Tietê River, Serra do Itapeti and investments in the improvement
of sanitation are trademarks of the city
recognized as an Environmental Preservation
Area (EPA), which would bring more financial
and human resources for its preservation.
In the case of Tietê River, the city has invested
continuously in improving the indicators of
sewage treatment. In 2000, the city treated
0.5% of sewage produced. Since then, the city
has built a new treatment plant and has invested
in urbanization, expansion of the network and
new sewer pumping stations. With this, in 2017,
Mogi das Cruzes treats 61% of the sewage. Work
in progress and in project, with resources already
guaranteed by the Federal Government, will raise
this index to 71% in the coming years.

Mogi das Cruzes has two valuable natural heritages
- Serra do Itapeti and Tietê River, which appear
in practically every city image. Because of this, the
Municipal Administration carries out significant work
in the area of environment.
Serra do Itapeti has, at its top, Chiquinho Veríssimo
Natual Municipal Park, a reserve intended to both
environmental education and monitored visits. In
addition, currently the City Hall works to ensure that
the entire mountain - a total of 5,100 hectares - is
