Solent added a genset for temperature-controlled containers<br />
Solent Transport Services<br />
are first in the <strong>UK</strong> to add<br />
an underslung genset to<br />
Krone’s sliding bogie Box<br />
Liner container carrier,<br />
thereby providing power<br />
for refrigerated shipping<br />
containers.<br />
Based in Southampton, a short<br />
distance from the Docks, Solent has<br />
so far this year added 10 Box Liners<br />
to its container carrier fleet, the latest<br />
two of which the company fitted with<br />
the on-board auxiliary power.<br />
The Krone Box Liners are designed to<br />
carry 20’,30’,40’ and 45’ containers,<br />
two boxes at once or any standard<br />
sized tank. Quick-release twist locks<br />
also ensure fast and easy handling.<br />
For Solent Transport Services<br />
Managing Director, Mike Lewry, this<br />
is a key operational benefit:<br />

throughout the <strong>UK</strong> to all major ports,<br />
so it’s important to use only the most<br />
flexible equipment which will enable<br />

According to the manufacturers<br />
Genmark, the genset runs at just 70<br />
dBa and can handle a 3 x 1-phase<br />
circuit with varying loads, as well as<br />
3-phase loads at the same time.<br />
A 460v/60Hz option is also available.<br />
“Our steady growth, since early<br />
2013, has been underpinned by<br />
the maxim: ‘If it goes in a container,<br />
we carry it.’” adds Mike. “That said,<br />
each customer’s requirements are<br />
individually catered for and since we<br />
added the gensets, we have even<br />
more flexibility to offer.<br />

the distance - both from an<br />
image and low-maintenance<br />

Birmingham-based ICS<br />
Distribution, the garment<br />
processor specialists, have<br />
recently branched out into<br />
exhibition equipment transport<br />
and says the company, the<br />
combined success of both<br />
sides of the business has led<br />
to the addition of a further<br />
10 Profi Liner curtainsiders<br />
from Krone.<br />
From their 400,000 sq. ft. factory and<br />
warehousing facility, ICS handles<br />
around 30,000,000 units a year,<br />
including garments, household<br />
goods, electrical items, Amazon<br />
online and automotive parts.<br />
Orders are processed between<br />
international manufacturers and high<br />
street retailers in the <strong>UK</strong> to achieve<br />
delivery within 48 hours.<br />
“We run an intensive 24-hour<br />
operation” says Transport Manager,<br />
Sid Hill “and the business continues<br />
to diversify into areas where the<br />
opportunities lie. In this regard, we<br />
saw a gap in the exhibition and<br />
grandstand equipment transport<br />
sector and soon needed to expand<br />
our fleet to accommodate the<br />
increase in business.”<br />
Accordingly, ICS specified the new<br />
Krone Profi Liners owing to their<br />
‘excellent build quality, security and<br />
loading flexibility’. Sid Hill explains:<br />
“The trailers come with reinforced<br />
curtains and double-locking<br />
concealed-hinge steel rear doors;<br />
3 pairs of moveable side-posts in 6<br />
different mounting positions; 32 side<br />
planks, sliding roofs and Krone’s<br />
Multi Lock side raves with 2-tonne<br />
strapping points every 100mm along<br />
each side rave. Put all that together<br />
and you get a trailer which loads<br />
easily, can carry virtually anything<br />
and is highly secure. Without doubt,<br />
the best of the ‘Euroliner’ bunch!”<br />
Riding on Krone axles with drum<br />
brakes and Krone Easy Rider tyres,<br />
the Profi Liners are pulled in convoy,<br />
4-5 at a time, by a fleet of high-spec<br />
Scanias - including occasionally<br />
by the company’s flagship, Topline<br />
T580 T-Cab - to destinations<br />
throughout Europe.<br />

for European steel<br />
transport solution<br />
TIP Trailer Services have<br />
supplied a new consignment<br />
of curtainsider trailers to<br />
Middlesbrough-based LV<br />
Shipping to carry steel pipes<br />
and related products for their<br />
customer, the global pipe and<br />
tubes provider, Van Leeuwen.<br />
Manufactured by Krone in Werlte,<br />
NW Germany, the Profi Liner trailers<br />
are a mixture of standard and highcube<br />
specifications – both of which<br />
are designed for the specific needs<br />
of the steel pipe transport sector yet<br />
at the same time, set a high standard<br />
specification for international freight<br />
forwarding.<br />
TIP Trailer Services’ International<br />
Strategic Account Manager, David<br />
George, explains:<br />
“Once again, LV Shipping have<br />
returned to TIP to extend their <strong>UK</strong><br />
fleet. The trailers were specified<br />
through close consultation with<br />
the Krone <strong>UK</strong> sales team; come<br />
with a ten-year anti-corrosion<br />
paint warranty and are certified<br />
to European standard Code XL –<br />
factors which make it possible for<br />
us to offer a long-term lease and<br />
then take the equipment back with<br />
confidence into our rental fleet at the<br />
end of the contract.”<br />
Equipped with additional slot-in side<br />
posts, Krone’s easy-operation sliding<br />
roof and Multi-Lock load-securing<br />
system, the Profi Liners are ideal for<br />
fast and secure loading of heavy<br />
and out-sized cargo. Accordingly,<br />
strapping points are positioned at<br />
100mm intervals along both side<br />
raves, which enables the load to be<br />
safely secured at any point along<br />
the trailer.<br />

For additional strength and<br />
security, the rear doors are steel<br />
‘container type’ with bolted rear<br />
frame, integrated door locks and<br />
concealed door hinges, leaving a<br />
smooth, flat outer surface for easy<br />
livery application. While the steel<br />
front wall comes with bolted corner<br />
posts and is reinforced on the<br />
inside with hard-wearing phenoliccoated<br />
plywood.<br />

Flegg move big machines<br />
with Krone loading flexibility<br />
Leading machinery mover<br />
and installation specialists,<br />
Flegg Projects, have added<br />
two Krone trailers to their <strong>UK</strong><br />
and European freight service<br />
which, says the company,<br />
have the loading flexibility<br />
to cope with outsized and<br />
high-value cargo.<br />
For general work, including factory<br />
relocations, machinery removals<br />
and installations, Krone’s Profi Liner<br />
curtainsider is ideally specified - with<br />
a lifting, sliding roof and extendable,<br />
side-opening rear corner posts.<br />
“This is all about flexible loading”<br />
says Managing Director Jayson<br />
Flegg. “With the Profi Liner, not only<br />
can we load through the roof but also,<br />
by hydraulically raising it 500mm,<br />
we can load large items through<br />
either side and then lower again prior<br />
to transit. In the same way, the rear<br />
corner posts hydraulically extend<br />
outwards to give us virtually 3.5m<br />
loading through the rear.”<br />
To securely hold each item of cargo<br />
in place, Jayson refers to Krone’s<br />
Multi Lock securing system which<br />
features two-tonne strapping points at<br />
10cm intervals along each side rave:<br />
“We use 60 straps and with so many<br />
securing options, we can secure the<br />
load at any point along the trailer.<br />
Add to that, the steel planks with<br />
integrated load locking and the<br />
additional restraint provided by the<br />
Multi Flex chain adaptors and those<br />
loads are not going anywhere!”<br />
According to Jayson Flegg, virtually<br />
everything the company transports is<br />
outsized, uniquely shaped, delicate<br />
and of high value – a typical load<br />
easily exceeding £1m. This, he<br />
adds, is where the attributes of the<br />
second Krone trailer also come<br />
into play.<br />
Built for strength, security<br />
and high load-retention,<br />
the Krone Dry Liner Duoplex<br />
Steel box van is constructed<br />
from insulated galvanised<br />
steel cassette panels,<br />
including the front bulkhead,<br />
which has horizontal internal<br />
reinforcement and a 250mm<br />
fork lift protection strip.<br />
A recessed load lock system<br />
accepts universal loading beams,<br />
ideal for mixed loads, while the<br />
internal walls are reinforced with<br />
a 350mm protection strip.<br />
“The Dry Liners will work mostly<br />
on our medical contracts,”<br />
explains Jayson. “This is where<br />
we need a combination of sound<br />
insulation, secure loading and high<br />
internal volume.”<br />
In this respect, the Dry Liner<br />
comes with flush-fit double-locking<br />
container-type rear doors and owing<br />
to its high strength Code XL-rated<br />
construction, accepts form-fitted<br />
and strapless loads within an internal<br />
height of 2,815mm.<br />
“We’ve been in the business as an<br />
