It is a success story in terms of diversity, 

creativity and flexibility: In ten years 

more than forty „Bolt On And Ride“ themed 

custombike-creations were built 

for customparts-distributor Custom 

Chrome Europe and prowling the roads 

of Europe: On events, trade fairs, or just 

„on Tour“, for advertisement campaigns, 

video-documentations and music-videoclips 

– and occasionally just for the passion 

of riding customized motorcycles. 

The „outsourcing“ of the customizing 

procedure to various manufacturers 

and customizers since 2010 made the 

concept even more flexible and up-todate 

– and has resulted in numerous 

outstanding custombikes. And the success 

story continues... 

Sometimes you have to look forward into the future – and 

make a point. Or create a slogan that will compress many 

factors into one compact sentence, carrying the message as 

long as possible. Few slogans have had an imprint on the 

European custom scene like „Bolt On And Ride“ by Custom 

Chrome Europe, a program that, since ten years already, 

has created exciting, but ridable custombikes, which could 

be built for a reasonable price. At the start of the program 

nobody imagined in which direction – and especially not for 

how long – this „slogan“ would follow the activities of CCE. 

Because at the start, it was only a motorcycle tour: The 

first „Bolt On And Ride“ tour. The route: More than 2.000

kilometers from the Superrally in Seinäjoki/Finland around 

the Bottnian Sea to the Polar Circle and then back south, 

stopping at Norrtälje‘s annual Custom Bike Show, held there 

for more than 40 years and on to Stockholm. Challenged 

by weather conditions, endless roads – and not always the 

most spectacular routes of Scandinavia – but always „in the 

saddle“ and en route to visit numerous remote CCE clients 

which may have never thought they would be visited by the 

CCE Management. And even on two wheels! It would not 

be the last time that the word „Ride“ in the slogan would be 

highlighted in a prominent way. 

In retrospect, it must be remembered that ten years ago, 

„Bolt On“ was not a term that ringed in a positive sense: 

„Bolt On“ stood for everything that a bike owner himself 

could mount to his ride – quick and easy – not as prestigious 

as the then popular and celebrated „one-off“ scratch 

build customs that could be seen in bike shows all over the 

planet. „Bolt On“ had the „taste“ of changing small parts 

and mounting chromed engine covers – anything but the 

massive innovation CCE‘s program would produce during 

the ten years that followed and would introduce increasingly 

sophisticated and exciting parts. 

The year 2009 marked a turning stone not just in the history 

of Harley-Davidson: The bank crisis in the USA – and the 

subsequent loss in buying power – had severe impact on 

the custom scene, especially in the US: In few weeks, the 

creation of expensive one-off custombikes collapsed, as did 

the market of the so-called Harley-clones. The American

custom scene shrank massively in volume – and the expectations 

for Europe were less than great, albeit for other reasons: 

Increasingly tighter rules and regulations would make 

it soon difficult, if not impossible to build the well-established 

CCE kit-bikes and radical one-offs powered by RevTech or 

S&S motors. It was time for a new concept: Bolt On And 

Ride! 

Custom Chrome Europe, Europe‘s biggest distribution business 

specialized on Harley-Davidson accessories- and service-parts, 

always had a close ear to the scene, especially 

since CCE is only distributing to dealers, not the end customer: 

„Which is why it is so important for us to identify 

upcoming trends and styles to adapt our product program“, 

explains CCE Managing Director Andreas Scholz, „the „Bolt 

On And Ride“ program is a perfect tool to achieve this task, 

because we can react quickly to both, new parts as well as 

to new models by the manufacturers.“ Beside the traditional 

focus on all Harley-Davidson model lines, CCE also offers 

numerous components usable for other motorcycles. And

Beaulieu also turned out to be the wettest ever. Just two weeks before, following the trail of the Nibelungs 

down the Danube River tested the Baggers, „Bag‘n‘Red“ already had hunted steam railroads during the 2012 

Harz SUPERRALLY and „Speed King“ had two sunny days in Emmenthal and the mountains of Switzerland. 

the „BOAR“ line-up has already had a 2016 model year Indian 

„Scout“ to introduce the parts for the new Indian brand. 

For the first tour around the Bottnian Sea in 2009, Custom 

Chrome Europe had the bikes built from motorcycles that 

were owned by CCE and customized in-house by CCE 

staff: Softail, Sportster, Dyna and a 2007 model year „Road 

King“ modified to „Bagger“ rolled through Finland and Sweden 

– and were to be further modified by Thomas Sonnet 

in the CCE workshop or his shop „Sonnet Customs“ in Trai- 

sen near Bad Kreuznach in subsequent years. Which was 

perfectly suited for Harley-Davidson‘s then reasonably conservative 

model evolution. 2010 Custom Chrome celebrated 

its 40th Anniversary, adding a Street Glide and the 40th 

Anniversary Bagger to the CCE motorcycle garage. The 

„Tattoo Bike“ by Len Kodlin, extremely sophisticated painted 

by Marcel Sinnwell was introduced at the Dealer Show in 

Mainz and ridden as a „Bolt On And Ride“ bike. It was also 

the bike that sparked the idea to outsource the customizing 

of future BOAR bikes to shops and customizers. The quali-

fication to do so – and the immense creativity of CCE‘s own 

clients – was approved every year at many events and bike 

shows in Faak, Verona and especially the own „European 

Championship“ held at the CCE Dealer Show in Mainz/Germany: 

The great diversity of ideas and the quality of the 

motorcycles exhibited was and still remains impressive to 

this day. 

In March 2011, at the CCE Dealer Show, two Thunderbike 

custombikes premiered that were groundbreaking for the 

following „Bolt On And Ride“ history: The renowned customparts 

specialist from Hamminkeln created – choosing new 

parts of their own program and CCE parts – one Dyna-based 

and one Softail model line „Fat Boy“, which did run the 

complete season and were published in many magazines. 

Still, CCE retained its own fleet of motorcycles to act as 

„testbeds“ for new parts, but not for long! Before the end of 

2011, the further expansion of the „Bolt On And Ride“ concept 

was discussed – and decided that the benefits would 

be worth the risks.

ALL IMAGES: 2014 saw further touring with the BOAR bikes, but the „main event“ of the 2014 BOAR season was 

the filming of the first CCE music video clip „Sexy Thing“ in and around the brandnew CCE warehouse and headquarter 

near Grolsheim. A new Softail – Sexy Thing – was created for the clip and ridden for two seasons to allow 

a follow-up to be filmed in 2015. With the Kuryakyn-heavy „Black Pearl“, 7 BOAR bikes hit the road in 2014! 

For building the now five „Bolt On And Ride“ bikes of the 

2012 season there was no problem to find dedicated customizers. 

With Thunderbike and the Harley-Factory Frankfurt, 

two dedicated CCE-partners (and authorized Harley-dealers) 

came aboard that would be responsible for 

quite a number of BOAR-customs. The „Brighten Rocker“ 

by Mainhattan Choppers completed the iron quintet – and 

gave directions for the planned 2012 „Bolt On And Ride“ 

tour: England! The subsequently „Anarchy in the UK“ christened 

trip along the English Southern Coast and London to 

finally attend the Beaulieu Custom Show was by far not as 

photogenic as the previous and following trips, but without 

question the most „refreshing“: During no other BOAR tour 

it has been raining so intense and durable! As a matter of 

fact, the 2012 rainfalls in England and Wales were the worst 

since 1912 and the second-worst on record ever. Fortunately, 

the 2012 season BOAR bikes did ride other roads too, 

producing more „sunny“ images and a great variety of touring 

stories. Nevertheless, the BOAR bikes rolling over Tower-Bridge,

phenia“ re-enactment image at a London fuel stop remains 

„CCE-classics“. 

And that was just the start! Counting up from Thunderbike‘s 

two 2011 BOAR bikes – and including the 2018 Faak premiere 

„Cross Bob“, again created by Thunderbike – 40 Bolt On 

And Ride custombikes have been built. More, if you count 

the pre-2011 rides and several custom projects that did not 

join the BOAR fleet all season. Top of the list is the Harley- 

Factory Frankfurt, which accounts for no less than nine „Bolt 

On And Ride“ bikes, including several high-class Baggers. 

Hard on their heels Hamminkeln/Germany based Thunderbike 

with eight BOAR projects and three bikes by Maniac 

MechaniX/Gensingen, not to forget his „in house“ work on 

the 2009-2011 „fleet bikes“. Some of the best German customizers 

and customparts-designers of Germany customized 

for CCE, each contributing two customs to the success of 

BOAR history: Rick‘s Motorcycles/Baden-Baden, F. Kodlin 

Motorcycles/Borken, Mainhattan Choppers/Frankfurt, 

Zassels Custom Bikes/Steinweiler. Out of numerous applicants 

for building a „Bolt On And Ride“ bike, Independent 

Choppers/Düsseldorf, Choppers World Gelsenkirchen, Bike 

Farm Melle, Harley-Davidson Nürnberg, Benno‘s Custom 

Road/Bad Camberg, JB-Motorcycles/Elmshorn, TTS/Westerkappeln, 

TGS‘ Tobias Guckel/Tittling-Witzmannsberg, 

Cult-Werk/Aigen im Mühlkreis/Austria, SK Bikes/Bad Kreuznach, 

Harley-Davidson Würzburg Village, as well as in 2018 

Hard Nine Choppers‘ Danny Schneider/Bern/Switzerland 

and MB-Cycles‘ Martin Becker (Heidelberg/Germany) stunned 

the scene with outstanding custom bikes, adding to the 

BOAR heritage. 

„It is inherited in the concept that the „Bolt On And Ride“ 

bikes are as much „showcase“ as product-tester in one 

bike“, underlines Andreas Scholz, „because we listen to the 

feedback of the assigned customizer how easy or difficult a 

component is to be mounted to the project – and we testride 

how the parts work under everyday conditions“. Even 

our sales reps and other CCE staff ride the BOAR bikes 

to improve their product knowledge and experience. The 

„BOAR“ concept had and has positive impact on many levels“, 

says Scholz. Not to forget the „Multimedia“ approach 

followed during the last years: Naturally the BOAR bikes 

grace CCE‘s own publications, catalogues, brochures, advertisings, 

website and Facebook-posts, plus numerous 

„appearances“ in TV documentations at events, where the 

CCE bikes convinced with their individual style and rideability. 

Since 2014, the BOAR-bikes of the particular season 

themselves have become „film stars“ in increasingly complex 

music video clips which introduced their parts in static 

and riding scenes – further promoting the „Bolt On“ theme. 

„Sexy Thing“, „This Is“, „Ride Unrivalled“ and „At Night“ were 

the CCE music videos, produced in co-operation with established 

music-video producer Marcus Arnoldy and – after 

CCE produced even their own version of Hot Chocolate‘s 

„Sexy Thing“ – the last three with songs by „Ruby Shock“. 

Meanwhile the CCE program featured so many sophisticated 

and exclusive „Bolt On“ parts of outstanding manufacturing 

quality and design that differentiation to the cherished 

handcrafted „one-off“ parts were marginal. CCE‘s „Bolt On 

And Ride“ had become a „trademark“ for high-class custombikes 

and -parts. Mission accomplished? 

Not yet – and not for a long time! Introducing the new „Milwaukee 

Eight“ engine and straightening the model lines, 

Harley has opened a new chapter in the manufacturers history 

– and will continue to change its model range in a future 

not too distant! Harley-Davidson, especially in its home 

market USA, is desperately looking for new customizers – 

and will react with new models and even complete new and 

different model lines. „Traditional“ styles will remain popular 

as ever: New „stock“ motorcycles like the „ Heritage Softail 

Special“ as well as CCE‘s latest BOAR bike „Cross Bob“ are 

derivations from 1948 originals – and parts for these styles 

have been Custom Chrome Europe top sellers for years! 

„We will continue to extend the limits – both technologically 

as well as in style – and offer the most innovative alternatives 

to the stock components „, explains CCE Managing 

Director Andreas Scholz, „the 2018 „Bolt On And Ride“ fleet 

is only a beginning, when considering the new „Milwaukee 

Eight“ models“. And there is more: „In terms of BOAR marketing, 

we still have some aces up our sleeves, yet to be 

drawn „, says Scholz, „We certainly have to thank all participating 

„Bolt On and Ride“ customizers for their engagement 

and the creativity which has been a major part of the media- 

and product success. We never forget that we are only 

delivering the „hardware“ for the projects and that its them 

who create these exciting and eye-catching custombikes.“ 

Requests by customizers to join the „hall of fame“ of BOAR 

builders are many, even from other European countries, but 

the motorcycles have to be street-legal in Germany. The 

only exception was this year´s „Hard Nine Choppers“ modified 

Sportster, which base was offered by Baechli Harley- 

Heaven. After the BOAR season it will go back to Switzerland 

as all BOAR custombikes are available for new owners 

after the BOAR-season – ready to ride! 

And one thing is certain: The „Ride“ in CCE‘s slogan is always 

taken seriously! „Soon we will be back „on the road“, 

says Andreas Scholz, „to where these bikes belong!“

CCE BOAR VIDEO 2015: This Is! 

With the success of the „Sexy Thing“ music video clip 

– and the fact that the rights to the song were only 

aquired for one year – the 2015 follow-up was filmed to 

the music of Stuttgart based rock-band „Ruby Shock“ 

which offered the dynamic „This Is“ as a song for the 

video. Filming the again funny plot took place during 

EURO FESTIVAL GRIMAUD 2015 – under often hectic 

and crowded conditions of a main Harley-event! 

Ruby Shock performed „unplugged“ at the CCE party 

and live at the Grimaud Festival on the main stage 

downtown Grimaud. Previous locations were used for 

the film and the legendary light of South France added 

to a great CCE music video clip!

CCE BOAR 2016: Ride Unrivalled! 

„On the road“ from the start of the season, the BOAR 

bikes visited Mecrin and Biker Fest in Lignano/Italy. 

Filming the 2016 music video „Ride Unrivalled“ took 

place in the Pullman City Western Town near Hasselfelde/Harz. 

Since Pullman City was open to the public, 

filming only could take place early in the morning or late 

into the night. By chance, the location and the weather 

offered outstanding opportunities in a landscape close 

to the „Black Hills“ of South Dakota. Even „special effects“ 

were used in the filming, not to forget some crazy 

stunts developed during the filming. The „ride into the 

sun“ had to be repeated 5 times until the last shot finally 

featured all 5 bikes in the frame!

CCE BOAR 2017: AT NIGHT! 

The 2017 BOAR season started early in January when 

„Sportlin“ was introduced during MOTOR BIKE EXPO 

in Verona. „Sporty Spice“ saw considerable action at 

the Chambley Jet Dragster Races and Mecrin and the 

4th CCE Music Video clip „At Night“ was filmed as an 

„Eastern“ around Pasohlavky which saw the EURO 

BIKE FEST and the SUPERRALLY on two consecutive 

weekends! The CCE film team took great care to shoot 

many action sequences, while „Ruby Shock“ performed 

at the SUPERRALLY stage. Again a busy year for the 

BOAR bikes, which were presented at the last Harley- 

Dome in Cologne and took scenic rides into the Isonzo 

valley during European Bike Week 2017.

CCE BOAR 2018: 

The 2018 BOAR season again started in January when 

the first Swiss BOAR bike by Hard Nine Choppers premiered 

at MOTOR BIKE EXPO. Three more bikes followed 

until May and were immediately ridden and presented 

on the events all over Europe and by the CCE staff, 

that again were test-riding the outstanding machines 

by Harley-Factory, MB Cycles and Rick‘s Motorcycles. 

With new M8 Softail parts arriving all through the year, 

Thunderbike built a 2018 model year Street Bob and 

delivered the bike at European Bike Week 2018 where 

it was presented to the public and the press. With the 

2018 season still offering rideable weather, the „Bolt On 

And Ride“ history will continue!

THE PREMIERE: Bolt On And Ride TOUR 2009 

Quote from the 2009 Press preview: 

The 2009 „Bolt On And Ride“ Tour of Custom Chrome Europe is hitting 

the road from May 26th to June 7th. Starting at the SUPERRALLY 

2009 in Seinäjoki, Finland (www.superrally.fi), five different modifiedstock 

“Bolt On And Ride” Harley-Davidson bikes (Street Bob, Road 

King, Sportster, Softail, Street Glide), equipped with CCE accessories 

and parts will do a 1.800 km test-ride from Seinäjoki to the Polar Circle 

and then back down to the legendary Twin Club Custom Bike Show 

at Norrtälje/Sweden (www.custombikeshow.se). The mission: Testing 

parts under normal and “abnormal” conditions. How will Elka shocks 

take gravel roads around the polar circle, who will quit first in freezing 

temperature: Thundermax EFI kits or CCE’s Marketing chief? Do Arlen 

Ness’ Big Sucker” filters like Swedish mosquitos?, Who roars better: 

BSL and Kerker exhausts or the local elk in heat? CCE’s own wheels 

and equipment will be carried out, no matter what the weather will be.

The „Bolt On And Ride“ Softail that made the original 2009 Tour: 

“We have combined a lot of new items in this bike”, said then 

Custom Chrome Europe Motorcycles Manager Gunnar Heinemeyer, 

“each and every one of them could add a new twist to a 

stock Softail”. So frame, swingarm and engine remained completely 

stock, almost every other part was swapped for parts 

from the 2009 Custom Chrome Europe catalogue!

too – the CCE workshop team retained the character as a 

„rider“, but added some „Bobber themed“ components from the

„Wir wollten zeigen, dass „Bagger“ auch in Europa eine Daseinsberechtigung haben“, erklärte CCE 

Managing Director Andreas Scholz in 2009, „und wenn wir den Markt als erste bearbeiten, um so 

besser!“ Dabei wurde am Ur-Modell nichts verändert, was einen Rückbau in den Serienzustand 

unmöglich machen würde: Alle Teile sind „bolt-on“. Der Kenny Day Verkleidungs-Kit erinnert an die 

Electra-Glide und ist mit einem niedrigen Flame-Windshield ausgestattet.


2009 BOAR: ORANGE FLASH 


The only „Bolt On And Ride“ bike of the original 2009 Tour that 

became a name: „Orange Flash“ was in CCE service for some 

time and had changed face many times. Most significant from 

the 2009 Custom Chrome Europe catalogue and well received 

were the Panhead style Rocker covers! In 2009, Sportster-country 

was everywhere: Pasohlávky in Moravia, the 

French Alps and Cote d’Azur, Sweden, 

Finland and Lake Faak in Austria. 

Where ever CCE presented this bike, 

the interest was huge.

2010 BOAR: Tattoo-style „Street Bob“: 

Built by Len Kodlin 

The next generation had arrived on the scene by 2010: Customparts, custombikes, 

customizers and airbrush artists. As it became visible on the new Custom 

Chrome Europe promotion bike, which incorporates all four of them. New 

parts of course, built by Len Kodlin, son of CCI/CCE’s parts designer Fred 

Kodlin and painted by young but dedicated airbrush artist Marcel Sinnwell who 

has created the unique “Tattoo-Style” paintjob which makes the ride 

a real eyecatcher. As in previous years, CCE’s 2008 “Street Bob”, 

now in new colours and with new parts, did see plenty of miles 

on the roads of Europe…


2010 BOAR Road King BAGGER 


Staying in the CCE Fleet to be further modified, the Road King 

Bagger saw many miles on European roads in the 2010 season, 

including visits in Berlin, Spain and Czech Republic, to name 

only a few. Here it is parked above the downtown Barcelona, the 

then still under construction „Sagrada Familia“ visible in the first 

light of the day...

2010 CCI 40th Anniversary Bagger 


Celebrating its 40th Anniversary year in 2010, Custom Chrome 

Europe celebrated in Germany and California – the radical „Bagger“ 

premiered at the 2010 CCE Dealer Show in Mainz/Germany 

and was ridden all year to several events. On this photo it is 

parked at Laak Faak during European Bike Week 2010, the insert 

photo shows Andreas Scholz riding the bike to EURO BIKE 

FEST 2010 in Czech Republic.

The 2010 built Street Glide Bagger was substituting the previous 

customized „Road King“ and received an eyecatching bright 

orange paintjob. Streched tank and cases, RevTech wheels and 

many other accessories from the 2010 CCE catalogue made 

this bike an eye catcher.

2011 BOAR: Fat Thunder 

Modified by Thunderbike 

Starting the 2011 season with a „bang“, Thunderbike 

created two outstanding „Bolt On And Ride“ 

custombikes, „Fat Thunder“ being the Softailbased 

version. A full compliment of RevTech 

wheels, ZCB tailend and many Thunderbike 

components convert the 2010 FLSTFB into a 

cool end elegant Lowrider, which was ridden all 

through the 2011 season.

This ain‘t no „Ladies Ride“! When it comes to rideability, Harley-Davidson‘s Sportster is a real 

performance machine that can be adapted to an incredible variety of styles, applications and 

quite impressive performance. „Coffee Racer“ is Custom Chrome Europe‘s 2012 answer to 

2012/2013 Sportster style and customizing as it is based on a 2012 Iron. 

Upgraded from 883 to 1200 cc, Harley-Davidson Frankfurt created a real street burner that is a 

cross-over of Streetbike, Streetfighter and „New School“ Café Racer. And it reflects the incredible 

amount of different Sportster accessories that are available from Custom Chrome Europe.

2012 BOAR: Bag ‚n‘ RED 

Modified by Harley Factory Frankfurt 

With the Bagger Style in full swing, it was quite naturally to commission the creation of one “all-out” 

Bagger with Custom Chrome Europe “Bolt-On” parts for the 2012/2013 “Bolt On And Ride” bikes. 

Harley Davidson Factory was commissioned to build a state-of-the-art touring bike that would not just 

be a real eye catcher, but also a fully functional tourer for the long haul! Look at the result! A straight 

“Bolt On And Ride” project - the “Bag ‘N‘ Red” is a show quality high-class custombike which has been 

used in almost every Bolt On And Ride Tour CCE performed in 2012. Several thousand kilometers were 

added to the counter – and all riders praised the comfort and rideability of this Bagger.

The introduction of the „Street Bob“ has created quite 

a „scene within the scene“ of Harley-Davidson riders. 

A lot of customizers have started specialising in the 

FX bikes, but also the „allrounders“ in customizing like

the FXDX. Wolfgang 

Hübner and 

Harald Geiger have 

been the „foundation“ of 

Harley-Davidson customizing 

in the Frankfurt/Rhein-Main area. 

But it was Wolfgang‘s son Andreas 

who took on the challenge to build a 

real „Show & Go“ bike for the 2012 Custom 

Chrome Europe promotion bike line-up. Based 

on an early 2006 FXDX, he really created a „glamorous“ 

custom Version of the „Street Bob“.

2012 BOAR: SPeeD KING 


Don‘t mess around with this Ride! What looks like a comfort Bagger with touring abilities is in reality a Powerbike that may as 

well kick your ass on the next Dragstrip! Thunderbike assembled this Torque-Monster based on a fuel-injected 2004 „Road King“ 

using the S&S 124 Cubic Inch Hot Setup Kit. With breathtaking result: The first testrides to dial in the engine already showed the 

potential, but only when the engine passed the 1.000 km mark on the way to Euro Bike Fest in Czech Republic, the power-output 

could be used to its full extend. And it is massive! As a touring bike, the „Speed King“ does really deliver: Forget shifting, you 

have power at each rev-position and under any road condition. Just twist the throttle and there is only one way: Fast forward!

New School, Old School and retro-styled bikes have become a major 

part of the custombike scene – and this will stay with us for a long 

time to come! These motorcycles are a reminiscence of those „good 

old times“ we all cherish and want to remember – and which we like 

to re-enact as often as our hectic times allow. A „time-out“ on Custom 

Chrome Europe’s „Blackline Beauty“ is always a refreshing experience 

– and under some weather conditions you can take that literally! 

Built by Hamminkeln/Germany based „Thunderbike“, the „Bolt-On“ customized 

2012 Harley-Davidson „Blackline“ was one of the most used 

„Bolt On And Ride“ bikes of the 2012 riding season, travelling through 

Czech Republic, England, France and Austria.

Harley-Davidson’s “Street Bob” has re-vitalised the interest on 

high-octane street-burning customs that can perform on street 

and Drag Strip. Rick’s Motorcycles in Baden-Baden has created 

the ultimate streetfightin’ Custom for CCE’s 2013 „Bolt On And 

Ride“ line-up!

Modified by Choppers World / Gelsenkirchen 

Choppers World in Gelsenkirchen has a great reputation for building solid 

and highly rideable custombikes that serve clients well beyond the Ruhr area. 

Creating the “Bobster” for the 2013 Bolt On And Ride CCE tour, was achieved 

besides the “daily business” and proves that any given Sporty can by modified 

into a cool “New School” Bobber. The importance of the “Sportster” model in 

the Harley-Davidson line can never be underestimated: It is the longest serving 

model name in Harley-Davidson history – and although several model 

changes took place to modernize the bikes, both the character and the concept 

remain close. And you can customize the hell out of any given Sportster 

since 1958!

CCE’s 2013 “Cross-Over” Custom: Independent Choppers/ 

Düsseldorf created a “Bolt On” custombike “off the beaten path”! 

Trendsetting for the year 2013 was certainly the „Custom Cross“ 

by Düsseldorf-based „Independent Choppers“ which is a true 

„crossover“ of „Old School“ and „Off Road“ motorcycle sports. 

Frank Sander of Independent Choppers has a name for radical 

and creative custom creations that have received international 

attention. „Custom Cross“ lives up the „Independent“ spirit in the 

shop name – and it is a bike that was „from the heart“ of Sander 

and his team.

Modified by Harley-Factory Frankfurt 

With Baggers remaining a popular customizing theme, Harley-Davidson Factory Frankfurt/Main 

again was commissioned to build a state-of-the-art touring motorcycle for the 

2013 riding season. An extreme Bagger that was certain to clock a lot of kilometers on 

the way to European events – and has created a lot of attention when the cover was 

lifted from the bike at Verona Bike Expo in January 2013. It has caught the eye of Bagger 

aficionados from all over the world, since this bike integrates some of the best European 

Bagger parts and it is – of course – “German Autobahn approved”!


2013 BOAR: Big Bad John

Harley-Davidson’s “Rocker” has a special place 

in Harley-Davidson’s Design history, as it was Harley-Davidson’s 

most ambitious bike to create a true “hardcore” custombike in 

series production. In production only from 2008 to 2011, Harley’s 

customers obviously renewed a lesson to the factory: Individuality 

does not roll off a conveyor belt. Now – with plenty of used 

Rockers hitting the used bike market, the time has come to appreciate 

the “Rocker” for what it is: A superb base for excellent 

customs. Custom Chrome Europe commissioned long-time CCE 

supplier Zassel´s Custom Bikes to create the 2013 “Bolt On And 

Ride” Softail from his quite impressive stock of Rocker C’s.

without doubt one of the (if not THE) 

biggest independent Harley-Davidson 

customizers in Germany, has built a 

great eye catcher in the best tradition of 

this workshop, which has created stateof-the-art 

groundbreaking design-bikes 

that won at Daytona and other international 

shows. Gerd Remmert‘s passion 

for „Old School“ style for his 

private bikes is well known – 

so this custom followed the 

tradition of his own rides 

that won him respect, 

admiration and 

trophies at Faak...


2014 BOAR V-Rod: Brainblaster 


In Europe, the V-Rod has created a new breed of riders that 

probably otherwise would not have taken seat on any of the 

„normal“ Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Introduced in 2001, the 

V-Rod marked Harley-Davidson‘s boldest attempt to establish a 

21st century motorcycle outside the established „image“ of the 

45° air-cooled V-Twin. Custom Chrome Europe had been distributing 

parts for the V-Rod and its offsprings as early as 2004. 

After 13 years of model history – and numerous authorised European 

Harley-Dealers that have accepted and welcomed the 

V-Rod as motorcycle to be individualized to customers request, 

Custom Chrome Europe was increasing its efforts on this field. 

Consequently, Harley-Factory Frankfurt has created 

a brain-blasting power bike that stands for everything 

the V-Rod is popular for: Power and style!

2014 BOAR Sportster: Custom Crawler

A Super-Moto/Tracker/Café Racer crossover: 

Custom Chrome Europe‘s 2014 „Bolt On And 

Ride“ Sportster is hard to explain, unless, of 

course, you ride it! Then it‘s pretty much selfexplaining: 

This is a bike for „rider“ – and riders 

only. By the style, by definition and by its components 

which offer enough seat for one person 

and enough fuel for about 100 km max. Your 

choice, what you can make of it! 1200 cc from 

the Sportster motor offer enough „punch“ to go 

berserk – depending on what tires you mounted 

to the wheels, you can choose the terrain. The 

French „Wöevre“ plain and the accompanying 

„Meuse Heights“ west of Metz offer empty roads 

very much like the Taunus hill around Camberg/ 

Germany, where the bike was built – only that 

the traffic is even less AND there are much fewer 

„No Access“ signs than in ever (over) regulated 

Germany. Just the roads to really let the beast 

loose ...


2014 BOAR Street Bob: Black Bull

It is about eight years since the introduction 

of the „Street Bob“ with 

which Harley-Davidson once again 

moved the Dyna model line into the 

spotlight: Always a motorcycle „pure 

and raw“, the modern Dynas have 

lived up to their reputation for being 

extremely rideable performers. A 

motorcycle for connaisseurs that enjoy 

the thrill of V-twin power at your 

command just by twisting the throttle. 

Underlining and strenghtening this 

characterisation, Nuernberg-based 

authorised Harley-Davidson Dealer 

Fritz Jonak did nothing to hide the 

street-performing nature of his first 

„Bolt On And Ride“ bike. Why should 

he? His shop has homologated the

131 Cubic Inch Jim‘s motor for German road-use and they know performance. Although the 2014 „Bolt On And Ride“ Dyna was not equipped with the 131 Cubic-Incher, 

there is some power boost as well as more than the usual upgrade in style! This is a bike that was built from the riding experience on the narrow and twisting roads of 

the „Franconian Switzerland“ between Nuernberg and Bayreuth – and all roads that come close!

The mid-season addition to CCE‘s „Bolt On And Ride“ fleet was 

built by Harley-Factory Frankfurt to highlight many new Kuryakyn 

product lines and designs at the 2014 European Bike Week. 

A 2013 model year „Electra Glide Ultra Classic“ was the base 

for this full dresser, but all parts are also available for the 2014 

introduced „Rushmore“ models which received an considerable 

upgrade in frame and details.


2014 BOAR: Sexy thing

The stars of CCE‘s first music video „Sexy Thing“: The message of the 

clip doesn’t need any language: Riding a custombike is sexy. Not that the 

CCE team did not know that before, as most of the staff at Europe´s biggest 

warehouse, dedicated only to American-made V-Twins is riding and 

living the V-Twin theme themselves. With the new warehouse in Grolsheim 

fully operational, a fleet of six “Bolt On And Ride” bikes rolling 

from event to event and the 7th bike under construction, the idea was 

born to do something special, something new, something funny – to 

renew the “message” of custombike riding spirit beyond the 

usual “we show you our super cool new parts and lifestyle” 

approach of all-too-serious clips already available on 

internet. Riding a motorcycle is fun – and riding a 

custombike is dedication. So when the 2010 introduced 

“Lucky F*ucker” Kit was scheduled to be re-launched 

in an upgraded and updated version, the timing was 

also perfect to renew the “message”!

As a motorcycle manufacturer, Custom Chrome Europe 

has homologated stunning frames and Custombike 

Kits for European roads, as a distributor, the 

catalogue has thousands of parts that 

keep American-made V-Twins „on 

the road“, including a complete line 

of RevTech V-Twin motors that can serve 

as power source for one-off customs, kit bikes 

and – not to forget – as an fresh and powerful exchange 

for old stock engines, in particular those of 

the Evolution era from 1984 - 1999 which, as builders 

now will confirm, were a bit on the „tame“ side, 

when it came to power output and performance. 

With the RevTech engines in high demand by several 

specialised European builders for their clients 

bikes, the 2014 „Bolt On And Ride“ Bagger would 

again introduce the impressive power of the biggest 

RevTech Motor, the „125“. 140 horsepower and 192 

Nm torque are still impressive for 

any stock V-Twin, let alone 

in a 1995 Evolution!

You really can‘t stop Tobias Guckel from building great bikes: 

Even the commission to build one of Custom Chrome Europe‘s 

2015 „Bolt On And Ride“ motorcycles resulted in a show-stopping 

Café Racer! Which is what everybody has come to expect 

from the world-class customizer whose shop is situated in a 

remote village in the Bavarian Forest. Tobias Guckel has created 

European Champions and always scored high in all competitions 

he entered his motorcycles, in particular his legendary 

„Seppster“ series, numbered I to „III“ so far. When entering 

the exclusive circle of CCE‘s „Bolt On 

And Ride“ customizers, expectations 

were running high – and not 

disappointed! „Speedfreak“ is a 

superb „Café Racer“ interpretation 

that has both - style and 

performance. But the stock 

base – the XL 883 R out of 

one of Harley-Davidson‘s

Ride in style with Thunderbike: Slimming down 

Harley‘s fat-tired Softail-Bobber into a cool Custom 

Ride. Few Harley-Davidsons ever had such a misleading 

and ironic name as the FLS „Slim“: While the 

term „slim“ arouses certain expectations in styling 

and look, the „FL“ designator signals quite the contrary. 

A low seated Bobber version that has its roots in 

the Fourties and Fifties, when the Panhead-powered 

„FLs“ ruled American roads. The task to „slim down“ 

the stock version came to well-established German 

Harley-Dealer and customparts manufacturer Thunderbike 

in Hamminkeln. Not their first entry to the 

„Bolt On And Ride“ bike garage of Custom Chrome 

Europe, but a special one for sure: In 2015 „Thunderbike“ 

celebrated their 30th Anniversary in business!


2015 BOAR Fat Bob: Knight Knuckle

If there is one motorcycle in the Harley-Davidson air-cooled model 

line that truly deserves the term „Muscle Bike“, it would be 

the FXDF „Fat Bob“. Compact in style, one of the lowest riding 

positions of all Big Twins, looking „ready to go“ even when parked 

– and the trademark dual headlight, which makes this model 

easy to pinpoint in any Harley crowd. It‘s only a small but 

dedicated clientele that is asking for this model – most of which 

usually add plenty of displacement or horsepower to the „Macho 

Machine“. For years, basically since 2006, the „Fat Bob“ has 

been overshadowed by the overwhelming success of the FXDX 

„Street Bob“ – which has certainly been sold in greater numbers 

– but there is quite a number of FXDF‘s bobbing around. Enough 

to have a 2012 model year bike customized for the 2015 „Bolt 

On And Ride“ bike pool of Custom Chrome Europe: Wheel manufacturer 

TTS took on the task and completely turned around 

the character of the „Macho Bike“!

Evolution Sportsters would come back into the focus 

of Customizers and Harley-Davidson riders: While 

old „Ironheads“ waving quite expensive price tags,

individual custom jobs that don‘t require the „big money“ to 

modify or upgrade engine or rolling chassis to modern standards.

north of Hamburg, took on the task of converting an „old 

nail“ into this tasty „New School“ Chopper which 

is – believe it or not – only parts that have

premiere date! Alex Sluyter took great care and detail into converting 

the stock bike into a show-stopping eye-catching 

Bagger that remains ridable and was, without 

doubt, one of the most used „Bolt On And Ride“ 

Bikes of the 2015 season! Complete Rick‘s 

tail end, side covers and bags, Arlen Ness 

„deep cut“ style fork exchange parts and 

accessories and fitting Kuryakyn 

accessories like the floorboards add to the 

look of the bike, but the massive 26-Inch 

„T5“ RevTech front wheel is the focal 

point on this „Supertourer“.

2016 BOAR Bagger: Pony Express 


Ride it, Cowboy! Harley-Davidson „Big Bike“ for long-distance 

-touring – the 2016 FLHTCU „Electra Glide Ultra Classic“ – modified 

by Harley-Factory Frankfurt! The „mileeater“ 

chosen was the luxurious „Ultra Classic“, 

already equipped to the maximum of 

what is possible – and Harley’s toptourer 

would be upgraded with a new, 

sophisticated look, not excluding bigger wheel 

sizes. Just available when the conception of the 

bike took place, brand new Performance 

Machine 3.5 x 26’’ wheel named „Virtue“ 

became available – and was about to be 

homologated. Allowing a „Big Wheel“ 

conversion with fully functional „Advanced 

Braking System“ as Harley-Davidson has 

christened their own ABS. It did not 

appear on the paper, but by adding 

the wheel to the parts list, the 

not yet named „Pony Express“ 

became a test bike for wheel 

homologation tests with a 

click on the button ...


2016 BOAR Sportster: Lily

Power and Hi-Tech in Flower-Power „camouflage“: Custom 

Chrome Europe‘s 2016 „Bolt On And Ride“ Sportster can 

really kick some ass! No doubt about that: There is a huge 

number of Evolution-era Sportsters around, waiting to be 

customized. Introduced in 1986, the Evolution XL Sportster 

substituted for the old „Ironhead“ which, thanks to financial 

turmoil in the factory, was produced two years longer than 

originally planned. Few people know that the development 

of the Evo-Sportster paralleled that of the Evo „Big Twin“ 

motor. Few (if any) Evo-Sportster models stand out and 

would be worth being preserved in stock condition, so there 

are little regrets to „customize the hell“ out of any given Evolution 

period Sportster. Not now and not in the future – and 

Maniac MechaniX Christian Denstedt did just that: Customize 

the base 1996 XL 1200 C into oblivion and into what 

is one of the most radical „Bolt On“ Custom-Sportsters of all 

times. Yet ...

Sales Rep Marcel Masaryk hits the 

road first! 

Indian „Scout“ customizing is taking on 

momentum, no doubt about that! As the 

bikes are hitting the road in numbers, customizers 

and dealers of the Indian brand 

modify and radicalize their „Scouts“ – with 

such a cool and powerful base, there is 

a „new country“ to be discovered. When 

Kuryakyn announced the first John Shope 

„Sprint Signature Series“ in August 

2016, Custom Chrome Europe immediately 

looked for a „Scout“ to mount the „full packet“. Just by chance, CCE East Europe Sales Rep Marcel 

Masaryk, never shy of taking a wrench in his hand and modify his rides himself, had acquired a brandnew 

stock Indian Scout that was sitting in his garage. Untouched not for long ...

this beauty ready for the road. One of the major aspects of the

builder and CCE partner – did not waste any 

thought into which model would be converted 

into a cool custom ride for the Grolsheim-based 

distributor: It HAD to be powered by the new 

Milwaukee Eight motor! Because one thing is 

certain: The Milwaukee Eight will not stop in 

the Touring models ...

2017 BOAR SOFTAIL: Hollister

CCE‘s 2017 Ride Unrivalled Softail: Zassels Custom 

Bikes retrofit of a 2003 Softail „Deuce“ takes 

you back to 1947. Cyclist’s Holiday: The “Bolt On 

And Ride” Bike to go back to the Summer of 1947 in 

style – the time when the 

term “biker” was defined 

in the small town of 

Hollister/California, 

which at the weekend of July 4th held its annual motorcycle 

racing event and “Gypsy Tour”. What happened 

then and there has become part of the “biker lore” – and 

has been featured in numerous articles, documentations 

and movies, not the least “The Wild One” starring Marlon 

Brando. But forget Brando, this would have been the perfect 

ride for “Chino”, the “bad guy” character played by 

the outstanding Lee Marvin – and Zassels Custom Bikes 

modified a classic Harley-Davidson Twin Cam Softail into 

a true 1947/48 Bobber, christened as a tribute to the California 

town, not far from Custom Chrome’s own home in 

Morgan Hill. The “Bobber” style has become somewhat 

timeless – and can be applied with ease to almost every 

Harley-Davidson model of the last 60 years. Including the 

then extremely custom-styled 2003 FXSTD “Deuce”.


2017 BOAR Indian Scout: Spyke 

Modified by SK Bikes, Bad Kreuznach 

When introduced to the public at the Sturgis Motorcycle 

Rally in 2014, the „Scout“ immediately got a lot of 

attention by the motorcycle world. Here was a complete 

new motorcycle, quick, powerful and very compact 

that adapted one of the most iconic product names of 

the legendary American motorcycle brand. And not just 

a new motorcycle, it was a fairly radical and modern 

design which did not compromise 21st century production 

demands for public demands and the option to customize 

along long-established paths of a double-loop 

metal tube frame which allows the competing products 

from Milwaukee to be changed in such a wide variety of 

styles. Customizing a given „Scout“ is a challenge, but it 

is possible – and it is possible in an equally wide variety 

of custom styles. „Spyke“ is the rolling proof ...

2017 BOAR: Sporty Spice

Built by Harley-Davidson Wuerzburg Village: 

A stunning XL 883 that blows some pepper up your a..! 

Christoph Repp has been and still is one of the long time 

established specialists of the Franconian scene and his 

Harley-Davidson dealership serves clients well beyond 

his „official“ radius. His popularity is also founded by his 

many Custombike projects which have made him famous 

all over Germany. A well chosen new customizer 

for one of the 2017 „Ride Unrivalled“ bikes in co-operation 

with the CCE staff, the Wuerzburg-village team underlined 

its creativity and excellence with a superb 883 

Iron „Sportster“ that hit the road in March 2017. April and 

May saw the bike „in Action“ on the scenic roads along 

the French Meuse river near Saint Mihiel and at the Drag 

Power Shop in Chambley/France. Almost exclusively 

on tarmac roads for dialing in the engine, but later the 

„off-road“ capabilities will also be tested! Not just from its 

conception, this is a multi-purpose bike that certainly can 

„spice up“ your riding experience!

Bobber-Style is somewhat timeless: In the seventy 

years since the Hollister Gypsy Tour Motorcycle 

Rally the style of the bikes then ridden both on the 

streets and on the racetracks of the decade has 

become one of the „eternal“ looks in motorcycling. 

Today as widespread as fanning out to many other 

brands too, but the „core“ of the true „Bobber“ has 

always been a Harley-Davidson V-Twin. While the 

spotlight now might be on the new „Milwaukee 

Eight“ powered 2018 models, Custom Chrome Europe 

has commissioned renowned Harley-Factory 

Frankfurt to build a 2017 model year FLS based 

„Bolt On“ Bobber, very close to what is the stock 

„Slim“ that rolled from the assembly line from 2012 

to 2017. As a „Showcase“ for the latest Kuryakyn 

parts, the bike features quite a number of different 

design lines of the Somerset/Wisconsin based 

„Design-Factory“ – to show the variety of options 

available. What makes this „last Twin 

Cam“ somewhat unique is not 

the fact that it is built from a 

now „historic“Harley- 

Davidson engine line, but 

that as soon as the first 

2018 Harley-Davidson 

models will arrive in the 

dealer showrooms, likely 

ALL components used in 

this project will be available 

for the new „Milwaukee 

Eight“ powered 2018

2018 BOAR: H9 Sporty 

Modified by Danny Schneider of Hard Nine Choppers 

Premiere at MOTOR BIKE EXPO Verona 2018: The first Custom Chrome Europe 2018 „Bolt On And 

Ride“ Bike was a glamorous Flat-Track Sportster-Ride by Hard Nine Choppers. The choice for Danny 

Schneider as one of Switzerland´s internationally most renowned builders came naturally: Danny is 

known for riding his bikes the hard way – as he had proven during his Freestyle Moto Cross career and 

continued during his subsequent passion with customizing „American Iron“. His cross-over bikes combine 

traditional custom styles with BMX bicycles trends and Freestyle Moto Cross elements, often using 

authentic antique engines as in his legendary „D‘MX“ 1942 Flathead. The lack of horsepower in those 

motors has never stopped him from riding the hell out of his bikes. The „base“ for the project, a 2017 

Harley-Davidson 883 „Iron“ was acquired from Baechli Harley-Heaven, which in 2017 also celebrated a

2018 BOAR Softail: Moccarica

Another CCE premiere for the “Bolt On And 

Ride” bikes: With the introduction of the “Milwaukee 

Eight” motor into an all new rolling 

chassis that united the Dyna and Softail model 

lines into one common frame and suspension 

system, Harley-Davidson 

surprised the world wide custom 

scene in September 2017. While retaining 

2018 

the traditional model designations and names, 

few if any parts of the previous “Twin Cam” 

powered motorcycles would fit the 2018-up 

Softails, creating new challenges as well as 

new opportunities! This was asking for an 

experienced customizer, playing in the “first 

league” of the German custom scene. Rick’s 

Motorcycles in Baden-Baden, long time CCE 

partner, is the first to create a “Bolt On And 

Ride” bike from the new Softail models – and 

the Rick’s team did so with its extreme skills 

and focus on detailing. From a 2018 FXBR 

“Breakout”, Rick’s has created a stunning custom 

“Lowrider” with excellent ridability that 

out-performes many “stock” Harley models.

2018 BOAR Bagger: CCEagle 


If you are a Harley-rider and you opt to acquire a FLTRXS 

„Road Glide Special“, you certainly know what you are 

doing and what you get: One of the most sophisticated 

and extensively developed Harley-Davidson touring bikes 

of all times, already equipped with lots of stock accessories. 

The „Road Glide“ models are true mile-eaters – and 

originally created for America‘s Interstates and Highways, 

thousand kilometres in days are possible on the stock 


bike too! Which the big Harley-Tourers had 

to prove several times when in service at Custom 

Chrome Europe: In ten years of „Bolt 

On And Ride“ history, especially the tourers 

had acquired several thousands kilometres 

on European roads. The Harley-Factory in 

Frankfurt/Main – for years a top address 

for Harley-Baggers and long-time Custom 

Chrome Europe partner, especially when 

it comes to create the challenging „Bolt On 

And Ride“ tourers – lived up to its reputation 

and created the „CCEagle“ as a one-off show 

stopper. If you look at the current CCE Online-catalogue, 

there are already many parts 

for the new Milwaukee Eight tourer – including 

the flagship of the fleet: The Factory had 

no reservation of using this source to the fullest 

extent - and with outstanding result!


2018 BOAR Softail: The Fusion

Martin Becker is one of the „shooting stars“ of the German customizing 

scene. His clean and sometimes extreme custom 

projects have caught the eye of the Custom Chrome Europe 

team not just since his CUSTOMBIKE 2016 „Build-off“ winning 

bike „Murder One“, a tribute to Motörhead and Lemmy Kilmister. 

MB-Cycles is not limited to modify Harley-Davidsons, which is 

another „plus“ on his list – and his bikes, as radical as they often 

seem, are great „riders“. Which is definitely a major point on 

the „to do list“ of CCE‘s 2018 Bolt On And Ride bikes. Martin is 

usually not the „bolt on“ type of customizer, so it took some convincing 

to talk him into building his first CCE bike. But then, CCE 

let the leash hang loose, so there was enough freedom for him 

to create what he can do best: Build a stunning street machine 

for the road!

Custom Chrome Europe 2018 „Bolt On And Ride“ Milwaukee 

Eight Softail Street Bob: Thunderbike’s „Bolt On“ conversion 

does it dirty! 

Time does not stand still, as much as we all want it – and retain 

some of the old values, some old, well etsablished habits – and 

those custom styles that we have come to enjoy through the 

last 6+ decades of customizing Harley-Davidson motorcycles. 

While Harley-Davidson as a manufacturer is venturing off in 

multiple directions to motivate and create new customers to ride 

their bikes, a surprising number of newcomers to the scene still 

cherish the „old ways“ of riding and customizing, be it through 

riding and preserving a real antique motorcycle or by adapting 

old and popular styles to the new Harley-Davidson generation of 

motorcycles, currently undergoing a more radical change than 

ever before in the history of the Milwaukee-based manufacturer. 

As one of the top names in German customizing when it comes 

to all types of custom Harleys from mild to wild, Thunderbike 

again came up with an outstanding retro-look face-change for 

one of Harley-Davidson‘s most popular and undisputedly most 

successful models: The „Street Bob“.

2009-2018 – ten years of CCE Bolt On And Ride Bikes: A short history! 

In 2018, Custom Chrome Europe celebrates the 10th riding season of the theme and slogan that has somewhat revolutionized the 

European custom scene: „Bolt On And Ride“. During the decade, more than 40 stock Harley-Davidson (and two Indian Scouts) 

were modified with customparts distributed by CCE and then ridden to events all over Europe. Every year, new bikes – representing 

classic and new model lines of Harley-Davidson – were modified by some of the best customizers of Germany, Austria and 

Switzerland, adding their experience, creativity and skills to the program, dedicated to test and evaluate the CCE-distributed parts 

under everyday traffic conditions and „on the road“. This is the story and the bikes of „Bolt On And Ride“.
