Macedonia, of course, is a part of Greece, yet now, since I am following the nature and shape of the places geographically, I have decided to classify it apart from the rest of Greece and to join it with that part of Thrace which borders on it and extends as far as the mouth of the Euxine and the Propontis. substantial character with, the more right the nearer<br />
they approach to individual substances, so that the<br />
species deserves to be called substantial in a higher<br />
degree than the genus.' According to the strict conception<br />
of substance, however, that term cannot be<br />
applied to them at all, because they are predicated<br />
of individuals, 2 and because it is true of them, as of<br />

— not substantive, but adjective—and that they express,<br />
not substance, but a condition of substance. 3<br />
The further marks of substance which Aristotle<br />
gives us, likewise refer, in so far as they are really<br />
characteristic of that conception, to individual substances<br />
