1866 gründete Karl Ferdinand Wicke in Barmen eine Kramwarenhandlung
– der Beginn unserer Unternehmensgeschichte.
Kurz darauf nahm das Unternehmen die Produktion von
Zündplättchen für Spielzeugpistolen auf. Schnell entwickelte
sich Wicke zu einem weltweit führenden Anbieter von
Zündwaren. 1941 erfolgte die Stilllegung als „nicht kriegswichtiger“
Betrieb – ein harter Einschnitt, zumal nach Kriegsende die
Zündwarenproduktion zunächst verwehrt blieb.
Aus der Not heraus stiegen unsere Vorgänger in Geschäftsführung
und Belegschaft nach Kriegsende 1945 in die Metallbearbeitung
ein und feierten 1951 eine Premiere: Bei Wicke
wurden die ersten Leichtmetall-Felgen für Gummibereifungen
hergestellt. Die neue Räder- und Rollen-Abteilung florierte.
Bereits in den 1960er Jahren begann die Herstellung von
Kunststoffrädern aus Polyamid. Seit 1983 verfügt Wicke über
eine Lizenz zur Herstellung von Vulkollan®. Seit dem Verkauf der
Zündwarenabteilung 1990 konzentrieren wir uns vollständig
auf die Entwicklung und Produktion von industriellen Räder,
Rollen, Reifen, Systemkomponenten sowie Polyurethane und
Gummibeschichtungen. Zeitgleich fokussierten wir uns auf eine
erfolgversprechende internationale Absatz- und Logistikstruktur
für die Unternehmensgruppe: 1993 eröffnete unsere erste Auslandsniederlassung
in Frankreich, weitere folgten unter anderem
in Großbritannien, Polen und den USA. Der Produktionsbeginn
in unserem chinesischen Werk 1994 sowie die Eröffnung unseres
tschechischen Betriebs 1995 waren weitere Meilensteine unserer
jüngeren Unternehmensgeschichte. In den letzten Jahren
konnten wir den Wachstumskurs fortsetzen und haben uns vor
allem bei entwicklungsintensiven Speziallösungen sowie als
Hersteller von Schwerlasträdern und Lenkrollen weltweit einen
exzellenten Ruf erarbeitet.
The history of the company began in 1866 in Barmen (today a
district of Wuppertal) when a man named Karl Ferdinand Wicke
set up a haberdashery. He soon started producing percussion
caps for toy pistols, and the company grew rapidly into one of the
world’s leading producers of ignition devices. In 1941, the company
was classified as “unnecessary for the war effort” and shut down,
a heavy set-back compounded by a ban on the production of
percussion caps in the immediate post-war years.
Making a virtue of necessity, the company directors and staff of the
day started in metalworking; in 1951, the company produced its first
lightweight metal rims for rubber tyres and, before long, the new
wheels and castor division was flourishing. By the early 1960s, it was
already manufacturing plastic wheels made of polyamide; in 1983,
Wicke acquired a licence to produce Vulkollan® which it holds to
this day. Following the sale of the percussion caps arm in 1990, we
began focusing exclusively on developing and producing wheels,
castors, tyres, and system components, as well as polyurethane
and rubber coatings for industrial use. At the same time, another
focus for our Group has been on developing the potential of our
international sales and logistics structures: in 1993, we opened our
first branch office abroad in France, followed by others in countries
such as the United Kingdom, Poland, and the USA. Further
milestones in our recent company history include the opening of
our production facilities in China (1994) and the Czech Republic
(1995). In recent years, we have been able to continue our growth,
building up a strong reputation across the world as a provider of
development-intensive custom solutions and wheels and steering
rollers for heavy-duty use.
En 1866, Karl Ferdinand Wicke créé un magasin bazar à Barmen
(aujourd’hui, un quartier de Wuppertal). C‘est le début de l‘histoire
de notre entreprise ! Peu de temps après, l‘entreprise commence
à fabriquer des bandes d‘amorces à percussion pour les pistolets
jouets. Wicke se développe très rapidement et devient leader
mondial dans la fourniture d’allumeurs inflammateurs. En 1941, les
activités de l‘entreprise doivent cesser puisqu‘elles ont été jugées
non nécessaires à l‘effort de guerre. Cela est un coup dur dans
notre essor, d’autant plus qu‘à la fin de la guerre la fabrication
d‘allumeurs inflammateurs sera interdite durant un certain temps.
En 1945, à l‘issue de la guerre, ces contretemps obligent nos
prédécesseurs à varier leur champ d‘activité. Ils se tournent
vers la gestion d‘entreprise dans le secteur de la métallurgie et,
en 1951, ils peuvent enfin annoncer une grande innovation :
Wicke produit les premières jantes en alliage léger destinées
aux pneumatiques de caoutchouc. Le nouveau service de
roues et roulettes de manutention connaît un grand essor.
Dès les années soixante, l‘entreprise commence à produire des
roues en plastique (polyamide). Depuis 1983, Wicke dispose
d‘une licence pour la production de Vulkollan®. Depuis la vente
en 1990 du département des allumeurs inflammateurs, nous
consacrons totalement au développement et à la production
de roues, roulettes de manutention, pneus et composantes
de systèmes ainsi que des revêtements en polyuréthane et en
caoutchouc. Parallèlement, nous avons mis en place une structure
internationale de distribution et de logistique pour notre groupe
d‘entreprises : En 1993, nous avons ouvert notre première filiale à
l‘étranger, en France plus particulièrement, et d‘autres ont suivi au
Royaume-Uni, en Pologne et aux États-Unis. En 1994, nous avons
démarré la production dans notre usine chinoise et, en 1995, nous
avons ouvert notre entreprise en Pologne. Ce sont là d‘autres jalons
marquant l‘histoire récente de notre groupe. Notre croissance s’est
poursuivie au cours des dernières années et nous avons gagné une
excellente réputation internationale par le développement intensif
de solutions spéciales ainsi qu’en tant que fabricant de roues fixes
pour les très grandes charges et de roues pivotantes.
