Water Rates are
Rising
Water rates went up on 1 April 2019
between 1-4%. With each of us using
about 150 litres every day, it’s easy to
see how a family of four will soon be
paying at least £350 each year and
that’s without the standing charge.
To reduce your bill:
• Install a meter - pay for what you use.
• Fix leaks.
Did you know?
TOP TIP
"Alliance Française is a
positive experience for
its variety of teaching
methods and materials
as well as small
classes."
• Completely fill the dishwater or washing machine and only buy water
efficient white goods.
• Reduce the time spent in the shower which uses between 6 - 45 litres
per minute.
• Turn off the tap when cleaning your teeth to save about 6 litres
of water.
• Collect rain water in a butt to use on your garden.
According to the Office of National Statistics men do an average of 16
hours of unpaid household work a week compared to 26 hours carried
out by women. Unpaid household work includes cooking, cleaning
adult care, laundry and driving. Even with these hours of unpaid
domestic chores, 1 in 4 households employ a cleaner in an industry
that is valued at over £24 billion. As great as it is to have the extra help,
if they are not self-employed or employed through an agency you
will be responsible for their employment. This means meeting their
rights including holiday and sick pay, as well as collecting the right tax
and passing it on. There are additional considerations if you employ
someone to live in as you are providing free board and lodging but that
doesn’t mean they are available 24/7. Don’t get caught out, make sure
you get professional advice.
