TRAVEL
CONQUERING THE
FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN
by : Sylvester Sy
BUS STOP DIVE RESORT
THE FIRST-HAND SIGNAL
THAT MOST SCUBA DIVERS
LEARN IS THE "OK" HAND SIGNAL.
Nothing is better than packing your bags and
hitting the road for a well-deserved OOO (outof-office)
summer escape. Philippines has been
widely known for its fine white-sand beaches,
pristine islands, and crystal clear turquoise
waters. However, there seems to be one
breathtaking activity that a lot of travelers tend to
overlook—diving.
Skin diving or freediving is a popular underwater
recreational sport for those who are interested in
exploring deeper waters beyond what snorkeling
allows you to do. It also provides an alternative for
those who aren’t so keen on trying scuba diving
just yet.
For years, the fear of the unknown is what kept
me from exploring the depths of the oceans—
especially without a life vest. Yes, I can swim from
end to end, but the idea of submerging myself a
few meters under the sea was frightening.
To be honest, I've already taken an introduction to
freediving last year. But I was so busy with work
after my first dive class and was not able to go
back diving again until I recently decided to take a
refresher course.
Nine months later, I’m back in Batangas—
this time, not in Mabini but its neighbouring
municipality, Bauan. Getting to the Bus Stop Dive
Resort in Bauan was easy. It took us less than
three hours from Manila to arrive at the pickup
point at Summer Cruise.
From there, you will need to take a boat ride
going to Bus Stop Dive Resort. As soon as we
reached the resort, the resort’s friendly staff
welcomed us. Then we checked in to our fan
room, which is an upgraded package from the
regular freediving package from Juan Dive Pinas,
since the one included in their package was a tent
accommodation. The resort has this laid-back
vibe, which I really liked. I actually enjoyed the
place. Especially in the morning while everyone
was asleep—as you can literally hear nothing
but the sound of the waves on the beach and the
gentle chirping of the birds.
SURFACING, ASCENDING BACK TO THE WATER SURFACE
FOLLOWED BY RECOVERY BREATHING.
Day 1: Introduction to Freediving
(Juan Dive Pinas: Tuklas)
The class was tailored for everyone—swimmers
and non-swimmers. The intro module
will walk you through the basics of freediving,
where you will learn the techniques
and you will be diving in the open water. As
you learn the basics, they will also equip
you with the knowledge on freediving safety
measures to fully boost your confidence as
you go underwater.
Before getting our feet wet, we first started
our dry training, which is the breathing exercise
or the dry breath-hold as they call it.
Dry breath-hold simply means holding your
breath out of the water.
We started with normal breathing, inhaling
through the nose and exhaling through the
mouth. We practiced inhaling through the
mouth to fill the stomach with air first then
moving it up to our lungs, holding it for
awhile before we exhale.
Another very important skill we learned
from our dive instructor was how to equalize
our middle ear. We equalize to release
the pressure from our ears. NOTE: If we
dive without equalizing our ears, we can
experience painful and damaging middle ear
barotrauma.
The first equalizing technique is called the
Valsalva Maneuver. It is done by taking a
deep breath while pinching the nose and
blowing gently. The next technique is called
the Frenzel Maneuver. It is done by taking
a deep breath while pinching the nose and
closing the back of your throat, as if you
are straining to lift a weight then make the
sound of the letter "K”.
4 | VILLAGE PIPOL MNP @villagepipol

IF YOU LOVE SUNSETS, THEN I’M SURE YOU’LL LOVE THIS PLACE.
IT HAS THE BEST SUNSET VIEW I HAVE SEEN!
The correct way of doing this should release
the pressure from both ears simultaneously.
There are other more equalizing
techniques out there but these two are the
most common. It is not important which
method you use, what is important is that
you find the right one that works for you.
The breath holding exercises and the equalization
techniques may seem easy but trust
me you’ll surely need a lot of practice to get
this done correctly.
Freediving Safety
Our instructor also reminded us that safety
is paramount in freediving—as we are
often pushing our bodies whilst holding
our breath. Consequently, the number one
rule in freediving is that you should NEVER
FREEDIVE ALONE! We should never freedive
without a qualified buddy with us at all
times.
As soon as we are finished with our dry
training, we started going into the water.
Our first exercise is called “down the line”
where we have to go underwater, one by
one while holding on a rope and equalizing
once we reached certain depths. The
goal is to reach the end of the rope, but of
course everyone has their own pace. Even
though we were encouraged to go deeper,
we were not forced or pressured to do
more than what we are comfortable with.
The second exercise is “duck dive”. TBH,
this part of the exercise was challenging for
me. However, after trying a couple of times
you’ll soon be able to duck dive correctly.
You just need to practice more to get this
part of the exercise. The duck dive is a
basic skill in freediving, which allows you
to dive underneath smoothly. It is a critical
dive method that helps the diver to smoothly
go deeper and properly utilize its oxygen
up until the surface.
Keep in mind that it is best to focus on your
dive on your first day so do not to bring
your GoPro.
Day 2: Fun Dive
Today is the day when we started to
practice all the things we’ve learned from
yesterday’s training. The dive instructor
would stand by and watch us as we dive.
He shared us his observations on what
aspects we need to improve on. More
importantly, this is also the time when he
captured our dives using his GoPro.
As I mentioned earlier, swimming with a life
jacket has always been a necessity for me.
My fear of open water swimming has kept
me from exploring deeper waters. However,
after learning how to freedive, it totally
changed my perception of the ocean. I'm
no longer afraid but instead excited for my
next dive! It actually made me invest on my
own freediving gears! That's how excited I
am for my next underwater adventure. If I
can do it, I’m sure anyone can!
Overall, I had an excellent stay at Bus Stop
Dive Resort. It is a cozy, budget-friendly,
and well-thought-of resort paired with a
friendly touch of hospitality. I can’t wait
to go back next month for another fun
dive adventure. If you are looking for
some new adventure this summer, I highly
recommend to take a freediving beginners
SCHOOL OF JACKS AT BUS STOP IN BAUAN, BATANGAS
course at Juan Dive Pinas. Not only will it
help you conquer your fear of open-water
swimming, but will also instill a deep
appreciation for the ocean.
The underwater world is a wondrous
place. The moment you submerge, you
have access to a fascinating universe filled
with rich biodiversity. Every time you sink
beneath the surface, you learn something
new about the ocean.
SEA you again soon Bauan, Batangas! n
A woman could always tell you: Anything a man could do, she could do better. Well, she’s not wrong…
Women are starting to leave their mark on every industry and career path. Frida Kahlo is an artist,
becoming an important figure for social causes including feminism and LGBTQ+ rights. Amelia Earhart
advocates for equal opportunities as she proved her competence. Angelina Jolie also became wellknown
for her humanitarian work and philanthropy. Oprah Winfrey represents every woman and
pioneered the Women’s March, #TimesUp and #MeToo movement. These women all work in a maledominated
industry but still continued to thrive in their own ways.
They continue to prove that there is always something special when a woman dominates in a man’s
world. Although men can do all those things, a woman would do it with more compassion, inclusivity
and warmth. Women would walk in with a poised stature, soothing voice and eloquent words to express,
guide and inspire. In every moment, she could wear her sky-high heels to easily shatter the glass ceiling
above. A woman will take the lead and proves that she can do it better. She could do it while wearing a
heavy set of lashes, snatched brows, a contoured face and a bright red lipstick. Truly, the
sky remains the limit to what women could accomplish.
SHE TAKES THE LEAD
Women’s month may have ended but
empowering them will never cease. It awakens
the sleeping warrior inside all women, ready
to fight for their basic rights as actual human
beings. Inspired by the people she encounters
every day, Kris Bernal demonstrates how tough
and ambitious she could be when it comes to
handling her own lipstick line, She Cosmetics.
She speaks with such charm and wit, her smile
never leaving her face. She lights up the room
as she walks in, ready to pounce on a challenge
and take another risk.
When asked to describe an empowered
Filipina, Kris thought for a long time and says
this with a proud smile. With her phone in one
hand and her healthy meal in another, she looks
like just any other woman taking her time to
conquer another industry. She spoke with such
knowledge and understanding, letting you
know that she is truly a woman of substance.
Her statement could also be a description for
herself as the face, the brain and the heart
behind She Cosmetics.
Just like any woman, Kris puts herself where
she truly belongs: in a place where decisions
are being made. She truly has that certain
strength, intelligence and prowess to go
beyond. Although she already thrives in the
entertainment industry, Kris decided to enter
the world of business. At the age of 29, she
has starred in several television shows and
established three businesses so far. She made
a name for herself as both an actress and an
entrepreneur through hardwork and dedication
even with her jam-packed showbiz schedule.
SHE IS AUTHENTIC
Kris is actually a sweetheart but faces
the camera with ember running through
her eyes ready to catch fire. She is
authentic. Although she is confident, she
has her own doubts in starting her own
journey in the cosmetics industry. At first,
she actually didn’t plan on using it as the
name of her company, which would mirror
the actual brand and what it represents.
“At first kasi, it’s Kris Bernal, it’s Kris
B but… walang dating… parang
ang vain lang tingnan na it’s so much of
me. So, I wanted a brand that speaks
about women and of course, I can
incorporate it with my journey… nung
ni-build ko ‘yung She Cosmetics… I
wanted a brand na would empower
women to pursue their dreams just like I
did throughout the journey of building She
Cosmetics.”
She is just a simple pronoun that
describes a woman. However, she remains
a memorable and stylish person to ever
walk the ground. She comes together
with other women with a collective
intention, making her such a powerful
being. She embraces her own uniqueness,
swims across the oceans and stands on
a pedestal. She has the same power as a
sword, a gun or a pen.
However, sometimes feeling afraid and
doubtful could mean that you’re in the
right track. This doesn’t mean that you
should drown yourself in those negative
thoughts. Plus, successful entrepreneurs
embrace their own fears and take a leap
of faith. Just like every other person, Kris
felt scared in pushing through with her
dreams. Swatting away her competitions,
she conquered her apprehension and
overcame her uneasiness.
Top by Sandy Cheeks | Trousers by Elize Padilla | Wearing SHE's On Fire
“Ang tagal ko na siyang fino-formulate at
pinag-aaralan tapos sakto naglalabasan
na ‘yung iba’t ibang brands… Siyempre,
they are big companies, diba?
Parang, they have their team for different
departments. Ako, isa lang ako…
May graphic artist lang ako, may social
media manager lang ako. So, parang
nagkaroon rin ako ng mga insecurities…”
Thinking about her journey, Kris reveals
that she is the team behind her passion
project. Although women are powerful
enough and can do everything better, one
just can’t do it all at once. Superheroes
may be bulletproof but they sometimes
still get tired and lose, too. She handles
everything from digital marketing to
customer service on her own. She literally
reads feedbacks and answers questions
from satisfied customers using her own
devices.
12 | VILLAGE PIPOL MNP @villagepipol

“You can do anything but not everything
[all at once]. Kasi ako, ginagawa ko lahat,
eh pero at the end of the day, pagod na
pagod ako. Parang [naiisip ko na], bakit
hindi na lang ako mag-hire ng ibang tao.
Kahit secretary, wala ako… Kahit ‘yung
magre-replysa inquiries… sobrang dami
nun, grabe! Ako pa rin! Minsan, sasabihin
ng mga tao, ang sungit daw ng customer
service ko, ‘di nila alam ako ‘yun… Kaya
mong gawin lahat pero ‘di mo kayang
[pagsabay-sabayin]… Kailangan mo pa rin
talaga ng ibang tao.”
When a woman loves something, she tries
her best to find another one or recreate it.
This could be a delicacy that makes your
mouth water or a type of lipstick you can’t
seem to put away. Kris’ love for lipsticks
spawned She Cosmetics. Just like her
idol who was recently named as the
youngest billionaire, Kylie Jenner. They
both became a lipstick fiend, collecting
the colors they love on themselves. With
this, they started their own lines of liquid
matte lipsticks as a launching product
for their own companies. Although Kylie
Cosmetics inspired She Cosmetics, Bernal
made her own formula that nourishes and
moisturizes the lips.
Swimsuit by Sandy Cheeks | Cover Up by Kim Jao | Wearing Go Girl
“My love for lipsticks brought me to build
She Cosmetics. So, it started when Kylie
Jenner put up her own lipstick line. She
started also with liquid matte lipsticks. So,
‘yung akin din liquid matte lipsticks and it
was inspired from the colors of her [first]
collection. But the formula, of course,
is very different. I tweaked it because I
focused on the dryness and made sure
that it is moisturizing… and I made sure
that it will never crack or damage your
lips.”
However, there is a usual complaint
about liquid matte lipsticks: it’s too dry!
Since Kris has her own huge collection of
lipsticks, she took this as an advantage
to learn about whether or not a woman
would like a lipstick formula. As a onewoman-team
for her own company, Bernal
looked for a manufacturer that could help
her produce her line.
“Liquid matte lipsticks tend to dry talaga.
That’s the usual complain about liquid
matte lipsticks. Ako kasi, I have a big
collection of lipsticks. So, alam ko ‘yung
panget at sa magandang formula. Pinagaralan
ko siya hanggang sa nakakuha
ako ngKorean manufacturer na magma-manufacture
ng She Cosmetics.
Finally, nakuha niya ‘yung formula na
talagang gusto ko… [Plus,] ‘di siya
‘yung regular na lipstick mobut also it
heals and nourishes the lips.”
SHE EMPOWERS WOMEN
Handling everything on her own made Kris struggle to find a balance between her work and personal life. Her schedules are jampacked
as she continues both her jobs as an actress and entrepreneur. However, she hardly finds a time to go to the salon to get a nail
fix or a new hairstyle and take care of herself. It also doesn’t seem that simple to go shopping and just enjoy.
“[Sa work and personal life balance] ako nags-struggle ngayon, ‘yung schedule. Kasi, ang dami ko nang binibigay, lahat na,
sa business… Nawawalan ako ng time sa sarili ko. Siguro ‘yun yung pinaka-mahirap ngayon. Alam mo ‘yung simple lang na… magsalon
ka, mag-shopping ka… Hindi ko na nagagawa, hindi ko na maalaagaan ‘yung sarili ko kasi ang dami kong ginagawa. Dun ako
hirap na hirap.”
Pursuing business as a woman could be challenging in a man’s world. However, we’re starting to enter the era where women are being
treated equally the same as their male counterparts. Businesswomen are breaking down the walls and defying stereotypes in such
world. When a woman dominates, her fellow women would rush to her support. Kris knows this and shared the biggest advantage of
being a female entrepreneur.
“Kapag female entrepreneur ka, mas supported ka ng [fellow] women mo or parang… mas nagsusuportahan kayong mga
babae and mas open kayo to promoting each other’s businesses ganun.”
Kris remains supported by many women in both entertainment and business industry. She seems to be running her own world where
every woman flourishes in every color lipstick they would want to wear. She also expressed how anyone can start a business if they
want to, reminding them to keep their passion.
“With the technology now, anyone can do and start a business, eh. So, go for it… As long as nandiyan ‘yung passion mo and you’re
willing to give so much of your time, it would work.”
Although she is having a hard time to balance everything, Kris still encourages those who would want to build their own business. She
believes that it takes a great deal of courage to stand up and determining one’s own story. n
“Nothing is impossible through hard work and determination."
SINGLES RUN 2019
IS A HUGE SUCCESS
The Philippines’ biggest gathering of singles
finally happened last February 10 at the
Liwasang Ulalim, CCP Complex. More than
3, 000 runners happily celebrated their
singlehood with a school fair themed fun
run experience and, of course, prizes from
the generous sponsors made the event more
exciting.
EXCITING ACTIVITIES
Before the main event started, various booths
were placed at the grounds to set the mood
of all the participants. Most of the girls went
to the Marriage Booth to take pictures with
a wedding veil on their head while holding a
bouquet of flowers. Meanwhile, warm hugs
and sweet kisses filled the atmosphere at the
Kissing Booth and Free Hugs booth.
Singles Run 2019 is definitely more than just
a fun run event for all the single people. It
promotes healthy lifestyle through active
SPOTLIGHT
by : Lord Harvey Monteroso
A clap of the hand, a tap on the drum.
Beats form to create the bass of
something worth anticipating. A whistle,
a strum, and a string of crisp tunes. The
melody of a catchy song hums to life as it
plays in the airwaves.
Suit by Burton Menswear
In an industry where music and the arts
can be cold and fiesty, there stands out
talents so grounded and fresh. Where
there is hard competition and ridiculous
fan fare, a harmony of up-and-coming
voices emerge to show us how music must
be made and listened to – from the heart.
One of these voices is Psalms David
Toledo Enguero. Also known as
Psalms David, this eighteen-year old,
five foot and eleven-inch head turner is
someone you’d be willing to listen to all
the day.
Barely starting out with his promising
career, he already has the making of a
matinee idol. A head full of curls, a wide
grin, and that boy-next-door appeal.
Psalms is a song you’d be definitely
hooked into for a long time.
Give this a boy a mic, a stage, and some
lights – Psalms David is out to win some
hearts.
WHAT'S IN A NAME?
"My tita gave me my name. She got it
from the Bible. My dad told me it isn’t just
a name. It’s also a declaration – a declaration
of God’s blessing to me, my talent,"
he explains thoughtfully.
Names are powerful – so powerful that,
in ancient times, names were believed to
bring in fortune for that specific person.
Like the law of attraction, names attract
their namesakes.
For Psalms, his name is simply the birth
of a greater calling. By definition, a psalm
is a sacred song. It’s a hymn used during
Christian and Jewish worship. Moreover,
most of the psalms in the Christian Bible
are sung in honor of the great King David.
You know, that shepherd who sung to
sheep and slayed Goliath with a slingshot?
From what his parents told him, Psalms
started singing really young, around five
years old. His father, a music teacher, had
prayed for his talent. Maybe God listened,
or maybe Psalms’ father was a great
teacher. In the end, Psalms’ knack for singing
and showmanship is truly a blessing.
MUSIC RUNS IN THE BLOOD
“All of my Dad’s eight siblings are musically
inclined. They can literally form their
own sibling band. Also, my Mom’s family
is a family of singers,” he proudly says.
Psalms was practically raised in a household
full of musicians. His family’s life
revolves around music. As certainty goes,
music has become a huge part of their
lives. No one can take that away from
them.
When his family found out he was to join a
reality TV competition, they were ecstatic.
Despite coming from a musically-inclined
family, Psalms is the first one from his clan
to be in show business. Rest assured his
family was quite excited and supportive
of him.
KEEPING UP WITH REALITY TV
“It was an unexpected experience for me.
I never imagined myself joining a singing
competition because growing up I’ve told
myself that I wasn’t a powerful singer,
that I wasn’t for singing contests. I know
that I can sing, but I just didn’t think that
I can survive a singing contest,” he says
sheepishly.
Psalms was one of the finalists of GMA’s
first singing competition since 2011’s
Protege. Despite airing last 2018, The
Clash has changed and is still changing his
life. He met a lot of good people, and has
learned so much.
Proudly enough, he believes that his
singing improved since he appeared in
the show. But overall, so much of him
has changed that it still surprises him
sometimes.
“The Clash was a pretty intense show.
Each round was a mystery. It was
definitely a challenge. We had no idea
what was going to happen. And then I was
eliminated! I felt devastated. I even cried
a lot! Not only because I couldn’t continue
reaching for ‘The Clash Champion’ title,
but also because I thought I was going
to leave my The Clash family behind,” he
shared.
Being eliminated early on from the show
certainly broke Psalms’ heart. He felt that
his new found dream to continue singing
on stage was finally over for him. Little did
he know that after the show concluded,
GMA Artist Center signed him up along
with his The Clash family. His experience
on the singing competition was definitely
memorable.
LIVING THE DAYDREAM
“Being an artista isn’t that easy. The real
battle happened right after the show. If
The Clash was tough, the competition in
this industry is way tougher. That’s why
I’m doing my best in every workshop I’m
given. I have to become the best Psalms
David I can be. I need to show my bosses
I’m ready for anything,” he professed.
It shows that Psalms’ eager to learn a lot.
He has been busy with workshops for
singing and acting. He has been giving
his all in those workshops. As someone’s
who’s new in the industry, each day is a
new learning for him.
Top by Mango | Pants by Topman
However, in every orchestral masterpiece,
there’s always a definitive low – part of the
music sheet that drops to show tremor.
As a result of his dream to showcase his
talent to the world, Psalms had to sacrifice
some aspects of his life. One of which is
most of his high school life. He eventually
did home schooling.
“Sometimes I miss having lunch at the
cafeteria. I miss doing recitations, group
projects, the stress of research paper, and
of course my high school barkada,” he
says with glimmer in his eyes.
Despite the change in tone, the lowest
parts bring the greatest drama to any
musical score. Despite the sacrifice he’s
made at such a young age, Psalms managed
to graduate from high school with
flying colors.
THE NEW NORMAL
“I was just a normal school boy who goes to school then go straight home,” he says.
Psalms reminisces going to different schools. He remembers studying at St. James Academy for 7 years. That’s the school his dad
teaches music in. For 11th grade, he decided to enter Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, one of the best schools he’s ever been
to. His life revolved around that school.
“I remembered working so hard in order to achieve the best research paper title. I guess my hard work paid off because I got it,” he
proudly exclaims as he remembered his time in school.
And then The Clash happened during his 12th Grade. He had to transfer to a new school, Children of Mary Immaculate College. There
he experienced students taking photos of him.
“Before, no one noticed me at school. They just know me as the son of the music teacher. And I never really sang at school because,
like I said, I didn’t think I was good enough,” he shares.
Since he was mostly home schooled, Psalms wasn’t required to be at school all the time. He only goes there during exams and some
events.
Whenever he does visit his school, he’d experience people taking photos and videos of him along hallways. As the new kid and a
beginner in showbiz, he definitely felt aloof. But he gradually got used to it. He had to. It was part of his dream. Seeing people smile
made him happy. No complaining there.
JACK OF ALL TRADES
“My fans, who I call Psalmbuddies,
know this. My first love was drawing.
When I was a kid I remember doodling
everywhere. My parents would even use
paper and pens to keep me from being
restless,” he says.
As if the arts didn’t naturally gravitate to
him already, one thing Psalms discovered
during workshops at GMA is that he has a
talent in dancing.
“I remember during our dance workshop
in The Clash I was staying at the back
whenever we study steps because I don’t
want to be seen. But one time our, coach
approached me and told me I dance well
and I have the groove. At first I didn’t
believed it because I know I don’t dance.
My family and friends know it. I know it!
After that day our coach always puts me
in front during classes,” pride is clearly
seen as he said those words out loud.
Another thing he discovered during the
workshops he’s been to is emotions come
natural to him. He soon realized this can
be good for acting.
“I didn’t know what to expect when I
first found out I’m going to have acting
workshops with Coach Ana Feleo. It was
an honor to be her student. I decided then
to give my best in every acting workshop.
One time, Coach told me I have a talent in
acting. Even my co-workshoppers pointed
it out, too. I thank God everyday for these
talents, and I will always give glory to His
name through these gifts He’s given me,”
he says with excitement in his eyes.
JUST A BOY
Psalms is still a normal teenage boy. He
points out that when he’s at home, all he
does is watch Netflix. He also sometimes
does song covers and even draw or
sketch.
“I’m just a normal teenager who’s a big
FRIENDS geek! A Normal teenager who’s
always on his phone – a social media
warrior, as me and my friends call it. I love
listening to music and discovering new
songs and new artists,” he exclaims.
Since he just graduated from senior
high, he’s already planning for to take up
Psychology for college. To him, education
is very important. He believes education
can’t and should never be taken away
from anyone.
Psalms wants to give his parents the best
gift a child could ever give – a college
diploma. He thinks about it for a while.
He then goes on to say he believes he can
balance school and showbiz because his
parents will be there to help and support
him.
PSALMS DAVID AND THE GOLIATH THAT IS SHOW BUSINESS
Much like his namesakes, Psalms David is nothing short of potential. Like a hymn that slowly becomes an anthem. Like the kid who
stood his ground and became a king.
No rhythm nor rhyme, no song nor psalm can express how much talent one man can hold. For a boy barely grasping his place in this
world, the undertones and rigidness of a whole orchestra can either inspire his beliefs or overwhelm his senses.
With a particular set of skills and determination worthy emulating, Psalms is pretty much a pretty boy that can slay a giant. The
tenacity and vigor which he possesses so naturally are strengths anyone needs for this industry. If it’s singing or acting or dancing that
you want, he surely can do it.
Give this boy a better mic, a bigger stage, and brighter lights.
Psalms David is music to our ears. n
Especially, in consideration of the
season that is expected to be bright
and sunny. Despite the less-thanexciting
connotations, it is not entirely
devoid of color. Where it lacks in loud,
punchy hues, it makes up with how
it suits every skin tone, shape, and
personal style.
Curated Instagram feeds boast its
overall warmth, while filling our
appetite with a coordinated tonal and
neutral look. Prominently, the palette
rises to be the epitome of minimalist
chic. One that we should never miss
out whether we opt for some city
chillin’ or beach-frolicking.
Needless to say, beige can be a
deadly shade for summer. Although,
not something we cannot work
our way around. The secret lies in
ingenuity. Likewise, focus more on
the material used and the silhouette
created. This allows freedom of
movement as well as
comfort.
Instead, expand your horizons by
mixing and matching. It’s good to
know that, like any other color, beige
has a family of its own. Ranging from,
but not limited to, ivory, marble,
toffee, coffee, cocoa, amber, cream,
and sand. Choosing softer shades is
perfect for a day out in the sun.
Monochrome light layering gives an
airy feel to your getup. Especially, if
a simple tee is paired with wide-leg
linens or a flowy skirt. Notably, white
helps set it off knowing beige tends to
look heavy on our skin as Filipinos. A
beautiful, classic tailoring
also exudes elegance wherever you
go.
No outfit is complete without accessories. Elevate it with a statement baroque
pearl pendant or delicate gold chains. If you’re out swimming, nothing could
go wrong with a headwear. Pull off a visor if you feel like being sporty, or
surprise yourself with a panama or straw hat. Similarly, a good ole’ trailing cloth
bandana works like wonders. It keeps you breezy sans unwanted hair whip.
Of course, native bags are all the rave this summer. From the famous rattan
to the ark ones, just take your pick. Lastly, saturate and intensify the whole
ensemble with a gradient lip plus a coral eyeshadow. Trust me, you’ll have
enough pop!
