the police officials had barricaded
Moalosi said vagrants were
occupying the building.
His employee, Anele Marawu,
said he was on duty and he and
other workers saw smoke coming
Five people were seriously
injured in a car accident near
Dyamala Village outside
Whittlesea on Tuesday.
Police had not confirmed the
cause of the accident, but
according to residents of the
nearby Dyamala Village who
witnessed the crash, the driver of
the Audi Q7 was attempting to
overtake a bakkie when he
apparently lost control of the
vehicle and ended up on the grass
embankment.
Eyewitness Bonga Quwe from
Dyamala Village told The Rep,
“The maroon car came speeding
from the direction of Ngojini
towards Whittlesea and almost hit
and feared an explosion because
the garage was not far from our
premises.
“So they left while their cars
were being washed and we had to
stop operations.”
Marawu said they had seen
vagrants vandalising the building,
smoking drugs and sleeping inside
the premises.
Police spokesperson Captain
Namhla Mdleleni said the building
was vacant and a case of malicious
damage to property had been
opened and an investigation into
what caused the fire was under
w ay.
attended to an alarm at
a church where they
found that a window had
been broken and
someone had attempted
to enter the church.
Their prompt response
prevented anyone from
entering. At 1am on
a bakkie and then I saw it rolling.
“It seemed the driver was trying
to overtake. We then ran and
called for help.”
An elderly man from Yonda
Village who was at the scene told
The Rep the Audi nearly hit a
sheep before passing his vehicle
at high speed and then crashed
on the side of the road.
He said he immediately stopped
and tried to help the survivors,
then went on to alert the police.
Meanwhile, the male driver and
four passengers, three men and a
woman, all sustained serious
injuries and struggled on the
grass for more than an hour,
waiting for rescue services.
Concerned onlookers were
worried that medical rescue
services and the police took so
long to respond.
Thursday, a security
his people
From page 1
before that he had been
with Mbombela United
in the National First
Division (NFD).
He played one season
for Mbomela in the
division and moved to
Free State. “His
professional career
started very late, but he
never gave up. His goal
was to make a living
playing soccer. He never
stopped working hard.
“His dream was to be
capped for the national
team, at least one cap.
He said that would have
given him peace before
he retired,” said Funda.
His death came as a
shock for the whole Free
State Stars team.
Assistant coach
Themba Sithole
expressed the pain of
the loss. “If he had been
sick, at least one feels
we could have tried to
do something. In this
instance there is just
nothing you can do. We
feel helpless.”
Sithole recalled
working with Jantjie.
“I remember the
challenge it was getting
him from Mbombela
United. They had just
signed him and were not
prepared to sell him.
“We really wanted
him, so we had to work
hard to get him. It was a
pleasure working with
him. As a mature
member of the team he
always listened.”
The disappointment of
Jantjie never playing for
Bafana was expressed
by Sithole, saying, “He
was one of the best
midfielders in the
country. I don’t know
why he was never
considered for the
national team. Few
offered what he had on
the field.”
The same sentiments
were echoed by South
African Football
Association (Safa)
president for the Chris
Hani region, Sandile
Mata. “Very few players
were like him. You just
needed to give him the
ball. He had the
confidence and the skill
to back it.”
Mata knew Jantjie
when he was still
playing in the ABC
Motsepe league for
Angavu Stars.
Sithole went on to
express what Jantjie’s
loss meant to the
football fraternity, his
rise to stardom and
untimely death.
“His story teaches that
anything is possible.
Even if you lose parents
young, you do not have
to give up. They just
need to be dedicated. I
hope his death can be a
lesson to other players.
“We are always losing
players on the road. If
there was something
that could be done to
raise awareness about
the problem, to talk to
our players, I would be
on board.”
Jantjie was on the
verge of a move to
Bidvest Wits at the time
of his passing.
A memorial service for
him was held in
Bethlehem on Thursday
and his funeral service
will take place at his
home tomorrow.

CHDA plans
to focus
on irrigation
ABONGILE SOLUNDWANA
Despite the Chris Hani Development Agency’s
(CHDA) plans to focus on resuscitating the big
and small irrigation schemes of the Chris Hani
district to generate economic development, it is
also facing a number of challenges.
CHDA acting CEO Nontembeko Nomnganga wa s
speaking on Monday at the two-day CHDA
2017/2018 annual report review where she
announced that the agency had received an
unqualified audit – the fourth since 2014.
Nomnganga said the Qamata and Ncorha
irrigation schemes had great potential to be the
biggest agricultural hubs, but they were facing
social instability among community members
which could hinder development in Chris Hani.
“The mayor intervened, but she was not able to
solve the issue. The instability makes it difficult for
investors to come here.
“We also want to focus on smaller irrigation
schemes in places, such as Xonxa and Tentergate
which were closed down. In the coming financial
year, we want to extend the Shilo Irrigation
Scheme in Whittlesea from 15ha to 25ha. We also
want the grapes to be processed here and not in
Cape Town.”
Nomnganga indicated the Qamata-based
mechanisation centre which assisted farmers with
tractors to till the land at lower costs, was a
challenge to sustain.
“Farmers were often not willing to pay the
agency for services. Our purpose is not to
generate an income, but to cover operation costs.
We have since decided that farmers will have to
pay for services up front.”
“In the R522m Queendustria Park project we are
trying to influence the Development Bank of South
Africa, as the implementor of the project, to
benefit 30% of local small, micro and medium
entrepreneurs in Enoch Mgijima with economic
s p i n - of f s . ”
Another area she said needed reassessment,
was the youth skills development platform.
“The jobs we are providing for the youth are
unsustainable and we need the budget to be
increased.
The youth get internships and learnerships
which do not last long. This means that when they
have completed them they have to return to the
unemployed job market again.”
She said investors often had the intention to
leverage opportunities which did not benefit
communities.
Integrated planning and economic development
director Dr Zamxolo Shasha, said the Ncora
Irrigation Scheme used to be the second biggest
in Southern Africa and employed more than 4,000.
“If we could go back to that, the unemployment
backlog would be addressed,” said Shasha.
Chris Hani District Municipality deputy mayor
Wongama Gela, who was standing in for mayor
Kholiswa Vimbayo, said a review of CHDA’s
mandate was crucial, but it did not mean it would
result in job losses for its present employees.
Interesting day for WAA
Last week, Anna van Niekerk of the
Dordrecht WAA arranged a day in
which each member had to pair up
with a local girl to set a tea table.
Some of the girls made their own
decorations, such as Charné Pautz,
who used recycled plastic to make
table flowers and a Christmas tree.
Janneke Smit did the judging, but
no winner was announced – i n st e a d ,
each girl received a gift pack of
President Lenie Fourie explained
what the WAA comprises and
in Lady Grey.
The WAA is primarily about
personal growth and offers members
opportunities for personal
Interesting monthly meetings are
held with lectures, demonstrations,
A team of four strapping young
in 2019, when usually there is a team
It was a three-day event, with the
first day being devoted to practise.
to help identify and resolve needs in
the community.
This is done through an annual
The competition over the next two
Nathan Lentz, while the other three
members of the team were from East
London, Grahamstown and Port
Training, feasibility report will help Ilinge weaving co-op
ANDISA BONANI
Members of the Nonkqubela Weaving
Co-operative in Ilinge received training
and a product feasibility report from the
Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and
Culture Council (ECPACC) to assist
them in monetising their products
according to market demands.
The week-long training saw a
Swaziland-based weaving company,
Khokho Collection, which already has
established markets countrywide and
internationally, assist the co-operative
to come up with ways to increase
production, while making new items
that are favourable to the market.
The co-operative took over from a
factory funded and run by the Eastern
Cape Development Corporation (ECDC)
until 2008, when women who worked
for the old factory were given an opportunity
to buy it and keep it operational.
ECPACC CEO Phumeza Skoti said the
main vision of the programme was to
introduce craft industrialisation which
entailed going back to areas where old
factories such as Nonkqubela emanated
from, and provide assistance to make
them become fully fledged and
o p e r at i o n a l .
“Our interest is to encourage people
to use their talents by producing
products with their hands. We need to
use our skills to generate revenue to
sustain ourselves and create
employment. We considered the fact
that the members of the co-operative
were quite old and we asked whether
they wanted to involve their children
and the youth of this area.”
Skoti said one of the challenges faced
by the women in Nonkqubela was that
it was difficult to produce according to
the demands of the market, which
meant they could not introduce new
markets to them because they were
swamped already.
“Another challenge is their age and
the production house that is not
conducive to operate as a factory.
E C PA C C ’s intervention was to bring a
partner from Swaziland, not because we
are undermining businesses in the
country, but we have seen their product
and it is based on weaving.
“It also has a rich history and
heritage which are important. They have
well established markets both in the
country and internationally and we want
to tap into those markets for the benefit
of the people of Ilinge.”
Nonkqubela co-operative member
Masisi Khanidsa said she had been
involved with the project since it started
in 1999.
She said the co-operative needed
young people to get involved because
they were old women who could not
keep up with what the market wanted
because of lack of skills.
“We are still making the same items
we were taught by the previous
company because we have not received
any training to upskill ourselves.
“We are still doing what we were
taught by the previous owners and we
need young people to come up with
new, innovative ideas.
“it is important for young people to
join this so that the project can
continue for years. The training shed
light on a lot of issues and will be of
massive assistance for us on how to
price our products.
“However, young people do not stay
with us for a long time because they
want money so when we are not
making any, we cannot retain those who
want to get involved.”
Members of the co-operative
recruited 20 young people from Ilinge to
benefit from the legacy of the project by
getting involved and learning how to
weave before the elderly women retired.
One of the beneficiaries, Mila
Mgedezi, said she saw a gap and got
interested when she heard about the
situation the co-operative was in from
one of the members.
“I decided to join and assist the
women with administrative work, such
as to source funding. I was the only
young person when I joined earlier this
year, but after this week’s training, I am
also thinking of learning about the
production side of things.”
Mgedezi said she saw the training as
an answer to the women who had been
struggling due to lack of knowledge
about many things involved in making
the business viable.
“The training opened our minds,
especially those of the young people
who have just joined the project.”

Plans out for 10th Chris Hani month
ANDISA BONANI
The Chris Hani District
Municipality has set
out a host of events to
celebrate the 10th Chris
Hani month to honour
the slain anti-apartheid
activist, with a series of
handovers and
memorial lectures.
CHDM deputy mayor
Wongama Gela said
during a press briefing
on Tuesday the
activities planned for
this month sought to
entrench the ideas of
the liberation stalwart,
while giving back to
the communities in his
h o n o u r.
The theme for this
Anniversary of death of slain anti-apartheid activist
year’s celebrations is
“Thuma Mina to create
pathways for
community and youth
empowerment towards
socio-economic
development”.
Gela said the
municipality believed
in the expression
“action speaks louder
than words” and
would, in the midst of
the celebrations, focus
on community
interaction, the
launching of projects,
service delivery
initiatives and the
promotion of local
economic
development.
“These celebrations
are incomplete if we do
not remind ourselves of
what Hani stood for,”
Gela said.
“Therefore our
celebrations will also
be characterised by
motivational and
memorial lectures.
“We believe through
these strides we will be
able to instill
knowledge to the Chris
Hani community and
especially young
people about the
liberation history.”
He said the
municipalit y’s relations
with Gauteng
province’s Ekurhuleni
Met ropolitan
Municipality created an
opportunity for a
delegation to visit the
municipality to join in
activities to
commemorate Hani’s
d e at h .
The celebrations
started yesterday with
a woolgrowers’ indaba,
which government
departments will be
part of.
The district
municipality handed
over 100 rams as part
of the livestock
improvement
programme to improve
wool production in the
district in Sakhisizwe
municipalit y.
Gela said on April 17
they would launch a
Heroes’ Park and an
unveiling of statues of
struggle heroes Walter
Sisulu and Dr Alfred
Xuma, in Ngcobo
municipality, and that
CHDM would assist in
the establishment of
the rural agroindustries
and financial
initiative (Rafi).
briefing to announce events for Chris Hani month Picture: ANDISA BONANI
14 municipalities in
province probed
ANDISA BONANI
Co-operative governance and
traditional affairs MEC Fikile Xasa has
indicated 14 municipalities in the
province were under forensic
investigation due to moral decay
resulting from corruption by people in
leadership positions.
Xasa was speaking at the Black
Management Forum executive debate
on ethical leadership at the Queens
Casino and Hotel on Wednesday.
He said people who wanted to do
good were held to ransom by
perpetrators of corrupt activities.
“The capturing of municipalities by
leadership is an actual thing.
“It has taken us a long time to have
municipalities investigated due to the
conniving ways of corrupt leaders and
public office bearers,” he said.
“We expect arrests to take place
immediately and not imminently as we
are usually told.”
The MEC said the people who were
stealing money from government
entities were willing to kill anyone
who got in their way, thus forcing
would-be whistle blowers to be scared
to do the right thing.
“We cannot be intimidated by
people who do not know our vision
and mission.
“You cannot be a leader who
displays luxury in the midst of poverty
and expect peace among the people.
“The thieves want unity while we
want renewal so as to root out all
corrupt elements, from local
government to national,” Xasa said.
“We will only unite with people who
understand our vision.
“If you are caught stealing you must
die alone so that the organisation you
represent is saved.
“Criminals must be minimised as
much as possible and those who have
their hands in the public purse must
be trembling.”
Xasa admitted the current
government had not done much to
eradicate corruption, but it was
FIKILE XASA
currently working to correct that error.
“Those who are involved in
corruption must know war will erupt
between perpetrators of crime and
ethical leaders, and victory will be
claimed by those who are willing to do
the right thing and report any
suspicious behaviour or instructions.”
Standard Bank executive manager
Lincoln Mali indicated during his
presentation that no organisation
would thrive if there was moral decay
from the man at the helm.
“People these days are obsessed
with titles and not the work.
“If we leaders have our faces to the
leaders and our backsides to the
people, then we have lost the plot,”
Mali said.
“We must strive for ethical
behaviour and not rely on our ability
to use our economic or political
muscle to escape accountability
through lengthy legal proceedings.
“We must aim for a maximum
standard of behaviour, not minimum.”
Mali said there were six aspects
which led to unethical behaviour –
excess privilege, moral decay, abuse
of power, misplaced loyalties,
irresponsible behaviour and deceit.
He said young leaders should ask
themselves how they were preparing
to resist the temptations, avoid
seduction and be mindful of the
pitfalls that awaited them.

in agony, and village residents
who rushed to the scene to
provide help, standing by helpless,
was agonising.
The accident took place around
3.30pm and an hour passed
before rescue services arrived at
the scene. The reaction times have
been worse.
But the fact is that people’s
lives were at further risk and
emergency services are there to
save lives. Even the response by
members of the police service was
far from swift.
When an ambulance finally
arrived, one would have been
relieved – after an hour of anxiety
and frustration.
But what followed was two
paramedics with their hands full
trying to tend to five seriously
injured people and save their lives.
The paramedics did their job
and ought to be lauded for doing
their work thoroughly. But they
simply had too much on their
p l at e .
One onlooker could not take it
anymore and volunteered his
services – put on a pair of gloves
and lent a hand. Soon more
onlookers and relatives jumped in
and did what they could.
It was not a pretty sight, but it
was necessary.
When a second ambulance
arrived, a lot of the work had been
done, thanks to the residents.
Of concern in the whole
situation was the risk of people
losing their lives because the
reaction time of rescuers was too
slow. Imagine an accident survivor
succumbing to injuries when they
could have been saved.
The Eastern Cape government
has long come under fire for
failing to provide the services the
rural communities deserve in
terms of their rights, enshrined in
the c o n st i t u t i o n .
Four years ago, the government
committed to solving problems in
the service.
This was after the South African
Human Rights Commission
released a report on its
investigation into these services in
the province.
The commission, at the time,
made certain recommendations to
which the government committed,
which involved purchasing more
ambulances, including 4x4
vehicles that would be able to
withstand the bad roads in
villages.
The government also committed
to provide training to staff in rural
areas, increase the budget for
EMS and have roads repaired.
That was four years ago and
judging by Tuesday’s incident,
clearly not much has been done.
The Eastern Cape government
needs to get its act together and
give its residents proper
emergency medical services to
save people’s lives and avoid a
situation where people lose their
lives because an ambulance took
too long to arrive.
Land theft or land thirst?
Have you noticed, as I have, the
mushrooming settlements all over
the place as you drive past the rural
hinterland? In whichever direction
you drive from Komani, unbridled
land occupation is taking place.
Last week in this newspaper there
was an article about land occupation
at Ndlovukazi where it appears there
is a free-for-all as certain individuals
are demarcating plots and handing
them out to all and sundry.
This week I even saw an advert
from a certain gentleman, whose
identity will not be revealed just yet,
on Facebook selling plots for R4,000.
Firstly, how did
this gentleman
get to own that
land and what
rights does he
have to resell it?
Obviously, he got
more than one
plot which is why he is in a position
to offer to sell them.
The question one has to ask is
who gave him the ownership of the
land in Ndlovukazi? How much did
he buy it for? While land thirst is
real, what can we do to stop land
speculators and profiteers from
exploiting the situation?
Ndlovukazi and other rural areas
are places where people practise
subsistence farming by tilling the
land and keeping livestock. Now
their livelihood is in increasing
danger as the available land for
grazing is diminishing by the day.
Last Sunday, I witnessed this land
expropriation happening in Sada just
near the Emadakeni area where
plots stretching as far as the eye can
see, were clearly marked.
Surely the government must
respond to the land thirst by the
people? The unbridled, uncontrolled
IN
TOUCH
... with Phumelele P Hlati
and wanton land invasions will, in
the long run, do more harm than
good. A stop of the unregulated land
appropriation has to be made and a
proper mechanism be put in place
so the land earmarked for building
houses and land designated for
farming be clearly demarcated.
Can the authorities rein in the
situation and take charge of it? Do
they have the wherewithal and even
the desire to do so before it is too
late? One of the reasons opposition
parties give for opposing
expropriation without compensation
and the amendment of Section 25 is
t h at
government is
sitting with
more than
4,000 farms
earmarked for
redist ribution.
S e c o n d l y,
most of the land available in SA is
owned by government, so why not
start by allocating this land to the
landless first, before embarking on
the Section 25 amendment?
At Ezibeleni when the community
started demarcating land and
allocating plots to themselves, the
Lukhanji Municipality stepped in
quickly and the process stalled. Fast
forward to today, a similar land
invasion in Sada and Ndlovukazi is
continuing unabated.
So, one may ask, what is the
d i f fe r e n c e ?
When asked last week, the Enoch
Mgijima Municipality gave this tepid
response, “The office of the speaker
and our human settlements
directorate have initiated an
investigation into the matter”.
While we wait for their seven days
to investigate and respond, land is
being invaded.
petrol. With petrol increasing
every month we don’t get an
increase in our salaries
monthly. We are paying more
for the same value.
Chumani Xelani
from Mlungisi
It is very costly. Everything
will go up now. Everything is
dependent on petrol, all
businesses. We can be sure
that food will soon follow.
Transportation is central for
everything. The taxi fare will
go up and we will just have
to pay more.
Question: What is your
occup ation?
Answer: I am a store manager at
Power Fashion.
Q: What do you enjoy about
customer service?
A: We are a low cost retailer
serving the less fortunate and it
prides me to be able to bring them
fashion at an affordable price.
Q: What do you do when you are
not working (hobbies)?
A: I have developed a love for
reading and I love cooking.
Q: Are you registered to vote?
Are you planning to vote?
A: Yes and yes!
Q: Are you feeling excited about
Baxter's Bafana Bafana?
A: Yes, I am. I am also sure many
other sport-loving fans out there
share the same enthusiasm. The
boys qualified for the upcoming
Afcon later this year and one
should commend the determination
they showed when they won
against Libya in an away game.
Q: What do you think is South
Africa's greatest sporting
moment?
are discouraged from voting,
this won’t help. People need
The petrol price increase
does not only affect
Cup final between the Boks and the
All Blacks is the country’s greatest
sporting moment. It united a
country that had, for a long time,
been divided by racial barriers.
Black and white stood together, all
singing S h o s h o l oz a as Francois
Pienaar and former President
Nelson Mandela lifted the Webb
Ellis Cup.
Q: What do you think the
government can do about local
sport development?
A: Grass roots development and
coaching clinics across the length
of the province need to be done.
These kids need to be groomed and
nur tured.
Q: What do you like about
Ko m a n i ?
A: I would reverse the question
and ask what do I not like about
Komani? It is sad to see how
Komani has become so
drug-infested. The ripple effects of
the spike in drug use have seen the
levels of robberies increase, to
name just one.
Q: Is there a place to go or thing
you would like to do before you
A: Travel to Europe.
motorists, it affects
passengers too. Taxi fares
will go up and will never
come down. Food also gets
really expensive.
Siyabulela Yantolo
from Mlungisi
It affects the prices of other
things like water and
electricit y.
The increase is shockingly
high this time. I hate it when
taxi drivers go to the petrol
station to fill up when I want
to get home. This petrol price
hike will make things worse.

KOMANIW E AT H E R
Typical autumn weather abounds, with
cool nights and early mornings and
balmy, warm days. In spite of the fact
that the rainy season is almost at an
end, some moisture is forecast for the
w e e ke n d .
Fr i d ay ’s forecast minimum and
maximum temperatures are just 7°C and
21° and it will be cloudy and cooler with
some drizzle during the day, possibly
resulting in light showers towards the
evening.
On Saturday, it will warm up to a
moderate 25°C and we can enjoy a
pleasant day with plenty of sunshine and
very little wind. The minimum
temperature will be a much warmer 12°C.
The maximum temperature on Sunday
will be much the same, after starting off
at 11°C. However, it will be mostly cloudy
and there is the possibility of an
afternoon thunderstorm, although it is
not expected to deliver much rainfall. –
Fire staff who don’t do jobs
Fed-up resident writes: This
week I needed to phone the
municipality. I lost count of
the number of times I called
(045) 807-2014 and the phone
just rang until it stopped – no
one answered, except twice,
when I asked for the traffic
depar tment.
Yo u ’ve guessed it – t h at
phone just rang until it
stopped and, in spite of many,
many attempts, I have still not
got through.
Madam mayor, the
telephonists at the main
municipal switchboard and
the traffic department should
be fired immediately. They are
simply not doing their jobs.
We do not have money to
pay people who are not doing
the work they were hired for
and if they do not want to do
it, hire someone who will do
the job properly.
We are told we do not have
money for essentials, such as
repairing potholes and traffic
lights ... nor do we have
money to give away to people
for doing nothing, so fire
them! There are hundreds
who would dearly love to be
given a job and who would do
it diligently and be glad to
have a job. Let those who just
want to sit, go and sit at
home, but we are not going to
pay them for sitting around
doing nothing.
Our municipality is
desperately in need of a
turnaround and here is a way
to start – only pay people
who actually WORK for the
money they are paid and stop
wasting precious and scarce
cash on those who just loaf
(or perhaps sleep) their way
through the day.
ROUND&ABOUT
CRACK SHOTS: Some of those who took part in the target shooting which formed part of the fund-raising events for the
Hilton Church get down to the business of taking careful aim
Picture: SUPPLIED
Festival fun – all
for a good cause
CHUX FOURIE
When it comes to raising funds for
their cause, the community of
Hilton and members of the Hilton
Methodist Church certainly know how to
do things differently – and they know that
people are always attracted to something
a little out of the ordinary.
Around autumn every year they host a
harvest festival, like many other churches
do, but their festival has a twist.
Not only do they decorate the church
with all the fruit, vegetables, farm
produce and home-created goods
donated by the congregation, they also
have a family braai and party and auction
all the things that have been donated.
The beautiful little church and
community centre nestled in the
mountains, along with the glorious
weather at this time of the year all add to
the ambiance and happy atmosphere that
consistently prevails on the day.
Hanrie Snelling convened the festival
this year and although the attendance
was a little lower than usual, (perhaps
this can be ascribed to the fact that it was
the first week of school holidays) it was a
great success.
Simon Beal Preston conducted the
service and Reg Morgan offered
communion, after which everyone had tea
and Simon, with help from Andrew
Breetzke, auctioned all the wonderful
fresh goodies donated by members of the
community. As usual, those attending
were very generous in their contributions
to the church, with people paying as
much as R1,000 for a cake.
In addition to the farm produce, there
were wonderful surprises to bid on such
as “winter care packs” consisting of bed
socks, a bean bag, Reg’s beeswax lip
balm, fleecy mittens and winter cream as
well as bunches of fresh roses and
lisianthus, fallow deer and impala hunts,
a tanned zebra skin, slaughter sheep,
warthog sausage and other meat,
cupcakes, fudge, soup and many other
exciting goodies – the imagination has no
limits.
But that is not where it all ends. Wayne
and Elmarie Shuman had also organised
another event which, although not on the
same day, was run for the same cause.
This involved shooting (a great way to
entertain people from a farming
background) and to make everything
legitimate, it was run in conjunction with
the Stormberg branch of the SA Hunters’
Association at the farm, Hilton, of Colin
Miles.
Wayne had three hunts of two animals
each donated by farmers, and contestants
had to enter in teams of two.
The teams then had to shoot
competitively at targets with a hand gun,
a shotgun, a .22 rifle, a large rifle and
clay pigeon shooting. The three winning
pairs then arrange with the donor farmer
to shoot their animals on a date
convenient to all concerned during
hunting season and each of the shottists
gets his buck.
This year 52 entered, with the entry fee
going to the church. All involved gathered
for a braai and socialised afterwards.
CHDM initiates clean-up programme
ZINTLE BOBELO
Chris Hani District
Municipalit y
(CHDM) recently
initiated a waste
management
programme in ward 5,
Ezibeleni.
According to CHDM
s p o ke s p e r s o n , Thobeka
Mqamelo, CHDM will
embark on waste
management activities
round the district, a
programme championed
by the health and
community services
d i r e c t o r at e .
“On learning that
illegal waste dumping in
municipalities is
growing
overwhelmingly, CHDM
initiated programmes to
clear and rehabilitate
illegal dumping sites to
support local
municipalities.
“The Ezibeleni site is
one of the areas that
were identified for
clearing and
r e h a b i l i t at i o n .”
Mqamelo said some
of the activities
undertaken on the site
involved the removal of
garbage with a front-end
loader and tipper truck
where they appointed
20 local residents for
further clearing and
establishment of a park.
“This was followed by
an awareness campaign
conducted behind
Bulelani Senior
Secondary and
Nokwanda Primary
Schools.
“Partnerships with the
community and schools
ensure internalisation of
our messages.
“The intention is to
instill understanding of
hazardous situations
that the environmentally
unfriendly activities can
cause, both to human
beings and animals.
“It is our hope that
such information will
result in behaviour
change and
appreciation of the
environment.”
She indicated that
participants who were
involved in the
awareness campaign
had pledged to take
care of the environment,
with the document
further stating, “I will do
my part to protect the
Earth. I will never litter. I
will always recycle. I will
reduce the waste I
create. I will reuse what
I can. I will conserve
energy and water. I will
encourage others to
conserve our natural
resources by reporting
their leaking water
pipes, overflowing
sewage etc. By doing
this I will be “making a
visible difference” in my
community, town and
South Africa.”
Ward 5 councillor
Andile Batyi said waste
was a major issue which
was discussed in
community meetings in
the area.
He said he was
impressed as residents
had not broken their
promise to keep the
sites clean after the visit
by the district
municipalit y.
“This shows that we
have a municipality that
cares for the people and
the environment in
which they live.”
Batyi said that the
programme started in
zone 3 and will soon
spread to other areas.
FIRE IN THE MALL: The King Pie outlet in the Nonesi Mall has closed due
Mall closes as pie shop catches fire
ANDISA BONANI
Nonesi Mall was filled with smoke on
Sunday afternoon after a mysterious
fire broke out in one of the stores,
resulting in the closure of the retail
facility for the remainder of the day.
The fire, which started inside King
Pie, resulted in the store’s equipment
burning, but there was no sight of fire
fighters until 30 minutes after they
were alerted to the incident.
The fire resulted in stores nearby
also closing in fear of the fire
spreading, while customers and
workers waited outside as the mall
entrance nearby was barricaded with
t rolleys.
Nonesi Mall manager Shaun Roux
Claims CFO misused money
ANDISA BONANI
Hawks acting provincial commander
Colonel Lungisani Ndzimande has
indicated through a letter to the
district municipality that CFO
Nomfundo Fetsha misused money
meant for the purchase of sports gear
and supporting an aviation
programme.
The letter, which has been seen by
The Rep, was addressed to the Chris
Hani District Municipality acting
municipal manager (MM) Yoliswa
Sinyanya, indicated the misused
amount of R100,000 was sponsored
by a company trading as Zana Manzi
Ser vices.
“As soon as the money was
deposited into the municipality’s
account, it was transferred to Mfuraa
Projects. During the investigation it
transpired the money was not used
for what it was intended. According to
witnesses, all programmes in the
municipality are budgeted for.
“The CFO failed to declare the
sponsorship, either online or in
writing. Mfundo Kwani, the director of
Mfuraa Projects, alleges the money
was paid to him for services rendered,
but during the investigation it
appeared the invoice was false,” said
immediately after the fire was noticed,
but arrived 30 minutes later.
“The fire was extinguished by staff
and the store’s sprinkler system.
“Fortunately, nobody was injured.
The fire did, however, produce a
significant amount of smoke.
“As a precaution, we asked
everyone to leave the mall until the
smoke was cleared and it was safe to
return.
“As soon as everything was clear,
we reopened the mall, but kept the
area around King Pie cordoned off.
“The mall opened and traded
normally the next morning.”
Roux thanked everyone who had
helped and the customers for their
p at i e n c e .
Ndzimande in the letter.
The Rep reported (“CHDM plans to
suspend its CFO”, March 29) that
CHDM CFO Fetsha was arrested for
misappropriating an amount totalling
R100,000 and appeared in the Port
Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court
on March 4 on charges of fraud and
corruption with local businessman
Mfundo Kwani.
Acting CHDM MM Sinyanya said
the district municipality convened a
special council meeting last Friday to
deliberate on a report of alleged
misconduct of its CFO, who was
subsequently charged with
allegations of fraud and corruption
earlier this month.
“Council views the allegations in a
very serious light, especially given the
responsibilities attached to her
position and, as such, internal
processes to investigate the matter
will ensue.
“We can thus confirm the CFO has
been served with a letter notifying her
of council’s intention to suspend her,
pending investigations into the
alleged misconduct. In line with the
set local government disciplinary
regulations for senior managers, the
CFO is given an opportunity to
respond as guided by it.”

ABONGILE SOLUNDWANA
Ezibeleni community members
are unhappy with the power
block implemented by Enoch
Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM)
in their residential areas recently.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)
Xolani Ngxathu said a large number
of those who had been blocked from
using electricity were from ward 7.
They approached the EFF for
assistance because they had
unanswered questions concerning
the implementation of the indigent
s y st e m .
Ngxathu said the residents went to
the EFF after their ward councillors
failed to address the problem.
“The residents are questioning
Traffic officers on Komani’s streets
ANDISA BONANI
Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality
(EMLM) traffic officers have been
checking vehicle driver’s licences and
on Tuesday, removing hawkers who
illegally put up stalls in Cathcart
Road.
The visibility of officers began last
week when they were randomly
stopping cars to check their
roadworthiness and whether the
drivers were eligible to be behind the
wheel.
This week, officers were cleaning
out the CBD, removing hawkers who
had illegal stalls and those whose
permits had expired.
One of the hawkers near a petrol
station, Boniwe Mapeyi, said two
female traffic officers took all her fruit
and a bucket of cooked corn which
she would sell to feed her family.
“I have been selling fruit here for
almost 20 years and they just came
and took everything I had worked
hard for.
“When we asked what they were
doing, we were told we must move
because people were being mugged
there.
“We were not even given an
eviction notice. I do not know what I
whether the system is operating
effectively because after paying their
accounts, their debts escalate. EMLM
does not apply proper meter reading
but estimates electricity use in
Ezibeleni, which makes residents
doubt the accuracy of the
approximations. These estimations
are either above the actual amount
or below it.”
He said the lack of communication
between the residents and the
municipality brought frustration to
the residents.
“The municipality has councillors
who do not call ward meetings and
then are unhappy when community
members take a stand and call their
own public meetings.”
EFF MP Zolile Xalisa said, “The
CLEAN UP: Traffic officers were scene seizing items belonging to a
hardware store which had been put on the pavement outside the store
Picture: ANDISA BONANI
will do because I use the money from
my stall to educate my children and
feed my family.”
A sobbing Mapeyi said she and
other hawkers were told at the
municipal offices their items had been
thrown away.
Hawker Noluthando Nkibitsholo,
who has a stall near the Lukhanji Mall,
said the officers took items from her
on Monday as her stall was erected
where it was not supposed to be.
“I do not know what to do. I have no
money for the merchandise they took.
“We do this to feed our families as
there are no jobs and the municipality
is trying to destroy our efforts.
“There are no other areas where we
policy states that when a person’s
electricity supply has been blocked
they should pay 10% of the amount
they owe for the power to be
reconnected. After that a customer
makes an arrangement on how they
will pay the outstanding balance.
“However, EMLM has not been
using that approach. If a person
owes R2,000 the municipality
requires the amount be paid in full.”
“We understand that since EMLM
owes Eskom they want to cover their
debt at the expense of the poor and
the ward councillors’ failure to
communicate with residents is a
crisis.”
EMLM acting spokesman Butsha
Lali said EMLM was an electricity
provider and should provide
can put up our stalls in the CBD.”
EMLM manager in the office of the
mayor, Butsha Lali, said the local
authority had by-laws which governed
and restricted the areas where stalls
in town could be, and permits were
obtainable from the municipal offices.
“Our law enforcement section
(which is responsible for public
safety) has officers available for
whenever notices have been sent to
those who are contravening the laws.
“A certain period after the notices
have been sent, evictions and
confiscation of items take place.
“This is a continual activity of the
law. We even go to the extent of
interacting with Small, Medium and
responsible administration of that
basic service to the community.
“We are administering an indigent
register and call upon community
members who fall within that bracket
to be enrolled.
“In other words the claims made
by the EFF are not factual.”
“We are experiencing challenges
with non-payment, defaulting,
tampering and theft of electricity
across Enoch Mgijima in private
households and businesses.
“There are ongoing measures to
curb and deter consumers from
these illegal practices. Part of the
measures involve blocking in the
case of defaulting and disconnection
in instances of tampering or theft.”
Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) to find a
way to mitigate on whatever their
circumstances are so that ultimately
people are allocated areas in which
stalls can be put up in town.”
Lali said the confiscated items were
kept at the municipal public safety
storage offices for a certain period, in
which owners are supposed to reclaim
their goods and pay a fine, the
amount of which is determined by the
kind of items and the quantity thereof.
“The last time we conducted this
exercise was in December.
“We even interacted with
organisations the hawkers are
affiliated with, to give them notices as
a means to minimise the
contravention of the law.
“They get a seven-day notice, which
is merely to alert them that raids and
eviction may happen any day.
“Most hawkers have renewable
permits and know where they cannot
put up stalls.”
Lali indicated that those who
claimed not to have been notified
about the evictions would have to be
dealt with as specific cases and that
hawkers needed to understand the
notices did not indicate when
evictions would take place, but only
gave a warning.

Get RCC before you sell
How to get your Rates
Clearance Certificate
When selling your
property, it is necessary
to get a Rates Clearance
Certificate (RCC) from
the relevant local
authority before transfer
can take place.
This document
certifies that there are
no outstanding rates
due on the property on
the seller’s account.
Below, law firm
Abrahams & Gross has
outlined who needs to
apply for this certificate,
who is responsible for
paying for it and how
long it is valid for.
Why is a rates
clearance certificate
necessar y?
The RCC obtained
from the City Council
certifies that the seller
does not owe any
money to the
municipality for the two
MORNÉ DU PLESSIS
083 373 6679
year period preceding
the date of application
for the RCC.
Whose responsibility
is it to obtain a rates
clearance certificate?
The conveyancer
requests the rates
clearance figures from
City Council. The figures
are determined by the
City Council and not the
conveyancer. It is the
seller’s responsibility to
settle amounts due in
order to obtain the RCC.
The seller must pay the
conveyancer who will
then pay the City
Council as they require
rates figures to be paid
with a trust cheque. The
RCC must be obtained
and paid for before the
lodging of transfer
documents in the Deeds
Office.
Why must the seller
pay in advance?
WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU TO QUEEN’S COLLEGE
Mahlutshana has eyes for
Miss Tertiary SA crown
Queen’s coach has the
whole country abuzz
NTSIKELELO QOYO
Queen’s College and Queen’s
Junior rugby coach Sesethu Time
has become a new viral
sensation for speeches that
resonated way further than the
locker room.
The rugby coach’s speeches
were so good that his boys
started making videos of him.
After being picked up online, it
inspired a group of young men in
KwaZulu-Natal to make their own
video in which they quoted one
of his lines.
In the video, the three walk
into Woolworths to buy water.
After they drink the water they
start speaking with “proper”
accents and “improved”
vocabulary. This is while alluding
to the water being the source of
their new-found eloquence.
By the end of the video they
quote Time saying, “Keep it
going, keep it flowing like the
wat e r. ”
The video caught on and has
since spawned the Woolies water
challenge with participants
acting out different ways the
ZINTLE BOBELO
Lona Mahlutshana from Komani has
made it to the top 100 in the Miss
Tertiary SA 2019 contest.
Mahlutshana, who is a second
year student studying industrial
psychology at the University of the
Western Cape, said she had always
dreamt of having her own modelling
agency and was working towards
making that dream a reality.
She said the pageant was founded
by Lungako Magida whose aim was
to respond to the Fees Must Fall
movement which “highlighted the
heightening number of financially
excluded students in tertiary
institutions nationwide” t h e r e fo r e
giving opportunity for students to be
awarded scholarships.
“Miss Tertiary SA focuses on
beauty, yes, but most importantly on
making a difference in people’s
e d u c at i o n .
“The winner and the first and
second princess get scholarships for
a year and cash prizes,” she said.
water is making them “chic”.
How the slogan came about is
the story of every inspired
moment in history. “It was just a
normal day. My boys had left
their training clothes at home. I
told them to just sing. They had
taken a liking to my mini
pre-game speeches, so we were
just having fun.
“The line wasn’t a thing back
then, it just happened. When
they told me a video was
trending I wasn’t even on Twitter
at the time. I went online and
people have been showing love
ever since,” he said.
After the buzz of the past
weeks, Time was invited to Cape
Town to meet Woolworths about
the use of the slogan.
“They called me to express
appreciation and acknowledge
the slogan. The exposure was
very good for their brand,” he
said.
Time said his speeches are an
attempt at a different approach
to coaching.
“Times have changed. We
can’t approach discipline on the
field the same way we used to.
In 2017, during her matric year,
Mahlutshana became first princess
in a Miss Schools Queenstown
competition.
“I loved that pageant. That’s when
I knew that I loved modelling
because I was so comfortable on
st a g e .
“Out of my love for beauty
pageants and modelling, I decided to
enter Miss Tertiary SA 2019.
“Winning the competition would
mean a lot to me as I would no
longer have financial constraints.
“Most importantly I would be a
step closer to my dream. I will also
continue to be a helping hand to the
community, with whatever I have.”
She said the fear of not achieving
her goals was what motivated her to
keep pushing.
“My mother is my biggest
inspiration. The struggles that she
has gone through show me that she
is indeed a strong woman.”
To vote for Mahlutshana text
“MTSA Lona” to 40439. Each vote
costs R2 and votes are not limited.
“I try to keep the boys
motivated using positive
reinforcement. It goes a long
way. I want to inspire them to do
better every time they go on to
the field for the school and
themselves, make it a fun
experience,” he said.
It seems those efforts are
translating into solid
performances with Queen’s
Junior winning this year’s
Stutterheim rugby challenge.
Time has been coaching
Queen’s rugby since the
beginning of the year.
Parkrunners awarded
Last Saturday, 168 people ran,
jogged or walked the course of
the Komani parkrun around the
fairways of the Queenstown Golf
Club in weather conditions that
can only be described as
absolutely perfect.
Newcomers arrive every week
and this time there were seven
first-timers, while 25 regulars
recorded personal best times.
Kyle Hoffmann received his
Junior Club 10 certificate in
recognition of having completed
10 parkruns and three members,
Alida Jekels, Innocent Kazimbe,
Danette Grobler and Henry
Ruiters, must be congratulated on
having completed 50 parkruns.
There were a number of
Good day for Gudmanz Racing
The second round of
the Border regional
motor racing
championships was
held at the grand prix
track on the West Bank
in East London recently
and the great weather
conditions were
conducive to some
entertaining racing.
As always, there was
much action with some
epic dices and a few
“of f s ” but that is all part
of competitive racing.
In the Historics class
A, Darron Gudmanz was
placed first in a time of
1:29.087, only three
thousandths of a
second slower than his
personal best.
Alec Gudmanz took
the honours in Historics
class B with a personal
best time of 1:38.379
and keeping the names
of Gudmanz Racing and
Komani in the limelight,
Matthew Gudmanz was
first in Historics class C,
also recording a
personal best time of
1:42.522.
The team thanked
Sovereign Foods
Country Range Chicken,
their main sponsor, and
Carconnexion who
sponsored the pace car.
GOOD FOR THE GUDMANZ: Three members of Komani’s Gudmanz Racing
team each won their category at the motor racing in East London. They
SEAN HEIDEMANN
Last Saturday, the second round of the
Windhoek pairs betterball Stableford was
played at the Queenstown Golf Club where the
course was really playing exceptionally long
and certainly punished any wayward shots.
A relatively small field entered and the
winners were Wayne Bennett and Sean
Heidemann on 45 points, winning the count-out
from Richard Miles and Shane Baillie, also on
45 points.
Two clubs were achieved by Cor Oosthuizen
on the 5th, Richard Miles and Tim Brittain on
the 8th, Wayne Bennett on the 11th and Garry
Brown on the 16th.
The dates for numerous big golf days dates
are being finalised and will be made known
from next week, so please watch this space.
Please also keep an eye out for the Friday
night food evenings that will be taking place.
Members will be sent WhatsApp messages and
the events will be advertised.
OC beat Breakers in thrilling clash
converted by Mbusi and
the lead changed hands
again with Breakers
leading 15-10. Craig Pijoos
reminded everyone why
he is still regarded as one
of the best wings by
scoring his first try as OC
led 17-15.
It was short-lived,
though, as Hlela Mbasana
bulldozed his way through
for Breakers’ third try,
with the conversion
successful and the
Mlungisi side regained
the lead at 22-17. Mbusi
had the final say in the
half by slotting another
penalty as the visitors led
25-17 at half time.
There was a
momentous effort from
Collegians in the second
stanza. Usually Breakers
up the tempo through
their bench, but it was the
host who looked more
energised and hungry.
The coach and two girls
The school is very proud
of all these achievers.
games. The introduction
of Colin Kemp to
physically dominate the
breakdown and soften the
opposition paid off. It was
no surprise when OC
received a penalty, which
was coolly slotted over by
Fields as OC reduced the
deficit to five points.
Fields was successful
with another penalty as
B r e a ke r s ’ discipline
started to let them down
and it was a tight
two-point game with
Breakers leading 25-23.
Mbusi restored some
parity with a penalty for
Breakers as they
increased the lead to
28-23.
At this stage, it was
anyone’s game with the
tension on a knife edge.
Kemp received a yellow
card with a trademark
stiff arm tackle on an
opposition player, but with
14 men OC hit back with a
second try by Pijoos
which was converted as
OC led for the first time in
the second half at 30-28.
Last weekend, SAB league teams which had
postponed games played catch up in Sada as
the close of the season and the playoffs
approach.
In competition were two of the stream B
favourites to top the table, Amathole who had a
game outstanding and Valgas which had two.
At the bottom, MK stars took on Difra Stars.
In their first game, played on Saturday,
Amathole bounced back from their shock
defeat to Holy Kings the week before to win 3-2
against MK Academy.
The Amathole goals came from Asanda
Marwarwa who netted two and their top scorer
Thabiso Ningiza, who now has seven goals for
the season. Sakhele Sichaza and Siphosethu
Mkhwane scored for MK Stars.
On Sunday the big game pitted the two top
contenders, Amathole against Valgas; both of
whom are vying for top spot. The game could
prove consequential for all three teams in
contention for the top place. It did not live up
to expectations as they drew, leaving Seven
Stars the real winners of the weekend. The
solitary goal for each team came from
Siphelele Bezu for Valgas and Ningiza for
Amathole. The finale score was 1-1.
At the top there was not much movement.
Seven Stars are still at number one, waiting for
their last game with 30 points. Amathole are
now also at 30 points with one game left. The
teams are drawn on goal difference. The dark
horse is Valgas who are at three with 28
points, but have two games to play.
At the bottom of the league, MK Academy
took on Difra Stars in their second game of the
weekend. They dispatched the struggling Difra
1-0, the goal coming from Mkhwane. Difra are
at the bottom with 7 points, trailing
Grootfontein who have 8.
The relegation favourites each have two
games left and look unlikely to knock Komani
Stars, who have 12 points, from their perch,
also with two games left to play. Difra Stars are
9th, Grootfontein 8th and Komani Stars 7th.

Old Collegians beat Breakers in Twizza Cup thriller
MAXWELL LEVINE
Ecstasy, euphoria, drama, excitement,
disappointment and thrill-a-minute action
were the order of the day in the highlycharged
and highly-anticipated derby clash
between bitter rivals Old Collegians and
Breakers at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sports
Centre on Saturday.
You could not have written the script any
better and the 33-31 win for Collegians must
go down in history as the best derby ever.
There was high-octane drama on and off
the field with the thousands of spectators
treated to a spectacular match by two of the
biggest teams in Komani.
It was also the first match B r e a ke r s ’ new
coaching staff of Edwin Ngculu, Phumi Hlati
and Zola Yibe had been in charge.
This high scoring match had everything –
tries, hard hits, emotions – and it took a
last-minute penalty from man-of-the-match
Brandt Fields to clinch it for OC with time
virtually over on the clock.
It was a special day for Komani rugby and
those who were fortunate to witness it will
agree that matches of this magnitude come
once in a lifetime. Six tries were scored, with
each team dotting down three times in this
closely-contested tie. Both fullbacks were on
song with the boot, with Fields scoring 18
points for OC and Nkunku Mbusi converting
17 points for Breakers.
The match truly lived up to the pre-match
hype with action swinging from end to end.
Breakers opened the scoring through
flanker Nyameko Maso. The conversion was
missed by Mbusi and Breakers took a 5-0
lead. OC rallied and hit back through a
penalty by Fields to cut the deficit to two
QBBC celebrates
points at 5-3. Mbusi converted his first points
for Breakers with a trademark kick and
Collegians came to play and it showed by
competing in all departments. The acquisition
of flyhalf Merlin du Plessis, scrumhalf Unathi
Kongwana, eighthman Peter Frans and
flanker Jason Potgieter proved to be a
masterstroke as all of them were very
influential in OC reliance. Darren Williams
always looked dangerous in the midfield and
it came as no surprise when he sliced
through the Breakers’ midfield to score.
Sisonke Boxing Club from East
London took the overall club
title at the Queenstown Boys
Boxing Club (QBBC) tournament
held at the Thobi Kula Indoor
Sports Centre on Saturday.
The tournament, which
celebrated the QBBC’s 101-year
anniversary, saw 11 invited clubs,
including Thubalethu Boxing Club
from Uitenhage, Sisonke and
Eyethu BC from East London,
Mfuzo BC from Grahamstown,
Barkly East BC, Somerset East BC,
Engcobo BC, Nkwenkwana BC,
Wanda BC, Banda BC, Tambo and
QBBC, compete for the best club
title.
QBBC manager Mabuti Mapeyi
said the club was formed on
March 13 1918 by veterans in
Mlungisi to serve as a form of
enter tainment.
“Rugby was the most popular
sport back then and a new angle
was then formed by introducing
boxing. The veterans formed
another club called the
International Boxing Club in
Duncan Village, East London,
making it the only club to
compete with QBBC.” According
to Mapeyi, a number of people
started contributing to the sport
around 1960.
“I have decided to keep the
history of this sport with this new
generation. A lot of these veterans
have since passed on, but I am
still continuing the legacy.
“The support from the
community has been exceptional
and I am now collecting old
documents as I am working
together with the Queenstown and
Frontier Museum to have this
information displayed.”
Mapeyi said Saturday’s
tournament had 40 bouts in four
categories with elite boxers
dominating the list.
He indicated that an intense
bout between Bongiwe Colani
from Uitenhage and Tapelo Bokwe
of Modern Boxing Club in
Somerset East grabbed the
attention of the spectators as both
females were national and
provincial champions.
Lukhanyo Matiso was
announced best male boxer and
Simthembile Flente of Sisonke
Boxing Club was the boxer of the
tournament.
Gold and silver medals were
presented to both the losers and
winners in each bout.
National champion Colani, 23,
said she joined the world of
boxing in 2009 and fell in love
with the sport.
“I started fighting in 2011 and in
2017 I came back with a silver
medal from a tournament in
Angola. In 2018, I boxed in
Mozambique where I was awarded
a silver medal and received an
award for best female bout.
“I recently came back from a
fight in Pretoria with a silver
medal.”
Mapeyi said the event, which
was made possible by the Eastern
Cape Sports Academy, was a
build-up tournament with plans to
host another big event later in
2019 in the pipeline.
“We are hoping to gather all
veteran boxers in one room and
honour those who have passed
away by inviting their families to
remember the role played by them
in the history of boxing.”
