarket is held every
Saturday in June and July, 9am to 12pm at the Delray Beach
Tennis Center at 201 W. Atlantic Ave. So gather your friends,
your reusable tote and your dog and head downtown and
enjoy the tasty garden gifts! Visit www.delraycra.org/
There’s just something about a salad that is so refreshing.
The crunch of the lettuce, the freshness of
the toppings and the tanginess of the dressing is a
magical combination that is perfect for year-round indulgence
in South Florida. May is National Salad Month and
thankfully for us we have a ton of restaurants that offer everything
from traditional salads to the new, new. For a supremely
filling and delicious salad, head to Sazio for their
Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad, made with baby greens,
mandarin oranges, gorgonzola cheese and candied pecans
tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette with a honey mustard
drizzle for $19.95. If you are looking for something a little
lighter (but still very filling), enjoy Park Tavern’s Chopped
Salad with mixed greens, onion, carrot, tomato, broccoli,
spiced corn nuts, queso fresco, avocado, almonds, cucumber
and champagne vinaigrette for $16. For something refreshingly
savory, sink your teeth into Brule Bistro’s The
Little Gem Wedge with bacon, pickled red onion, tomato,
egg and Gorgonzola Dolce vinaigrette for $12. If nothing
has hit the spot so far (impossible), head over to Cut432
for their Signature Salad made with aged Manchego, baby
heirloom tomatoes, spiced cashews and a Green Goddess
dressing for $11/$18. So embrace the holiday and toss salads
into your daily cuisine! Visit downtowndelraybeach.
com or call (561) 243-1077 for complete restaurant information
and locations.
It’s air, and it’s beautiful! Essential, yes. Lovely, double
yes. May is Clean Air Month and is a great time to fall
in love with Florida all over again. It’s about as “spring”
as we’re going to get, so it’s now or never to get out and
enjoy the environment, which is best done in a sundress
with sandals and a sun hat. The 22nd Annual Downtown
Delray Beach Craft Festival is back again and here for our
perusing pleasure this Memorial Day Weekend. Held at the
Delray Beach Tennis Center, you’re invited to check out all
the vendors’ paintings, jewelry, glass work, pottery and
much more. Not to mention, you’ll privy to the fresh air,
blue skies, nice breeze, and warming sun! This is an amazing
opportunity to find a unique piece of artwork for your
home or office, hang out with your friends, and enjoy one
of the many festivals of the season! The Festival is held Saturday,
May 25 and Sunday, May 26 from 10 am to 5 pm and
is located at 201 W. Atlantic Ave. Visit www.artfestival.com
17-Jun 2 God Of Carnage – Multiple
performances. A Comedy Of
Manners...Without The Manners. God
of Carnage is a riveting study of parenting
today. Two upwardly mobile
couples are brought together when
the son of one couple injures the son of
the other couple in a public park. He
knocks two of the boy’s teeth out with
a stick. The parents decide to bypass
legal avenues by meeting to discuss
the mater. The result is a study in just
how thin the veneer of civilization
is in even the most advanced level of
our society. Before the evening is over,
a high-powered lawyer, a self-made
man, a passionate human rights advocate
and a very insecure housewife
all find themselves in an emotionally
charged battle to justify and defend
their children’s behavior. It’s not surprising
that God of Carnage was one of
the three longest-running plays of its
decade. DelrayBeachPlayhouse.com;
Artists Throwdown at the
1st Annual Art Throwdown & Monster Drawing Rally
Think of it as Iron Chef but for artists.
On June 7th, swing by the Arts
Warehouse in Pineapple Grove from
5pm – 10pm for the First Annual Art Throwdown
and Monster Drawing Rally.
The Monster Drawing Rally is part performance,
part art-walk, part art sale, and is
sure to be one of Delray Beach’s liveliest funraising
events. During the Monster Drawing
Rally, artists create artworks from start-tofinish
in front of a live audience. Artwork
can be purchased for $30 as soon as they are
finished. If more than one person wants the
same piece of art they will rock, paper, scissors
to see who gets to buy it.
The night caps off with the Arts Throwdown
where artists go head to head in a 90
minute challenge. They’ll each be provided
the same art supplies, plus have access to a
table of unusual items to use for their 90 minute
masterpiece.
“We’ve already had artists from Miami,
Orlando and Tampa sign up,” says Jill
Brown, Executive Director of the Arts Warehouse.
“We’re looking for some local talent
to compete.”
The winning artist will receive their own
show at the Arts Warehouse at a future date.
Guests will be able to watch creative talent
at work in a party atmosphere with food
trucks, a bar and a DJ playing all night. The action
takes place in the Arts Warehouse’s 3000
sqft white room. A giant two story high warehouse
space that is now available for rentals.
The deadline for Artist Registration is
May 10, 2019.
Tickets for the event are $10 and are on
sale now on Eventbrite.
Go to www.artswarehouse.org/monsterdrawing-throwdown-fundraiser
The Little Teashop
On Main
by Jodi Thomas
Released May 7
rainy-day ritual—a tea party between
A three little girls—becomes the framework
of not only their friendship, but their
lives.
Redheaded, curly-haired Zoe is openhearted,
kind and free-spirited, and dreams
of becoming a famous actor in New York
City. Shy Emily struggles with mental health
but has the heart and soul of a writer. And
Shannon—tall, athletic, strong—has a deep
sense of loyalty that will serve her well
when she heads off to military college.
As Zoe, Emily and Shannon grow into
women—forging careers, following dreams
and finding love—they’ll learn that life
doesn’t always unfold the way they want
it to, but through it all, the one constant is
each other, and their regular tea parties.
And when the unthinkable happens, the
girls must come together to face the greatest
test of all.
Resistance Women
by Jennifer Chiaverini
Released May 14
After Wisconsin graduate student Mildred
Fish marries brilliant German
economist Arvid Harnack, she accompanies
him to his German homeland, where a
promising future awaits. In the thriving intellectual
culture of 1930s Berlin, the newlyweds
create a rich new life filled with love,
friendships, and rewarding work—but the
rise of a malevolent new political faction inexorably
changes their fate.
As Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party wield
violence and lies to seize power, Mildred,
Arvid, and their friends resolve to resist.
Mildred gathers intelligence for her American
contacts, including Martha Dodd, the
vivacious and very modern daughter of the
US ambassador. Her German friends, aspiring
author Greta Kuckoff and literature student
Sara Weitz, risk their lives to collect
information from journalists, military officers,
and officials within the highest levels
of the Nazi regime.
For years, Mildred’s network stealthily
The Night Before
by Wendy Walker
Released May 14
The night before...and the nightmare after.
Laura Lochner has never been lucky in
love. She falls too hard and too fast, always
choosing the wrong men. Devastated
by the end of her last relationship, she
fled her Wall Street job and New York City
apartment for her sister’s home in the Connecticut
suburb where they both grew up.
Though still haunted by the tragedy that’s
defined her entire life, Laura is determined
to take one more chance on love with a man
she’s met on an Internet dating site.
Rosie Ferro has spent most of her life
worrying about her troubled sister. Fearless
but fragile, Laura has always walked an
emotional tightrope, and Rosie has always
been there to catch her. Laura’s return, under
mysterious circumstances, has cast a
shadow over Rosie’s peaceful life with her
husband and young son – a shadow that
grows darker as Laura leaves the house for
her blind date.
When Laura does not return home the
following morning, Rosie fears the worst.
She’s not responding to calls or texts, and
she’s left no information about the man she
planned to meet. As Rosie begins a desperate
search to find her sister, she is not just
worried about what this man might have
done to Laura. She’s worried about what
Laura may have done to him…
Ol’ Shep: Book 1:
Faithful Shep
by Don DeNevi
Released May 20
He had been there alone for fifteen days.
His side of bacon was eaten, and the sack
of corn getting very low. The Rangers were
as much delighted as if it had been a human
being they had rescued. He had worn the top
of the wall of the old stage stand perfectly
smooth, standing off the sneaking coyotes …
Shep had held the fort….” —George Wythe
Baylor, Captain (Ret.), Company C, Frontier
Battalion, El Paso Herald, February 3, 1900
Faithful Shep is a fictional account of a
loyal dog rescued by nine Texas Rangers,
based on a fascinating true story from the
history of America’s west.
Author’s Note – Faithful Shep was written
as a tribute arising from admiration of that
great daring that is bred in bravery. I dedicate
this book to all who ennoble with loving care
the warm-hearted animals who revere them
in return. May this story of a stranded, starving
dog and the ordinary men who trekked
into hostile country to save him, serve as a
source of inspiration and resolve.
I express sincere appreciation and deep
indebtedness to the host of Texas university
researchers, reference librarians, and historical
archivists whom I continually pestered
for details of setting and geography,
personal letters from the period, old newspaper
clippings, documents on the Texas
Rangers, and other minutia that I cannot
even recall at the moment. These long-suffering
aides to my quest are too numerous
to name, but I am thankful they know who
they are and that they helped a hero dog live
again, briefly, in these pages.

health & beauty | pain relief
By dr. john conde
How To Fix That
“Pain In The Neck”
Neck pain can be, well, a “pain in the neck.” It is estimated that
10% of Americans (that’s 30,500,496 people!) are currently
suffering from neck pain. The traditional treatment prescribed
by physicians utilizing pain relievers, muscle relaxants, rest,
and possible soft collar application is no longer the acceptable
standard of care as this regimen only produces symptomatic relief.
According to a landmark report furnished by the Task Force
on Neck Pain and its Associated Disorders (which can be
found in the peer reviewed medical journal Spine), some of
the most effective treatments for neck pain include manipulation,
mobilization, massage, and exercise. In addition, cutting-edge research
is exposing the benefits of brain-based therapeutic exercises
for the relief and prevention of neck pain due to the brain’s intimate
control of neck muscles.
The neck is the most dynamic part of the spine. Its main functions
are to protect the spinal cord, provide the foundation for the
skull, and act as a bridge connecting the skull with the rest of the
body. However, it has to be flexible enough to allow movement
in six different planes. This makes the neck the most
vulnerable region of the spine to injury. It is lined with a
high concentration of compression sensitive sensors
(joint mechanoreceptors), which when triggered provide
a high powered stimulation to the brain which
is essential for its health. The small muscles which
surround the neck play a large role in the overall
health of the neck. Reflexes generated in these
muscles in response to stretch relay through a certain
part of the brain termed the cerebellum which
then fire back to keep these same muscles strong.
As a result, brain-based therapies geared towards
the cerebellum produce amazing results concerning
the overall stability of the neck.
The most common neck complaints
involve three distinct
structures: the disc,
the posterior joints
of the spine also
known as the
facet joints, and
the soft tissue regions
including the
ligaments and tendons surrounding the spine. Injury to the discs
which are found between the vertebrae and act as shock absorbers
will produce moderate to severe neck pain with associated pain
into the arm and hand. The pain may be relieved momentarily with
elevation of the affected arm over the head. Facet joint injuries will
also manifest as neck and arm pain but may start without an offensive
behavior like a trauma and will typically produce pain down
the outer arm into the hand. Lastly, soft tissue injury will normally
produce localized pain with severe restriction of movement. Nausea
and headache may accompany the pain. This is commonly
found after motor vehicle accidents.
Many new, advanced therapies are combining physical
medicine such as mobilization exercises, stretch/
strengthening exercises, myofascial release, traction,
decompression, and nutrition with brain-based
exercises targeting the cerebellum region of the
brain. This approach not only focuses on the
neck structures themselves but also the regions
of the brain that control the deep intrinsic
muscles of the neck producing greater
stability. Stop hurting and start living.
The Vampire Facial
Most of us have seen the shocking image of Kim Kardashian’s
bloody face promoting the cosmetic procedure called the
“Vampire facial.” If one strips out all the promotional hype
surrounding it, the actual medical procedure is revolutionary
and is called Microneedling with PRP or Platelet-Rich Plasma.
The technology behind the procedure is using
the body’s natural ability to repair damaged
tissue and grow healthy new collagen,
which firms and lifts the skin. The procedure is
safe, effective and without unwanted side effects.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a preparation of
your own blood that has been spun in a centrifuge
to extract the concentrated content of platelets
and their amazing quality and quantity of growth
factors. Once the PRP is prepared, it is then delivered
via the microneedling channels created using
a motorized pen with tiny needles in it. PRP
promotes healing and regeneration by releasing
growth factors and signals called cytokines that
have the ability to instruct our body’s stem cells
to become active and responds to the tiny injury
of the skin from the microneedling punctures.
Platelet derived growth factors can create new
cell growth and repair old cells that have been
damaged from sunlight and environmental stress.
An even more concentrated and effective form
of PRP is now available. It comes from donated
placenta and it’s called the amniotic membrane.
The growth factors from the amniotic membrane
are isolated and can be administered just as the PRP but the effects
are estimated to be 25 times greater and more effective because
of potent array of growth factors. These are the growth factors
that are responsible for developing a healthy baby.
In aesthetics, PRP or growth factors are being used to help
regenerate the skin and speed up healing time from procedures
such as lasers, microneedling, and skin cancer removal. It also can
be directly injected into the skin to improve the quality of the skin
in areas like the under eye hollow, smile lines and even acne scars.
Results are appreciated almost immediately leaving the skin
glowing, but the real work that is done on a cellular level can be
fully enjoyed in 8-12 weeks when collagen has had time to grow.
Crepey skin of the neck, chest, and hands can be rejuvenated as
well as the face to give a more youthful appearance.
PRP and growth factors have also been found to promote hair
growth. There has been an explosion of hair restoration without
surgery using these techniques. Amniotic fluid contains growth
cytokines which stimulate hair follicles within the scalp. From the
injection of the PRP/growth factors, the hair follicles are activated
to a state where they start producing hair again. On a vascular
level, the growth factors have the ability to form new blood vessels
as well as regenerate the old. In doing so they aide the body
in delivering improved blood flow to the scalp so it can further
more promote hair regrowth in a nutrient rich environment. Hair
re-growth is visible starting at about 6 weeks and can be retreated
every 12 weeks until desired results are achieved. Growth factors
and PRP are revolutionizing cosmetic dermatology.
Gym Buddies
Lacking some motivation for your workout these days? A gym
buddy just might be the solution to your workout blues! Many
girlfriends go to the gym together to transform and it always
works out very well! Here are 5 reasons to grab (or drag) a
friend with you to the gym. It may improve your health and give
you that motivation you need to get your sweat mojo back on!
1. Accountability
It’s one thing to bail on your
own workout, but it’s much
harder to ditch a workout
when you will be letting your
workout buddy down. In addition
to this, having a workout
partner means planning
your workouts in advance to
fit each other’s schedule. Once
it’s scheduled, it’s more
likely that you’re going to
follow through. So, when
you are feeling lazy and
want to ditch your
workout, having the
accountability of a
buddy will greatly
increase your
chances of making
that workout happen!
2. Try New Work
Sometimes it can be intimidating
walking into a new environment…new
workout, new people etc.
That’s where your workout buddy comes
into play! Having a friend there with you can
make the experience much less intimidating
and much more fun!
3. Good Ole’ Support
Because we’re all human, at some point you’ll
probably feel like throwing in the towel for various
reasons. However, the support from your
workout partner will most likely be just what
you need to stay on track. A good workout
buddy will be there to listen to your woes and
then to tell you to get your butt back in the gym,
just like any good friend would! The support
you will both offer each other will
be immeasurable.
4. Buddy Assessments
It’s difficult to view yourself
objectively. When it comes to
your fitness progress, you may
not notice how your strength
and endurance is improving
or that you’ve lost
weight or gained muscle
over time. Your
workout buddy can
view you objectively
and remind you
of your progress.
Validation can help
bolster your selfesteem
and keep your
motivation levels high.
5. Step Up Your Game
Let’s be honest, we as human
beings like to compete with
one another. Having a workout buddy
who is just a little fitter, just a little
stronger than you are will keep you on
your toes and striving for a little more
in your workout. By trying to keep up
with them, you’ll challenge yourself in
ways you didn’t think were possible!
Pasqual Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Celebrates 8 Years
Of Continued Growth
By nicol jenkins | Photos by melissa korman
Pasqual Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is
celebrating its 8th year in business and continues
to grow with new products and technology.
When looking for a dental specialist and surgeon who is
trusted and experienced in oral and facial reconstruction,
Dr. John R. Pasqual continues to be a top recommendation.
With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Pasqual specializes in
all surgery of the mouth and facial-complex, from wisdom teeth,
and dental implants to facial trauma and reconstructive surgery.
“We continue to grow exponentially every year. We are looking
to add an associate and continue to expand and serve everyone in
Palm Beach County,” said Dr. Pasqual.
Dr. Pasqual’s staff is trained in intravenous sedation within their
state-of-the-art office, which offers private rooms and a relaxing
setting for each patient. They have recently incorporated using laser
in their practice for surgical cases, which is less painful and provides
a faster recovery time. The office is also utilizing Platelet Rich
Fibrins to accelerate the healing of soft and hard tissue.
“Pasqual Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is different from many dental
or medical clinics; we are a very patient-centric office. We focus
on the patients’ physical as well as emotional wellbeing,” said Dr.
Pasqual. “We understand surgery may be a very stressful time for patients.
Our goal is to meet with patients and family for a consultation,
discuss their current condition, explain all options as well as risks and
benefits of surgery and ultimately perform our very best for them.”
The center utilizes only the best diagnostic equipment including
i-CAT 3D imaging which produces precise high definition 3D cat
scans of your entire mouth, face and skull so an accurate treatment
plan may be established. Dr. Pasqual’s office is one of the few centers
that utilize this advanced technology that greatly benefits each
patient because of its accuracy.
Dr. Pasqual’s experience in the surgical specialty of dentistry
gives him an edge over many. In fact, oral and maxillofacial surgery
requires years of hospital-based surgical and medical training after
graduation from dental school. John R. Pasqual, D.M.D., P.A. is
a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and fellow of the
American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as
fellow of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He is a graduate and President of the University of Pittsburgh
School of Dental Medicine. He has received post-graduate training
in surgery as well as anesthesia at Case Western Reserve University
MetroHealth Medical Center, a level I trauma center located in
Cleveland, Ohio where he served as chief resident.
66 | May 2019 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Dr. Pasqual has many accolades and gives back in other areas
of his life, including being the past President of the Palm
Beach County Dental Association, along with being the Chairman
of the Board for the Bethesda Hospital Foundation Board
of Directors, an active contributor to the Boys & Girls Club as
well as the Delray Beach Public Library. Dr. Pasqual also maintains
an academic appointment as a clinical associate professor
at the University of Florida as well as Temple University.
He was inducted into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international
honor society for illustrating excellence in the specialty
of patient care. In addition, he is a Delegate to the FDA
and on the FDA’s Council for Dental Education and Licensure.
His expertise hasn’t gone unnoticed. His patients come from
Boca Raton, Palm Beach, Jupiter, Miami and really from all
over the world. Dr. Pasqual has even treated many celebrities,
world-renowned musicians and other high-profile patients.
“I treat several patients that have celebrity-status. However,
all my patients are super-stars to me. It is a true privilege to
practice each and everyday. I am humbled that patients that
may obtain medical care anywhere in the world choose my office,
“ said Dr. Pasqual.
Whether it’s a dental implant, complete oral rehabilitation,
or facial reconstruction, Dr. Pasqual finds an inner reward in
helping his patients look and feel their best.
Dr. Pasqual’s patients feel the same about him and praise
him for his care.
“As the husband of Dr. Pasqual’s patient who presented him
with a myriad of problems, I will always remain grateful and
in awe of his patience, understanding, competence and kindness.
His technical skills are remarkable, his office and staff
are second to none; but it is his gentle strength and ability to
calm and care for the patient that will be most appreciated. No
question went unanswered; no request seemed unreasonable.
The next time you or your loved one needs care; I suggest that
you seek him out. You cannot do any better than that,” stated a
patient’s family member.
Dr. Pasqual plans to continue to expand his practice.
“I am happy to see the exponential growth, which is telling
us that we are doing something right,” he said.
Delray Shores Pharmacy & The Foxworth Fountain
Sunday Brunch, Educational Lectures
& Entertainment Now Offered
the iconic Flossy B Building
by nicol jenkins | Photos by melissa korman
In their second year of business,
Delray Shores Pharmacy & The
Foxworth Fountain continues to
add new features to appeal to
customers with every interest.
From diners who want to try their delicious homemade waffles
during Sunday Brunch, to locals who want to hear about
pet health and hemp-derived CBD, and those wanting to meet
their neighbors and listen to some live music, Delray Shores Pharmacy
& The Foxworth Fountain has it all and much more.
“We’ve made some exciting changes,” said Rhyan Dildine, who
owns the pharmacy and soda fountain with her husband TJ, who is
also the pharmacist.
Delray Shores Pharmacy is the longest running, family-owned
and operated, independent pharmacy in Delray Beach. In addition
to personalized pharmacy services that include free prescription
delivery, custom compounded medications, as well as adult vaccinations,
The Foxworth Fountain, equipped with a vintage 1950’s
Bastian Blessing soda machine and marbled counters, serves up
classic ice cream treats, breakfast, lunch, brunch, and adult happy
hours. The pharmacy and soda fountain are connected by a retail
shop offering unique gifts, craft beers, and wines.
TJ’s parents, the late pharmacist Thom Dildine and his wife Carol
first opened the pharmacy in 1975. Originally located on Lake Ida
Road just west of Congress Avenue, Thom ran a successful business
near the Delray Shores neighborhood. Upon Thom’s retirement in
2006, TJ took over the reigns to the family business as lead pharmacist
and together with his wife Rhyan Dildine, became owners.
In March of 2018, in an effort to add an authentic soda fountain,
lunch counter, and compounding lab, TJ and Rhyan moved their
pharmacy to 124 NE 5th Ave in Downtown Delray Beach. Today, the
newly constructed Flossy B. Building, named after their 5-year-old
daughter, houses Delray Shores Pharmacy and The Foxworth Fountain,
aptly named after their 2 year old son Foxworth, making it the
ultimate “family” business. The charming old-fashioned soda fountain
transports you back in time to the good ole’ days of delicious
ice cream floats, classic New York egg creams and house-made,
hand-stirred flavored sodas. The chefs, Rhyan and her mother Kimberly
Linthicum, created a full menu with delicious breakfast and
lunch items including made to order Belgian waffles, homemade
buttermilk biscuits with Southern sausage gravy, organic oatmeal
bowls, avocado toasts, and even special menu items for kids and
patrons who are on the Gluten-free, Paleo, Keto and Vegan diets.
The Foxworth Fountain takes pride in their fun “Adulting” menu,
consisting of craft beer milkshakes and floats, CBD milkshakes
and sundaes, as well as wine and champagne by the glass. Happy
Hour is from 4 to 6 pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 4 to 7 pm
on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays featuring $2 off wines and
“Adult” milkshakes, and $1 off craft beers. On Fridays, they plan
Chef Rhyan welcoming you inside the Foxworth
Fountain’s private event and lecture space
to focus on fun and entertainment, with live music and painting
with wine parties. There is also a room available to rent for private
functions and educational seminars. To date, the fountain has
hosted events including Ladies luncheons, child birthday parties,
business networking meetings, kids cooking camps, family reunion
ice cream socials, and private meetings. Gifts such as YETI coolers,
baby items, pet gear and treats, Papyrus paper, and an extensive
craft beer and wine section can be found on the retail floor.
Customers can also now enjoy their new Sunday Brunch which
began a few months ago. The menu serves up fresh egg platters,
French baked sandwiches, homemade waffles, biscuits and sausage
gravy, avocado toasts, house-made chicken salad, and bottomless
mimosas and frosés!
Besides delicious food, the owners are in the process of offering
a weekly educational lecture series where experts in various fields
come on designated Thursday nights to discuss a variety of topics
such as CBD Oil, diabetic education, smoking cessation classes,
cloth diapering 101, and anything else the community may want to
learn about. Speaking of CBD, this local pharmacy has been at the
forefront of CBD education from their pharmacists and has many
CBD products from reputable brands available for purchase.
The main goal of the pharmacy and soda fountain is to educate
on wellness.
“My husband is driven by a desire to educate people on health
and wellness, and I am driven by the belief that food and social
connection heals! Between the two of us we try to cover all bases
of feeling your best, whether it is through fresh food, medication
management, supplemental alternatives, social interaction, or just
simple education,” said Rhyan. It is the hope of The Dildine family
that people come into their store to find and feel joy.
So be sure to stop by Delray Shores Pharmacy & The Foxworth
Fountain for your prescriptions, a classic soda, a homemade meal,
an ice cream float or a unique birthday gift! Also find them on Facebook
and Instagram.
Delray Shores Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9
am to 6 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, and Closed on Sundays.
The Foxworth Fountain is open Tuesday and Wednesday from
BOYD’S MADISON AVENUE
Comes To Delray Beach
by diane feen | Photos by melissa korman
Stop by and browse our amazing selection of Boyd’s cosmetics
Boyd’s Madison Avenue
was to make-up what Tesla
is to the auto industry.
(Carol hired 20 at their pinnacle) and rarely were there cosmetic
lines from Paris, Germany, Italy and other parts of the world. Even
Trish McEvoy got her start at Boyd’s.
It was an exciting time for Boyd’s and an essential rite of passage
for anyone wanting to look marvelous from sun up to sun down.
Carol hired make-up artists that had a flair for creativity and color
rather than someone who liked make-up…and it showed.
Make-up artists like Yvonne (who didn’t speak English when she
started) and Adele tended to the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Grace
Kelly, Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner.
Even Cary Grant dropped into Boyd’s for shaving cream. He also
tried to woo Carol. “Cary Grant said, ‘You are so adorable’ and then
he asked me if I would have a drink with him. I got my gloves and met
him at the Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel. It was exciting,” said Carol,
who was dubbed the “beauty brain” by The New York Times.
Fashion models were told to shop at Boyd’s because they had the
latest and greatest beauty products. The store was always bustling
with excitement and stocked with products you couldn’t live without.
Carol even gave Caroline Kennedy her fist make-up application
when she was a teenager.
This amazing New York City boutique that sold make-up and
accessories to everyone from housewives to movie stars was
the quintisential center of gravity when it came to glamour.
Its origins date back to the 40s when it was an apothecary, luncheonette
and pharmacy. But that was until Carol Fader (VP and co-owner)
let her imagination and creativity get the best of her (in a good way).
Fader had an idea to sell make-up and accessories she culled
from beauty shows all over the world. Her love of fashion and
beauty sparked a revolution on Madison Avenue and 61st Street.
The store was legendary for having in-store make-up artists and
imported private label make-up not found anywhere else.
The results were astounding. You could sit at a counter and have
a total cosmetic make-over and purchase products that made you
look Hollywood ready. Before leaving you were given a facial diagram
to show you how to reproduce the entire look at home. It
was not uncommon to see Cher, Madonna or Jackie O shopping for
beauty products. I saw Cher one day sauntering around the accessories
department without anyone noticing her.
But it was more than happenstance that brought in Revlon’s
CEO(Paul Woolard) to see what the beauty revolution at Boyd’s
was all about. At that time there were no in-house make-up artists
Boyd’s carries a variety of luxury brushes imported from Italy
All the glamour and glitz of Boyd’s on Madison Avenue
stopped in 2007. But it did not stop online. They continued to
sell their infamous handmade brushes, Brot magnifying mirrors
(the Rolls of mirrors), Boyd’s Moon-Glow Luminous Complexion
Glow, moisturizers, skin care products, makeup and accessories.
The good news is that Boyd’s Madison Avenue has come to
Florida. Not only does Carol live in South Florida, but her son
Marc Acker is leading the way in their new incarnation in Delray
(and soon Hollywood). You can still book a make-up artist
(in advance) and browse their showroom-store for amazing
products like their famous “No Lines” that takes away wrinkles
or their brush-on hair color to erase gray.
“Come and see what is new at Boyd’s Madison Avenue. We
were the original beauty innovators with in-house makeup artists
and private exclusive make-up. We have the best products
to erase dark circles, as well as top of the line hair bushes, Brot
magnifying mirrors, hair accessories and make-up,” said Acker.
Carol is still involved in the business as well. “We continue
to search the globe for products that are unique and never
been done before. People are careful about what they eat, why
not make sure your makeup is equally as healthy. Our make-up
is the purest of the pure.”
Boyd’s Madison has makeup serum that reduces puffy lines
and moisturizers and night creams that make your skin supple
and youthful. They also have liquid color tubes to erase the
gray in your roots.
Coming soon is a line of beauty products made from roses. There
will be hypo-allergenic rose extract, fragrances, firming cream and
products to plump, hydrate and quench your skin, said Carol.
One story that Carol likes to tell – and those around her like
to hear – is the time when NYC had no electricity. Boyd’s shoppers
did not dismay, they came in and had their makeup done
by cosmeticians with flashlights.
But the lights are clearly on in Delray at Boyd’s Madison Avenue.
And their products are still amazing, pure and available
online or in their showroom-store.
You can have a private make-up session–but you must book
in advance. You might not see Madonna or Cher, but then again
you never know.
Shears of Faith
Whitney Smith And Joe Ardagna
Transformation Revelation
By diane feen | Photos by melissa korman
Whitney Smith and Joe Ardagna rock. In simple terms they are the
quintessential dynamic duo that have mastered the art of their
craft. Their craft is hair coloring, styling, cutting and hair extensions.
But the byproduct is simplicity and grace – kindness and
passion.
That is why clients flock to their salon that is a world
away from the cosmic commotion of Atlantic Avenue. It was
built on faith that their clients would follow them from downtown
Delray to a homey spot on Federal Highway. The parking is
abundant, and time stands still in this cottage of creativity that
honors and shapes beauty.
Both Whitney and Joe are master stylists and colorists with a
passion for their work, and their clients. They also support other
businesses in the community and recently did a makeover for
Traci Daniel. It included a fashion makeover from Mobile Boutique,
“Luxuria Mobile” owned by client Janey Bass.
Bass is happy that Whitney and Joe enjoy helping others who
fly in their beauty orbit. She’s been getting her hair cut and colored
by Joe for years and adores both Joe and Whitney. “I have
to be on target with trends, color and cut because my customers
are fashion forward and stylish. I have to uphold a certain image
from head to toe.”
Traci Daniel has been going to Whitney for 11 years and enjoys
the sense of family and camaraderie at Shears of Faith. “The
dynamics at Shears of Faith is fantastic. Whitney makes my long
blond hair look great with balayage highlights. She also gives me
helpful tips on keeping my hair looking great and suggests products
for me to use.”
Everyone loves Whitney. And it’s easy to see why. The natural
beauty, who was destined to cut, color and style hair since she was in
high school, sees everyone as a child of God. She is grateful for what
she has accomplished and what has been given to her.
Not only do her clients love her, but Joe has an aerial view of Whitney’s
inner core. “Whitney is the most amazing lady I have ever met. Her
work ethic is flawless, her talent and devotion to her clients is unsurpassed.
I have never seen anyone more in tune with life and business.”
A lot has happened in the two years that Shears of Faith has
opened. They now have eight employees, five stylists and three as-
our model being dressed by Janey Bass and the luxuria mobile boutique
sociates. People flock to their shop for its cozy countenance and
family welcome. Joe and Whitney call their small slice of Delray
real estate a simplistic down-to-earth salon with a big heart.
So does their assistant Caroline Murray. “I’ve been working
at Shears of Faith for a year. I was looking for a positive
work environment where I could grow professionally. Joe and
Whitney have been amazing. It really is a positive work environment.
Everyone gets along and is super supportive - that’s
hard to find but valuable.”
Joe and Whitney also use the best – and newest - products in
the industry. The Oribe products include styling aids and moisture
creams that make hair soft and supple. They also have an
anti-humidity spray – that is one of the most popular products
in Florida. The super shine products create a smooth pliable
feel. And as someone who’s hair always looks like a Brillo Pad; I
can attest that these products work on anyone’s hair. It’s like a
miracle when used with a blow-out.
“Joe and Whitney are the most talented hair stylists and colorists
I know. We collaborate together to transform clients’ hair,
clothing and make-up,” said make-up artist Jackie Owens.
They also specialize in hair extensions - strand-by-strand or
tape-ins by Great Lengths USA. You can get hair extensions to
match the color of your highlighted or balayage coloring. Balayage
(or Foilayage) is the latest coloring technique. The dye is
hand painted onto your hair to give it a natural, gradual transition
of light and dark shades for a beautiful sun-kissed glow.
“Balayage is here to stay and it’s unique for each guest. We have
different brushes with a signature stroke,” said Joe.
You can also get hair extensions to match your hair color perfectly,
regardless of the different shades. The tape-in extensions
last 10 weeks and can be re-taped and used for another 10 weeks.
Another part to the Shears of Faith all-star team includes Amy
Jenness, who owned a salon with Ardagna in New Hampshire. She
also has a passion for the pursuit of perfection for her clients. “I’ve
been cutting and coloring hair for 26 years and was an educator
for Wella. I love working at Shears of Faith and enjoy making my
clients look beautiful. I feel like I’ve known Whitney forever.”
Come for the comfort and bathe in the passion and excellence
of their craft.
RAY CRALLÉ
A Man On A Mission
By diane feen | Photos by melissa korman
There aren’t too many people out to
save those who can’t save themselves,
but Ray Crallé is one of them.
The world-renowned Physical Therapist - who helps people
with all types of injuries and infirmities –has become known
in Neuro-Rehabilitation and Sports Rehabilitation. Crallé has
spearheaded the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments(HBO) for
those who have suffered traumatic brain injury, concussions, stroke,
near drowning and now Alzheimer’s disease.
“High school athletes get concussed, which is a wound in the brain,
and it is untreated by most. I want coaches and trainers to be aware
that less than four Hyperbaric Treatments (on average)will return
the person safely back to their sport,” said Crallé, who has been documented
in the media as an expert in treating concussions and PTSD.
Daphne Denham, MD,states that concussion leads to inflammation
and cerebral ischemia – which leads to cell damage or a wound in the
brain. “Dr. Denham’s pioneering work using HBO and Doppler Ultrasound
proved returns of normal blood flow after less than 4 HBO
sessions and return to play safely!”
Crallé, who is an advocate for school athletic safety, is adamant that
football helmets do not prevent brain injury, but instead protects bones
from breaking in the skull. “It does not, however, stop concussions or
traumatic brain injury.” Crallé treats many NFL players for injury recovery
and concussion but recently was consulted for a devastating injury
to an NFL linebacker who fractured his spine and was paralyzed.
“Following the surgical repair three days later the neurosurgeon
called me about HBO treatments. On the 6th day and 12th treatment
he called me to tell me how surprised he was by the complete recovery
of nerve and muscles in the patients left leg. Within 40 treatments the
young man was walking! A medical first, to my knowledge,” adds Crallé.
Though unknown to some in the mainstream medical community,
HBO treatments have been found to arrest the progression of
Alzheimer’s, and to reverse many of the symptoms (in a recent published
case study).
“We had one patient (50-years-old) wearing diapers who could
not function independently. After one HBO treatment she no longer
needed the diaper and after three treatments she could dress
herself and cut her own food. She completed the standard 40 treatments
and now enjoys improved cognition and independent functions,”
said Crallé.
HBO’s effect on brain function can be found by talking to Mr. and
Mrs. Berman, whose son Timothy had a brain tumor. Their son was
unresponsive for six months following his brain surgery. His parents
were told they should put him in a home for the rest of his life.
But, determined to help their son, the Bermans turned to Crallé and
his HBO protocols.
“The results were dramatic. The medical community wanted us
74 | May 2019 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
to put Timothy in a facility to die. He was minimally conscious,
and I searched everywhere for answers. I found an article about
HBOT and took Timothy to Ray Crallé. Timothy has changed remarkedly
from day one. After one treatment he took his first
steps and now he can walk 100 yards and have a conversation.
Those were things he could not do before. He can follow directions
for his Physical Therapy and even regained his sense of
humor. His disposition has also improved,” said the Bermans.
Crallé also has treated Veterans since 2009 suffering from
blast concussions on a pro-bono basis. He is excited about Senator
Tom Wright’s recent sponsoring of a Bill for veterans who
suffer from PTSD to receive HBOT. According to Crallé there
are 1.6 million Veterans living in Florida, many who suffer
early onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s that can be related
to blast exposure.
“Senator Wright, who’s in charge of Florida’s Committee on
Military and Veterans Affairs, is sponsoring a Bill to provide
HBO to all veterans in Florida suffering with Blast Brain injury.
Did you know 22 Veterans a day are reported to kill themselves
because of PTSD?”said Crallé.
HBOT Pioneer, Richard Neubauer, MD, famous for his treatment
of neurological damage with HBOT, was a big fan of
Crallé’s. “Ray is one of the finest and most competent physical
therapists in the traditional realm of this field, as well as being
one of the most innovative, imaginative and forward thinking,
particularly in the treatment of brain injury,” said Neubauer,
who is deceased.
Crallé has also worked with children and adults with various
disabilities. Some are famous Polo, NFL, and NHL players,
and others who have learned about Cralle’s compassion and
care for those who need his expertise in the benefit of combining
rehabilitation and HBO.
Crallé can’t be happier. He was one of the first proponents
of HBOT and continues to help those who need him. Crallé is
collaborating with three university-based neurosurgeons who
are interested in studying the benefits of HBO in several areas
of neuropathology.“Scientifically documenting our outcomes
is our goal,” said Cralle.
BOYNTON BEACH SKIN
Making Skin Health A Priority
By diane feen | Photos by melissa korman
Boynton Beach Skin has
a collective mission –
“Provide Excellent Care.”
It’s written on the walls of the office and in the minds of the attentive
doctors and staff who specialize in general dermatology,
Mohs surgery and cosmetic dermatology.
According to Dr. Weinstein and Dr. DeVoursney, Florida residents
(and snowbirds) are often risking their health by going out in the sun
without sunscreen and sun protective clothing.
“Every hour someone dies from Melanoma,” said Dr. Weinstein.
Yes, you heard that right. May is Melanoma Awareness month and
now is a good time to get your skin exam.
According to both doctors you need to put on twice the amount
of sunscreen you think you need. “Sunscreen should be applied 15-
20 minutes before you go outside with SPF 30-50 and be reapplied
every 2-3 hours.
You should use at least a shot glass size each time it’s reapplied,”
said Dr. Weinstein, Associate Professor at the University of Miami
Miller School of Medicine, Immediate past president of the Florida
Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery (FSDDS).
Dr. Weinstein is also a sought-after speaker at dermatological conferences
and is on the Advisory board of the American Academy of
Dermatology. He is also a reviewer for the Journal of the American
Academy of Dermatology. His academic excellence is known throughout
the field, which is why he is called upon to address issues regarding
dermatology and advocacy for patients.
One thing to note – there is an increase in skin cancer. That’s why
it’s important to have a diagnostician who can give you the best care.
“We are a boutique dermatology practice. When an urgent matter
comes up, we get you in that day. You deserve to be seen immediately,”
said Dr. DeVoursney who holds an Executive position with the FSDS.
It is vitally important to know that everyone must have a routine
full body exam. “I’ve found melanoma on patients that came
in for a spot on their body that was benign, but didn’t recognize
a Melanoma. If caught early the prognosis is typically improved,”
adds Elana Aharonoff, PA-C.
All the doctors at Boynton Beach Skin agree that the patient is a
priority. “I think you should go to a dermatologist who believes in
patient advocacy and improving patients’ health and lives,” said Dr.
Weinstein, who has a framed copy of the Physicians Prayer on his
wall. In this creed it states clearly the patient is the sole priority of the
doctors’ best intentions and most selfless effort to heal.
Dr. DeVoursney believes Boynton Beach Skin is like an MDVIP
without the fee. “Our approach is centered on excellent care– not just
from the doctors, but from the staff. It radiates forward and everyone
comments on what a well-run practice we have.”
Rochelle from Boca agrees. “Dr. DeVoursney has been above and
beyond the most caring and meticulous dermatologist I’ve ever met.
His office is run exceptionally well, and his staff is kind and always
willing to take their time. Dr. DeVoursney is truly outstanding and I
recommend him without any hesitation.”
Sanford Sadja feels the same way about Dr. Weinstein. “Dr. Weinstein
is professional, knowledgeable and is easy to talk to. I have
complete confidence in his opinion and treatments.”
Both doctors are board certified and have written and lectured extensively
about skin care and Mohs surgery. Their team also includes
Dr. Rama Vitla, Elana Aharonoff, PA-C, and Robyn Burres, PA-C.
Dr. Weinstein, immediate past president Florida Society of Dermatology and
dermatologic surgery, and past president Florida Society for Dermatologic Surgeons
“Our doctors are knowledgeable in the field of dermatology
and cosmetic surgery. “We try to get to know the patient as best
as we can. We treat people holistically. I am inspired to help people
– it gives me a euphoric feeling,” said Dr. DeVoursney.
Dr. Weinstein concurs. “My intention is to do the best thing
for the best interest of each patient. Our core value and mission
statement allow me to feel good about what I do, which is to give
excellent care to my patients.”
Boynton Beach Skin is also a boutique dermatology practice
that specializes in state-of-the-art cosmetic procedures that take
years off your appearance. They offer CO2 Laser to diminish
wrinkles, Dysport, and fillers by Restylane, that are non-invasive
and can increase collagen to ensure a youthful appearance.
“We do what you want – it’s not about what the doctor wants,
it’s about what’s bothering you. We don’t up-sell, we want you to
look natural,” said Dr. DeVoursney.
“Boynton Beach skin is patient-centric and patient education
is key. We offer seminars and live demonstrations of fillers so
that before a patient even decides to have a cosmetic procedure,
they know what to expect,” said Elana Aharonoff, PA-C who also
lectures on skin health and aging for Bethesda Hospital.
The doctors offer a personalized touch - everyone from the doctors
to the medical assistants and receptionists - reinforce a unified
mission of compassion and excellence. “Boynton Beach skin
provides excellent care and exemplary leadership in their field.”
mother’s day in delray beach
Mother’s day
“It’s not easy being a mother.
If it were easy, fathers would do it.”
~From the television show The Golden Girls.
By Linda brown
We agree with the Golden Girls -
so here are a few ideas on how
to make Mother’s Day special...
Shopping
While flowers, food and greeting cards
are a given, you’ll also want to make sure
you take care of Mom with a beautiful gift.
We recommend that you shop local this
Mother’s Day season. You don’t have to
venture out of Delray to find jewelry, fragrances,
fashion and more. In a shameless
plug, we urge you to use Atlantic Ave Magazine
to comb for ideas and deals. And tell
them we sent you!
Dining options
There’s no shortage of options for a memorable
Mother’s Day brunch, lunch or dinner
in Delray.
Frankly, you cannot go wrong taking mom
to virtually any restaurant in Delray. Our tip
is simple: make a reservation.
Delray’s culinary reputation makes it a
Mother’s Day hub so early reservations are
a must.
The good news is Delray offers all sorts
of options: beachside dining, downtown
sophistication, ethnic cuisine, garden views,
golf course views—it’s all right here.
The main thing is to make sure that Mom
doesn’t have to cook on her special day.
But if Mom would prefer to dine at home,
visit the Delray GreenMarket at Old School
Square, and pick up fresh local produce for
a home-cooked meal!
Started in 1996 by the Community Redevelopment
Agency, the GreenMarket has become
one of the most popular and charming
aspects of “the season” in Delray Beach.
At the GreenMarket you’ll find more than
65 premier food vendors featuring farm-tofork
produce, just picked citrus, tropical fruit
and juice, farm fresh eggs, raw milk and butter,
artisan cheese and jams, fragrant baked
goods, plenty of gluten-free, vegan and organic
products, fresh cut flowers, plants and
other unique gourmet fare along with live
musical entertainment each Saturday.
It won’t be difficult to whip up something
special for Mom from the GreenMarket
Cookbook ($12).
The GreenMarket is at Old School Square
Saturdays from 9am to 2pm through May 18,
then moves to the Delray Beach Tennis Center
Saturdays in June and July from 9am to 12pm.
Culture
We always recommend a visit to our
jewel, Old School Square. Treat Mom to a
membership, purchase a ticket to an upcoming
show or simply visit the museum.
You will not be disappointed. Or better yet,
show your love by naming a seat in the
Crest Theatre after your mother (we did):
Call 243-7922 for more information.
To get a taste of Delray’s diversity, visit the
S.D. Spady Museum on Northwest 5th Ave.
And for something different, check out
the Morikami Museum and Gardens. Always
a delight.
If nature is Mom’s thing, don’t forget the
Sandoway House Nature Center on A1A.
Or a trip west to Hagen Ranch Road may
be in order.
Green Cay Nature Center overlooks 100
acres of constructed wetland and provides
educational opportunities about this unique
habitat. The wetland features 1.5 miles of
elevated boardwalk featuring interpretive
signs about the habitat. The Nature Center
includes a lecture hall, gift shop, and live
animals in an extensive exhibit room that
highlights wetland attributes.
Finally, if Mom hasn’t been to the Arts
Garage make sure to check it out.
For an early gift, we recommend buying
tickets to The Blues Beatles who will perform
at the Arts Garage May 18 at 8 p.m.
Blues Beatles is a blues band that mixes
the melodies of the Beatles with traditional
Blues arrangements, a mix that has been
winning in Brazil, USA, and Europe. The
band has worked and reworked many different
songs since it was formed, but only
the ones that sound natural to their ears
stay in the repertoire.
For information, please visit www.artsgarage.org
Pampering
Once again, Delray is chock full of pampering
options from yoga and fitness classes
to massage therapy and skin care treatments—take
your choice. Surprise Mom
with a gift certificate and make sure to add
a gift card for lunch.
Happy Mother's Day!
After thirty years on Key Biscayne the Miami Open had outgrown its scenic
home. In 2017, the Miami Open signed an agreement with Miami-Dade
County to move the annual tournament from the tennis complex in Key
Biscayne to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens starting in 2019.
80 | May 2019 | www.AtlanticAveMagazine.com
Over $500 million dollars were spent in additions and renovations
to transform the Hard Rock Stadium and accommodate
the event. Along with a14,000-seat stadium within a
stadium, the new tennis portion of the grounds features 29 permanent
tournament and practice courts. The Hard Rock Stadium venue
offered tennis fans a comfortable spectator oasis showcasing the
culture, food, art and entertainment of South Florida, highlighted
by the largest video board in tennis to catch all the action.
Throughout its history, this tournament has attracted many of
the top men and women tennis players, and this year was no exceptionwith
names like Federer, Djokovic, Williams, Osaka and more.
The total prizemoney of $3,645,000.puts this tournament in the top
three of non-Grand Slam events on the tour.
The event set numerous attendance records for the history of the
tournament with an overall record attendance of 388,734 spectators.
The spaciousness of the new facilities - even with setting records
on 15 of its 24 sessions - it never felt overcrowded. The new
facility and the ease of access to the stadium makes the future of the
Miami Open in its new home lookvery bright.

Time To Sculpt
Your Summer Body
South Florida summer is upon us. As the weather
warms up and South Floridians hit the beach, one thing
on many people’s minds is getting in a bathing suit.
South Florida residents are known to generally live a healthy
lifestyle with exercise and healthy eating being a priority
among many of us. However, the majority of us still have stubborn
areas of fat despite diet and exercise. Non-invasive fat reduction
treatments are on the rise given the fact that these technologies
have little to no downtime. Coolsculpting® still leads as the
world’s #1 treatment in this category. More than 6 million Coolsculpting
treatments have been performed worldwide.
Coolsculpting technology works by non-invasively cooling the fat
cells to a temperature at which they freeze and crystalize. The crystalized
fat cells are then broken up immediately after the treatment by
a manual massage. Over the next 1-3 consecutive months the fat
cells are eliminated naturally by the body. Each session of Coolsculpting
permanently removes an average of 20-30% of the
fat cells in the area treated. Most patients need between
1 to 2 sessions of Coolsculpting depending on their
areas of stubborn fat. Coolsculpting is the only
device on the market that uses freezing technology
to eliminate fat cells, in comparison to
other heat based devices that may only temporarily
shrink fat cells. Since we are born with a
set number of fat cells, the ones removed with
Coolsculpting will not grow back.
Treatments are quick and virtually painfree.
There is little to no downtime, and in
fact most patients can resume their normal
fitness routine the same day or following
day. As Coolsculpting is not a weight loss
procedure, it is best for those patients
close to their goal weight or BMI
who have stubborn areas of fat despite
diet or exercise. It is a sculpting
procedure to slim selective
parts of the body
Aside from sculpting areas of stubborn fat another major body
concern I often hear from patients is treating their skin laxity. Loose
skin can occur on any part of the body and thankfully we now have
amazing options to treat this as well. Radiofrequency and Ultrasound
based devices have long been used to tighten loose skin. At Delray
Dermatology + Cosmetic Center we have a new generation tightening
device called Exilis Ultra 360 that combines Radiofrequency with Ultrasound
for deeper penetration, enhanced results and a more comfortable
treatment compared with most other devices on the market.
The Exilis Ultra 360 can tighten the skin on any area of the body including
the lower face, neck, abdomen, arms and legs in a series of 4-6
treatments with no downtime!
With both technologies for sculpting and tightening, we now are
able to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient depending
on their needs. With “fire and ice” treatments we can combine
Coolsculpting with Exilis Ultra 360 treatments for the best
results.
At Delray Dermatology + Cosmetic Center, we offer
some unique features for our Coolsculpting patients.
By having two machines, we can treat two areas of
the body at the same time to cut treatment durations
in half. We have the latest machines and applicators
for highest efficacy and shortest treatment
times. All of our treatments are supervised by our
Board Certified Dermatologist and Medical Director,
Dr. Francesca Lewis, MD, FAAD, who has extensive
experience with Coolsculpting. During the
Coolsculpting treatment, our patients are treated
to a comfortable spa like experience during their
visit with us and can even enjoy watching Netflix
in their treatment suite. In addition, we offer
Coolsculpting membership options for those who
would like to treat multiple body sites with special pricing
for a year and credits towards Botox, fillers and facials.
Helping One Child At A Time
Barbara Stark is what you might call an
overachiever. Her resume reads like a fiction novel
that was played out over time in an idyllic land.
But sometimes reality is equal to – or greater - than fiction. Stark
knows how lucky she is, and she is grateful for her fortuitous
career and loving supportive family.
“I was encouraged to be anything I wanted to be. My parents said
if I worked hard I could do anything I wanted to,” said the Long
Island native.
Stark listened intently and took dad Jack and mom Florence literally.
She graduated high school in three years (Summa Cum Laude)
and got her Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree from Adelphi University
in Communications.
Stark was ferocious in her academic endeavors and took to a
steady career path that eclipsed the moon in terms of stellar achievement.
One of her first jobs was at Cablevision, where she worked for
legendary media tycoon Charles Dolan (who started HBO). She began
as a marketing assistant and became the Director of Marketing.
“Working for Mr. Dolan taught me a lot. I learned how to be a promotional
writer, and he taught me that we learn by listening to others.
Even if you don’t agree with them you still listen.”
Stark was an on-air personality, writer and hosted an entertainment
show. From Cablevision she went to work at Avis as the Director
of Direct Marketing. There she was part of the team that created
Frequent Traveler Awards Programs. She not only traveled the country
(working 80 hours a week) but also taught communications at
Nassau Community College at night.
After giving birth to two sons, Stark slowed down and left the corporate
world. She did, however, continue teaching college. Like most
of her aspirations, meeting her husband came along like a mere ray of
sunshine. “I was working at an optical store when I was 18-years-old.
One day a customer came in wanting some information about contact
lenses. After we met Steven asked me out and we got married.”
Stark not only had loving and supportive parents but her cousins,
grandmother and aunts all lived across the street from her growing
up. When some of them relocated to Florida, Stark and her husband
followed. “We vacationed in Florida – and loved the Florida lifestyle,
so we moved here too.”
While exercising at the Levis JCC in Boca, Stark befriended a woman
who introduced her to the marketing director. Soon Stark become
their assistant marketing director. She also had a change of heart
about her career. “I really liked working in the non-profit world. I
got to use my marketing, writing and speaking skills and making my
mark on the world.”
Her next career move was to United Way of Broward County. She did
fundraising, marketing and became steeped in the selfless steering of
something greater than herself. “The more I learned about non-profit
world the more I wanted to work for them. I wanted to serve people.”
So that’s what she did. Stark found her way to the Milagro Center in
Delray, and for the past eight years has been their President and CEO.
It is at Milagro Center that Stark’s life has come full circle. As a fearless
cheerleader and educator for children less fortunate than herself,
she has the platform to transform lives and share the gifts she
was given as a child.
“I had the best childhood. In my neighborhood (Massapequa
Park, NY) there were so many children. I also had a beautiful childhood
– we didn’t have a lot of money, but I got love and acceptance
from my parents.”
In her role at Milagro, Stark has free reign to be the loving and supportive
parent to children who often lack that pristine form of child
rearing. The children come to Milagro after school by bus and enter a
world of possibilities. They are introduced to the arts, math, science,
robotics, music and other enrichment programs for their inner and
outer growth.
They also get a hot meal, adult mentoring, homework help and tutoring
from certified teachers. “I love having a direct impact on the
kids and sharing their successes. One child recently told me she feels
good raising her hand in school, ‘it feels good to be smart’ she told me.”
Stark also imparts the wisdom that was passed down to her. “I tell
them they can be anything they want to be if they work hard. We help
them succeed. Our philosophy is to instill confidence in these children
and help them feel like they can conquer the world.”
And if anyone knows about conquering the world, it’s Stark. That’s
why she knows that reflection time for children helps them calibrate
their mood or emotional discourse.
When a child is having difficulty, they can go to the “thinking
space.” They can read, use a mini-iPad, do artwork or meditate. “This
teaches a child to be self-aware and gives them space to get centered.
Then they can go back to the group. We are pro-active, not reactive,
we are about communication. Everyone’s voice is important.”
If that sounds familiar, it is. The words of Mr. Dolan still ring true
for Stark, as well as the encouragement she received as a child. It’s
being passed on to a generation of children who thrive in the caring
compassionate world at Milagro.
“It’s been a journey. I always loved children and the way they think.
When I first came to Milagro it was K to 5th grade, now we have a
middle school and high school program,” said the mother of Jared,
an attorney and Matthew, a psychiatrist (and grandmother of two).
Stark wants everyone to know that an undertaking such as Milagro
Center is not a one-person endeavor. “It takes a village to accomplish
what we do. I want to acknowledge our board of directors, supporters,
community collaborators, teachers and administrators who are
caring and passionate professionals.”
And it goes without saying that Stark is grateful for her biggest
supporter, her husband Steven.
Il Contadino Ristorante
Homemade Food Made With Love
By diane feen | Photos by melissa korman
Every day Michel Menna goes to work
with one thing in mind – to create a
superb culinary experience for guests.
It’s something that drives him to change the menu daily to make
his restaurant, Il Contadino, a destination for foodies everywhere.
Menna has taken old world charm to the max. The wine bottle-lined
interior of this cozy space is reserved for those who understand
that great food is a byproduct of the chef. And in this case
Menna takes his role quite seriously.
Just ask those who frequent this Pineapple Grove eatery every
week. “I eat here so often because the food is second to none. So
many people frequent Atlantic Avenue, but they’re missing the relaxed
atmosphere of Pineapple Grove, especially Il Contadino. They
have the best selection of wine on the Avenue. This is the best kept
secret, it’s a hidden treasure,” said Jim Benoit, who was dining with
his wife Brenda and friends Sandy Roth and Sandra Adda.
The Beniot party was feasting on homemade Chicken Cacciatore
with large chunks of potatoes, green pepper, onions and herbs with
chicken on the bone in a tomato sauce. Menna also made Wild Mush-
Chicken cacciatore
Homemade eggplant lasagna
Wild Italian mushroom and truffle risotto
room Truffle Risotto and the most wonderful homemade Lasagna
with melted mozzarella and beef in a San Marzano Marinara sauce.
The Lasagna was perfect in consistency, flavor, taste and presentation.
As a special treat he also whipped up homemade Shrimp Bisque
Soup in a light cream sauce that was a tribute to its namesake.
Though we live in Florida the temperatures have been dipping quite
a bit, hence the reason for appreciation of something as warm and
nurturing as soup. But as Menna always says, “My guests who come
here know they don’t have to look at the menu because I know what
they like. I will custom make dishes specifically to please my customers.
You can have anything from a fish dish to veal with freshly
prepared sauces and ingredients.”
That is why people come from all over to taste his homemade
cuisine that is a far cry from those you see on typewritten menus.
“This is the best Italian food in Delray, hands down. The owner Michel
is amazing, warm and funny. From the delicious homemade
bread to the tableside cooked vodka cream sauce to the simplistic
caesar salad, everything is prepared with finesse,” said Aaron Bova.
If you like Penne Vodka, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find one
of the best versions of this Italian staple at Il Contadino. Served piping
hot this Penne Vodka is torched in the pan with fire and cooked
with vodka sauce and a light cream sauce at your table. It is not
only a delight to watch, but the flavorful rich taste of the sauce will
please your palate immensely. “This is one of the best Penne Vodka
dishes I have ever had,” said one enthusiastic guest.
Il Contadino also has an extensive collection of wines from all regions.
“I have 1000 different bottles of wine – some are vintage, and
others are from as far back as the 20s. You tell me what wine you like,
and I will find it for you,” said Menna, who keeps those bottles nearby,
some on the wall right behind you. The Chianti Reserve is our favorite.
Chef Michel’s passion and personal attention shows in every
aspect of your dining experience. His dishes are creative, the presentation
is outstanding (flower pedals abound) and there is always
something special being cooked up in the kitchen. There are
specialty homemade pastas, table side cooking, fresh fish (he only
serves what is brought in fresh that day) and other Italian favorites.
Chef Michel also has special Wine Dinners, but you must call to
inquire about dates and times. Il Contadino is also the perfect place
for private parties and special occasions. “We can rent out the entire
restaurant for your party – whether it be for business or a family
affair. The interior space (or outside patio) is so romantic it will
leave a lifetime of memories.”
Joanne Frenzel sees the beauty in the calm of Chef Michel’s restaurant
as well. “If you missed this incredible gem, tucked away on
NE 2nd Avenue in Delray, away from the hustle, bustle and noise of
Atlantic Avenue, make a point to treat yourself to the IL CONTADINO
experience. Chef Michel’s passion and personal attention shows in every
aspect of your dining experience. His dishes are creative, made of
the best and freshest ingredients - a far cry from standard Italian fare.
Spaghetti with Roasted Peppers, Short Rib Meatballs and Key Lime
Pie are just a few of the treasures. The wine selection is exquisite.”
The outdoor seating under the trees – weather permitting –
makes you feel like you’re in Italy or a romantic island. The oldworld
restaurant interior has comfortable seating, crystal chandeliers
and is the perfect setting for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day
or any holiday. “Our recipe for corned beef and cabbage is the best
you will ever find,” he said.
James found this out firsthand. “This is my favorite restaurant
in South Florida. Michel has the largest wine selection available in
any restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food is all made to order and
is the absolute best in Delray. Want something you don’t see on the
menu? No problem. Michel will prepare anything you want, any
way you want it. You will never be hurried either. Michael is a most
gracious host and goes out of his way to make your dining experience
memorable.”
He sure does.
Zucchini Appetizers
Zucchini is a summer squash that looks like cucumbers but
have a very different texture and taste. Summer squashes
have a high water content and thin edible skin. Zucchini is the
most popular of the summer squashes and are in season from
May to August. Make sure to pick smaller younger zucchini
with shiny unblemished skin since these have the best flavor.
ingredients
3 cups finely sliced
zucchini
1 cup Bisquick
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp snipped parsley
directions
tip
This recipe can be made
ahead, served warm,
room temperature, or
even cold. It also can be
served for breakfast, and
it travels well too!
½ tsp salt
½ tsp oregano
Dash of pepper
1 garlic clove minced
½ cup vegetable oil
4 eggs beaten
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a 13x 9 pan. Mix
all ingredients well and
spread evenly in pan. Bake
until golden brown. Let
cool and cut into squares.
BY Bill Piechocki and Dr. Diane Sudduth, DVM
Why Is Pet Health
So Confusing Today?
There seems to be a great deal of confusion among pet owners
about what is healthy, normal or sick which can equate
to very expensive veterinary bills. We are often being taught
that our pets cannot stay healthy without a barrage of vaccines, flea
and tick medications, heartworm medications and specialty highpriced
pet foods. Medications are only designed to treat disease.
They prevent nothing. Many of these products claim to keep our
pets healthier and yet we see the onset of more health issues such
as cancer, diabetes, allergies, eye problems, skin and coat issues,
anxiety, behavior issues, kidney and liver failure, pancreatitis, heart
issues…and the list goes on.
Younger generations may not realize that fifty years ago, our
pets were rarely diagnosed with any of these problems. Our pets
ate our food, cleaned our plates after our meals, supplemented
from the scrap barrel at the butcher shop. Most of today’s medications
and vaccines did not exist and yet we spent very little on veterinary
care unless there was a serious injury or accident. Dogs
and cats living more than twenty years was not unusual. This
should still be their normal life span.
If your pet has any of the issues we have today, why weren’t
they an issue before all these modern protocols were developed
by the pharmaceutical companies and the new business approach
of veterinary care? Why are you paying hundreds if not thousands
of dollars for extensive testing only to be told that your sick pet
has no clinical issues?
Common issues such as diarrhea, vomiting, scratching, itching,
chronic anal gland and ear problems, tear staining and paw chewing
all have a common source that you rarely hear of. Has your
vet ever mentioned the toxic side effects of the drugs they recommend
and prescribe? Have they educated you in the necessity in
today’s toxic world, the need to cleanse your pets through detoxification?
Maybe they should mention that some of these issues
described above are symptoms of the body cleansing.
Diarrhea and vomiting are housekeeping by getting rid of the
bad stuff in the body. While they can be symptoms in most disease
issues, it is a part of a healing process. When the body eliminates
toxins, the body can begin the healing process. It is only an issue
if we feed dry foods as a primary diet which, by nature dehydrates
the body. The primary medical issue with these symptoms
is dehydration. A standard protocol of care is the use of antibiotics
before any testing is done and complicates the treatment and
healing process.
If we are not educated in our pet’s well-being and the essential
nutrients from their ancestral diet, how can we feed them for optimal
health? Is kibble available in nature? Do wolves and lions
shop at vitamin stores? Does any creature in nature ever cook
their food? They eat every meal raw with no adverse events. They
have been eating this way and drinking natural herbal teas via
puddles forever.
The answer is not always in modern chemistry and pharmaceuticals
but is most likely in nature. Open your mind and your eyes.
Your pets will love you even more.
Naomi! This poor girl has been waiting 6
months for her forever person. Naomi has feline
leukemia, which means she’s pretty normal
except that she cannot be with other cats. She
is not contagious to humans, dogs or other
animals, just felines. This precious girl deserves
a real home and has so much love to give.
Haven is just a kitten who was rescued with a
severely injured back paw. We saved her but
her leg needed to be amputated. But don’t feel
sorry for this girl...she gets around just fine and
is a playful, happy kitten in every sense! That
little gimp in her step is not even an issue to her
and all she wants now is a loving home.
Doris is just one of our adorable blonde pups
up for adoption! This little one is a 3 month old
Labrador mix and she’s here with her look-alike
siblings, Daniella, Lester and Lucas. Our pups
are adopted quickly, so hurry in to meet this
litter of beauties or our other puppies!
All animals are up-to-date
on vaccinations and
heartworm tested.
Adoption fees $110 and up.
