Modi ASSURES to RESOLVE

Modi said he was sympathetic to the 

issues of the mining dependents and 

assured to work in tandem with the 

State government to find a solution to 

the issue. 

Addressing a huge gathering of 

nearly 30,000 in and out of the stadium, 

Modi said he was aware of the mining 

crisis in Goa. 

“Some time back I had called the 

mining dependents to Delhi alongwith 

our two MPs and held discussion on 

the issue at length,” he said. 

However, Modi said, there are some 

old issues which are causing hindrances 

in solving the mining imbroglio. 

“There are old laws, there is burden 

of corruption of old government and as 

such the mining issue is entangled in 

various such problems,” he said. 

He said he tried to understand the whole 

issues as people’s livelihood is at stake. 

“Be it with legal way or by taking 

your issues to the Supreme Court, the 

Delhi government will always be with 

people of Goa and the State government 

on the issue, that much I can assure 

you,” the prime minister said. 

"I also assure that will not leave any 

stone unturned to solve the mining 

issue. Definitely we will make all 

efforts to remove the hindrances in restarting 

mining in Goa.”, he added. 

Sops for Fisherman 

The Prime Minister further said that 

his government is making all efforts to 

bring about change in lives of fisherman, 

who are part of Blue Revolution. 

“We have made various efforts 

for Fisherman. We have already 

announced a new department and new 

ministry in the budget,” he said. 

Similarly, he continued, his government 

has decided to issue Fisherman credit 

card in line with Kisan credit card. 

“The fisherman will get all those 

facilities, which a farmer gets on kisan 

credit card,” he said. 

Besides, he said, his government is 

trying to make the lives of fisherman 

risk free. 

“The government will give assistance 

for modernisation of the vessels besides 

we will also provide them a device with 

satellite support which would give 

information on weather and so also gives 

indication where is a good catch,” he said. 

Modi tries to impress 

with Konkani 

Prime Minister tried to win the hearts 

of the Goans on Wednesday by starting 

his address to the large gathering in 

the local language Konkani. 

“Saglya geomkarank maye 

mogacho yevkar,” Modi said to a huge 

round of applause from the crowd.

hanged for taking 

photos on this Thai 

beach 

For years, Mai Khao Beach, a skinny 

strip of golden sand in Phuket has been 

super popular with tourists. The reason 

for this beach’s popularity is simple. It 

shares a wall with Phuket International 

Airport and just beyond the barrier 

stretches out the tarmac on which almost 

all flying in to Phuket land. That makes 

the beach one of the few places where 

you can get up close to a landing aircraft 

and maybe even pose for the photograph. 

On the approach, landing aircraft fly 

directly over the beach at low altitude 

before touching down. And what do you 

do if you are lounging on the beach and 

see a massive jet approaching? You take 

a photograph, of course. Aha. 

And now you are in Thai prison 

on death row. This is because Thai 

authorities are imposing a ninekilometre 

exclusion zone around the 

airport. Anyone caught flying drones, 

shining lights or lasers or even taking 

photographs of approaching aircraft from 

the popular beach will face jail time and, 

in some extreme cases, even the death 

sentence. This is according to provisions 

in the country’s Air Navigation Act. 

And while flying drones around 

airports and shining lights and lasers at 

cockpits of landing aircraft are obviously 

dangerous behaviour that could 

endanger the lives of all passengers on 

board, we are less sure of the security 

risks around taking photographs of the 

jets. Thai authorities claim that people 

taking photographs of the landing jets 

from the beach can be distracting to the 

crew in the cockpit. (Maybe it’s because 

pilots feel compelled to take photographs 

of tourists in silly poses waiting to take 

photographs with the landing jets in 

the backdrop. Now we can see how that 

could be a security risk.) 

But for now, taking a photograph of a 

jet might mean another photo session as 

you are being checked in at the closest 

prison. 

London gets world's first 24-hour 

air pollution charge zone 

London is the first city in the world 

to implement a 24-hour, seven day a 

week Ultra Low Emission Zone, inside 

which vehicles will have to meet tough 

emissions standards or face a charge. 

Monday's introduction of the zone, 

known as the ULEZ, aims to reduce toxic 

air pollution and protect public health, 

according to a press release from the 

office of Sadiq Khan, mayor of London. 

Vehicles are responsible for around 

half of harmful nitrogen oxide air 

emissions in the British capital, 

contributing to a toxic air health crisis 

that increases the risk of asthma, 

cancer and dementia as well as causing 

thousands of premature deaths every 

year, the release says. 

"This is a landmark day for our city.

Ola launches 

crowdfunding campaign 

to help build toilets for 

20,000 people across India 

Ola, one of the world’s largest ridehailing 

platforms, on Monday launched 

a nationwide crowdfunding campaign 

to enable building toilets across India 

to positively impact over 20,000 people 

across India. Launched under Ola’s 

‘My Ride. My Cause’ program, users 

will be able to contribute Re. 1 per ride 

from April 2 until October 2, 2019. Ola 

has partnered with Gramalaya, an 

approved key resource centre from 

the Ministry of Drinking Water and 

Sanitation, which will use the proceeds 

in their ongoing efforts to build toilets 

for the underprivileged across India. 

The announcement follows the launch of 

Ola’s April Fool’s video, “Ola Restrooms”, 

which aimed at building awareness 

around the need for accessible and 

hygienic lavatories in India. Highlighting 

the need for more public toilets in the 

country, the digital campaign introduces 

‘Ola Restrooms’, a new solution that seeks 

to address the dearth of facilities. Known 

for its unconventional campaigns, Ola 

used the occasion to draw attention to a 

social issue and turn it into a cause-based 

initiative. 

India and Pakistan last month held 

a meeting of technical experts on the 

Kartarpur corridor during which its 

alignment, coordinates, and other 

engineering aspects of the proposed 

crossing points were discussed. 

Later, the Pakistani cabinet 

constituted a 10-member Pakistan Sikh 

Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee 

(PSGPC) to facilitate Sikh pilgrims 

after opening of the Kartarpur corridor. 

Kartarpur Sahib is located in 

Pakistan’s Narowal district, about four 

km from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine.

past 18 months, dozens of teams across

says NASA 

Washington: A team of NASA 

researchers, including an Indian-origin 

scientist, has found the surface inside 

the International Space Station (ISS) is 

littered with microbes just like in a gym 

or office on Earth-threatening astronauts’ 

health at the orbiting laboratory. 

The knowledge of the composition of 

the microbial and fungal communities 

on the ISS can be used to develop safety 

measures for NASA for long-term 

space travel or living in space, said the 

researchers in a paper that appeared in 

the open access journal Microbiome. 

Specific microbes in indoor spaces 

on Earth have been shown to impact 

human health. 

“This is even more important for 

astronauts during spaceflight, as they 

have altered immunity and do not have 

access to the sophisticated medical 

interventions available on Earth,” said 

Dr. Kasthuri Venkateswaran from the 

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) 

and a corresponding author. 

The researchers used traditional 

culture techniques and gene 

sequencing methods to analyze surface 

samples collected in eight locations on 

the ISS, including the viewing window, 

toilet, exercise platform, dining table 

and sleeping quarters, during three 

flights across 14 months. 

The microbes on the ISS were mostly 

human-associated. The most prominent 

bacteria were Staphylococcus, Pantoea, 

and Bacillus. 

They included organisms that are 

considered opportunistic pathogens 

on Earth, such as Staphylococcus 

aureus, which is commonly found on 

the skin and in the nasal passage and 

Enterobacter, which is associated with 

the human gastrointestinal tract. 

There are currently six astronauts on 

board the International Space Station.

"The findings allowed us to 

concentrate our work on key areas, 

including blocking and removing 

fake accounts; fighting the spread of 

misinformation; stopping abuse by 

domestic actors; spotting attempts at 

foreign meddling, and taking action

He emphasised that Facebook and its 

family of apps were working towards 

making sure that elections (both 

foreign & domestic) are fair and free

Scientists have discovered a new state of 

physical matter in which atoms can exist 

as both solid and liquid simultaneously. 

Until now, the atoms in physical material 

were understood to exist typically in 

one of three states — solid, liquid or 

gas. Researchers have found, however, 

that some elements can, when subjected 

to extreme conditions, take on the 

properties of both solid and liquid states. 

Applying high pressures and 

temperatures to potassium — a simple 

metal — creates a state in which most of 

the element’s atoms form a solid lattice 

structure, the findings show. However, 

the structure also contains a second set 

of potassium atoms that are in a fluid 

arrangement. 

Under the right conditions, over half a 

dozen elements — including sodium and 

bismuth — are thought to be capable of 

existing in the newly discovered state, 

researchers say. 

Until now, it was unclear if the unusual 

structures represented a distinct state 

of matter, or existed as transition stages 

between two distinct states. 

A team led by scientists from the 

University of Edinburgh used powerful 

computer simulations to study the 

existence of the state — known as the 

chain-melted state. Simulating how up 

to 20,000 potassium atoms behave under 

extreme conditions revealed that the 

structures formed represent the new, 

stable state of matter. 

Applying pressure to the atoms leads 

to the formation of two interlinked 

solid lattice structures, the team says. 

Chemical interactions between atoms 

in one lattice are strong, meaning they 

stay in a solid form when the structure is 

heated, while the other atoms melt into a 

liquid state.

Amazon plans over 

3000 'Project Kuiper' 

satellites to spread 

global broadband 

(Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc on Thursday 

confirmed its plan to build a network 

of over 3,000 satellites through “Project 

Kuiper” to provide high speed internet. 

The project will launch a constellation 

of low-Earth orbit satellites that 

will provide low-latency, high-speed 

broadband connectivity to people 

globally who lack basic access to 

broadband internet, the company said. 

Details of the project were filed with 

the United Nation’s International 

Telecommunication Union last month. 

Amazon’s satellite project faces stiff 

competition from similar ventures from 

billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s 

rocket company SpaceX and Airbus-backed 

OneWeb among others. In February, 

OneWeb launched its first six satellites. 

Companies such as SpaceX, LeoSat 

Enterprises and Canada’s Telesat are 

working to enable data networks with 

hundreds or even thousands of tiny 

satellites that orbit closer to Earth than 

traditional communications satellites, 

a radical shift made possible by leaps in 

laser technology and computer chips. 

Earlier this year, Jeff Bezos’ rocket 

company Blue Origin also signed a deal 

with Canada’s Telesat to launch part of 

satellite constellation. 

Japanese firm 

aims to sell flying 

motorbikes by 

2022 

Tokyo: A Japanese company is aiming to 

release a mass-market flying motorcycle 

by 2022, its CEO has announced. 

Tokyo-based venture company A.L.I. 

Technologies Inc., which mainly develops 

small drones, hopes to sell the product, 

called a “hover bike”, in emerging 

economies in Africa, the Middle East, and 

Asia with poor road infrastructure, The 

Japan Times reported. 

“We’ll create a (flying) bike first, in order 

to get flying cars widely used in society 

eventually, ” CEO Shuhei Komatsu said. 

“Our hoverbike is an ensemble of 

drone technologies,” he said, expressing 

confidence that his company can 

commercialise the flying motorcycle. 

The envisioned vehicle will use propeller 

power to hover dozens of centimetres 

above the ground. It will stay at the 

desired altitude through technologies that 

use sensors to avoid obstacles. 

A.L.I. Technologies is developing a 

special limited version for sale around 

late next year. Reservations will be 

accepted in May at the earliest. 

As for the mass-market model, Komatsu 

said: “We want to deliver it to customers 

from around 2022.” 

He said the price will roughly match 

those of mini-vehicles. 

Facebook, Instagram 

and Messenger apps 

won't work on your 

Windows Phone after 

April 30 

Facebook is pulling out its family of 

apps from Windows Phone platform. 

After April 30, Facebook will stop 

supporting Instagram, Facebook, 

and Messenger applications for 

Windows Phone, confirmed a Microsoft 

spokesperson. Facebook also owns 

WhatsApp, but at the moment, there is 

no clarity on WhatsApp support being 

pulled out by the company. 

The decision to end support of 

Facebook, Instagram and Messenger 

doesn’t come as surprise since 

Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform 

itself is officially dead. Also, it is 

unclear exactly how many active users 

the Windows Phone platform has. 

The software giant officially killed 

the Windows Phone business in 2016 

following lackluster sales. It even 

stopped issuing security and software 

updates last year in December 2018. 

As of now, WhatsApp only supports 

Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 

Mobile OS, but it would be just a matter 

of time, when Facebook retires the 

messaging application from Microsoft 

store.

Apple slashes its 

music streaming 

app price in India 

Apple has slashed the price of Apple 

Music streaming app in India by 18%, 

similar to a tactic that Gaana and 

JioSaavn resorted to last month. 

To compete with the international 

brands that are expanding foot-print 

in India, the country’s own music 

streaming giants, JioSaavn and Gaana 

recently dropped their annual fee from 

Rs999 and Rs1,098 (respectively) to 

Rs299, which is also a tactic to keep the 

subscriber rate high. 

However, both Indian services left 

the pricing for monthly subscriptions 

untouched atRs99, which may have 

helped Apple Music decide the threshold 

of their price slash to retain its position 

in India. Since Apple Music now has 

the same price point, it could lead users 

to shift preferences. However, with 

Apple Music's new per month plan, the 

iPhone-maker has become cheaper than

US president Donald Trump’s 

unauthorised use of a track from the 

Dark Knight Rises in a campaign video 

has received a strong response from 

Warner Bros, who’ve said they’re 

taking ‘appropriate legal channels’ to 

have the video taken down, which it 

was shortly afterwards. 

Trump tweeted the video, which 

contains the track Why Do We Fall 

from Hans Zimmer’s score for the 

Batman film, on April 10. The video, 

according to the Wrap, shows images of 

Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary 

Clinton, juxtaposed with clips of the 

president. He captioned the tweet, 

“Make America Great Again,” in allcaps. 

Warner Bros said in a statement, 

“The use of Warner Bros.’ score from 

The Dark Knight Rises in the campaign 

video was unauthorised. We are 

working through the appropriate legal 

channels to have it removed.” 

The studio produced each of the three 

films in director Christopher Nolan’s 

the Dark Knight trilogy, which have 

made over $2.5 billion worldwide. The 

video also uses the same font as Nolan’s 

Batman films.

that Aditya Roy Kapur, besides being

week of its launch in India.

issued a notice by the Archaeological 

Survey of India (ASI). The ASI has 

ordered Salman and his team to remove 

two set pieces of the film which were 

being constructed at the historic Jal 

Mahal in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh. The 

notice also consists of the clause that 

the film's shooting might get cancelled 

if the filmmakers do not pay heed to the 

above directive. 

According to reports, the production 

house was being informed previously 

also regarding the same but no action 

was being taken on their side. As per 

the notice, the film crew have violated 

the norms of the Ancient Monument 

and Archeological Sites and Remains 

Act 1959 by constructing the set there. 

Moreover, the Dabangg team has also 

been accused of damaging an antique 

figurine at one of the forts located 

nearby the banks of the river Narmada 

in the town of Maheshwar. According 

to the eyewitnesses, the figurine got 

damaged while the set of the film was 

being removed from the fort.

The EC schedule states that the last 

date of nominations is April 29, the 

date of scrutiny of nominations is April 

30 and the last date for withdrawal is

constituency since 1994. 

Goa to ban SINGLE USE plastic 

The Goa government is planning to 

bring in a legislation to ban single-use 

plastic items like straws, cutlery and 

bags in the state from September, an 

official said on April 11. 

The government wants to make 

an amendment to the Goa Non- 

Biodegradable Garbage Control Act to 

ensure a complete ban on the singleuse 

plastics, a senior officer from the 

state panchayat department said. 

The amendment is currently being 

drafted and is likely to be introduced 

during the state Assembly's monsoon 

session. 

"The legislation is aimed at banning 

manufacture, supply, storage and use 

such plastics in the state," the official said. 

It is expected to come into force 

from September this year, the official 

said, adding that it will empower the 

government to impose fine on those 

who violate the law and also penalise 

those who litter in public places. 

The coastal state has total 34 

registered plastic manufacturing units.

exam hall. She is my hero, 

says Anand Mahindra 

A class 10 student is going viral on the internet after a video 

of her riding a horse to school was posted on Twitter. Anand 

Mahindra called the girl his hero and said he wanted a picture of 

the horse and the student as his screensaver. 

A class 10 student from Kerala’s Thrissur 

district is taking the internet by storm 

with her horse riding skills and it is not 

something you would ever expect. 

According to a now viral tweet, 

the girl was spotted on the roads of 

Thrissur galloping on a horse trying 

to reach her exam centre. 

So obviously as soon as the video 

made it to Twitter, it immediately went 

viral. The video of the girl riding the 

horse was first shared on Twitter by a 

user called @manoj_naandi. His tweet 

currently has over 8,400 likes and over 

2,700 retweets. 

In the viral video, one can see the 

girl riding a white horse dressed in her 

school uniform with her schoolbag on 

her back. 

The video was first shared on Twitter

After launching the insanely fast LS-218, 

Lightning Motorcycles has now unveiled 

an entry-level electric sportsbike, 

the Strike. The electric motorcycle is 

available in three variants: standard, 

mid-range and Carbon edition. 

Lightning claims that the standard 

variant has a top speed of 217kmph and 

a range of 113km in the city and 161km 

on the highway. The entry-level electric 

motorcycle tips the scale at 206kg. 

The mid-range variant is almost 

identical to the standard variant, but 

the battery capacity has been increased 

to 15kWh. This increment in battery 

capacity translates to a longer range 

(168km in the city and 240km on the 

highway). However, the power remains 

the same as the standard variant. Also, 

the mid-range variant is 5kg heavier 

than the standard variant. 

The top-of-the-line Carbon edition 

is where Lightning has gone all out, 

though. Not only does it get 122PS of 

power from the same electric motor as 

the other variants, it also features some 

high-end cycle parts as well. Sample 

this: Ohlins suspension at both ends, 

Brembo brakes, an AIM Strada racing 

dash with lap timer, and GPS-based 

data logging. And as the name suggests, 

it gets carbon-fibre body panels as well. 

The company claims that the Carbon 

edition has a range of 241-322km 

(city/highway) while top speed is 

electronically LIMITED to 241kmph! 

While the entry-level standard 

variant is priced at $13,000 (around 

Rs 8.98 lakh), the mid-range and the 

Carbon edition are priced at $17,000 

(around Rs 11.75 lakh) and $20,000 

(13.83 lakh), respectively.

Govt plans to make 

Andamans major 

tourist hub like 

Maldives, Mauritius 

A series of development projects have 

been planned by the government to 

give a tourism boost to the picturesque 

Andaman and Nicobar Islands to make 

them a major tourist attraction like 

Maldives and Mauritius. 

Key projects for the all-round 

development of the Andamans include 

premium tents and tree houses, 

mangrove interpretation centre, turtle 

observatory centre, island hopping 

facility, beach shacks and sunrise 

points, premium island resorts, beach 

promenade, nature trail and camping 

facility besides other infrastructure. 

These projects are expected to bring 

in investments of more than Rs 650 

crore and have in-built condition of 

60 per cent local employment, a Home 

ministry official said. 

The Andamans is world renowned for 

its pristine natural beauty, rich marine 

life, flora and fauna spread over 836 

islands, islets and rocks. The islands 

present picturesque views with rich 

culture and heritage. 

"The pristine water with world class 

beaches and shallow reefs are a major 

attraction for tourists. Our aim is to 

make Andamans an attractive tourists 

destination similar to Maldives and 

Mauritius," the official said. 

Paving the way for 'Ease of Tourism', 

30 islands have already been exempted 

from the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) 

regime and requirement of mandatory 

registration of foreigners arriving in 

the archipelago within 24 hours of their 

entry has also been done away with. 

The water-sport industry has been 

given a big boost and water-sport 

regulations and guidelines have 

been simplified, duly considering the 

safety aspect of users while honouring 

operator's interest. 

The islands have witnessed an 

increase in number of licenced diving 

centres, whereas adventure products 

like sea walk and para sailing have 

been newly introduced. 

The bed and breakfast scheme 

has enrolled 40 home stays, 121 tour 

operators have been registered since 

2014 and a state-of-art sound and light 

show facility has been installed at the 

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island. 

Floating jetties have been installed 

at various tourism islands and orchid, 

butterfly gardens are being developed 

to attract nature lovers.

3. After Prime Minister Narendra 

Modi and the Crown Prince signed 

eight MoUs, the mandir was officially 

announced at the Presidential Palace 

as a Golden Amrut Kalash in the 

presence of the sadhus of BAPS. 

4. Modi laid the foundation stone for 

the temple during a visit in 2018. It’s 

likely that he will also inaugurate the 

temple on 20 April this year. 

5. The temple is said to be a replica of 

the Akshardham temple in Delhi and 

another BAPS temple in New Jersey. 

6. With seven spires that represent the 

UAE’s seven emirates and five ornate 

domes, the temple sports every feature 

of a traditional Indian temple; it was 

built according to the ancient Hindu 

shilpashastras (Sanskrit scriptures of 

architecture). 

7. Every corner and crevice made of 

pink stones from Rajasthan and marble 

from Macedonia are supposedly handcarved 

by Indian artisans. These pieces 

of the temple were shipped to the UAE 

and assembled there. 

8. Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu temple boasts 

a cultural and spiritual centre with six 

to seven prayer rooms, play areas for 

children, lush gardens, vegetarian food 

courts, a library, gift store, exhibition 

halls, a visitor’s centre and more.
